Granny Shocked By Police Stun Gun In Bed Sues

OKLAHOMA CITY — An 87-year-old grandmother subdued by police with a stun gun while she was lying in bed hooked up to an oxygen machine is suing her Oklahoma hometown.

Attorney Brian Dell said Tuesday that he filed the lawsuit June 21 on behalf of his client, Lona Varner. He did not specify the amount she's seeking from the city of El Reno but said it's at least $75,000.

Varner's grandson called 911 on Dec. 22 and told the dispatcher his grandmother "wanted to end her life" and that he was concerned she had taken some unknown medicine.

Officer Thomas Duran says in a police report that Varner pulled a kitchen knife from under her pillow and threatened to stab and kill him if he tried to take her from her home.

The report says another officer used a stun gun on Varner.

So the next time someone is at the edge of a building or bridge and the cop comes up to talk them out of ending their life, I guess he will just decide to pull the stun gun out and hope he falls in the right area. Thats rediculous

It's pretty sad when two cops couldn't get a kitchen knife away from a 87 yo. woman without using a stun gun.

Wow... It's very obvious ya'll don't wear a uniform... A stun gun was generous considering you don't bring a knife to a gun fight. If you know anything about someone with a knife (even if she's 87 years old) you'd know ONE correctly placed slice will end your life... no thanks, she should be happy that she aint dead.

Maybe people like you shouldn't wear a uniform.

Last 87 year old I saw could be subdued by a one armed paper hanger.

You justifying that amount of force on a decrepit old lady illustrates quite accurately how far our society has fallen.
