No one in the world will believe that Israel attacked ships in international waters carrying Israeli citizens, a Nobel Laureate, elected politicians, and noted humanitarians bringing medicines and building materials to Palestinians in Gaza, who have been living in the rubble of their homes without repairs or medicines since January 2009, without first clearing the crime with its American protector. Without America’s protection, Israel, a totally artificial state, could not exist. No one in the world will believe that America’s spy apparatus did not detect the movement of the Israeli attack force toward the aid ships in international waters in an act of piracy, killing 20, wounding 50, and kidnapping the rest. Obama’s pretense at ignorance confirms his complicity.
Once again the US government has permitted the Israeli state to murder good people known for their moral conscience. The Israeli state has declared that anyone with a moral conscience is an enemy of Israel, and every American president except Eisenhower and Carter has agreed.
Obama’s 12-hour silence in the face of extreme barbarity is his signal to the controlled corporate media to remain on the sidelines until Israeli propaganda sets the story.
The Israeli story, preposterous as always, is that the humanitarians on one of the ships took two pistols from Israeli commandos, highly trained troops armed with automatic weapons, and fired on the attack force. The Israeli government claims that the commandos’ response (70 casualties at last reporting) was justified self-defense. Israel was innocent. Israel did not do anything except drop commandos aboard from helicopters in order to intercept an arms shipment to Gazans being brought in by ships manned by terrorists.
Many Christian evangelicals, brainwashed by their pastors that it is God’s will for Americans to protect Israel, will believe the Israeli story, especially when it is unlikely they will ever hear any other. Conservative Americans, especially on Memorial Day when they are celebrating feats of American arms, will admire Israel for its toughness. Here in north Georgia where I am at the moment, I have heard several say, admiringly, “Them, Israelis, they don’t put up with nuthin.”

I may point out that the main boat targeted had an Israeli Parlamint member aboard it and she has stated that the boats were unarmed and that the Israeli Navy fired upon them 5 mins before any contact was made. I have been saying for years that Israel is one of the biggest terrorist organizations out there, and i feel sick that we support them so steadfastly. How would we feel if Canada came down and seperated our families with walls and told us we were no longer allowed to see each other or communicate? It's an EMBARGO designed to stop shipments of weapons....The Israeli military told them to divert to another port or allow inspection. They refused to do either...In this case, it is not a matter of Arab or Israeli politics, but a matter of violating, openly and agressively, an embargo. When you challenge an embargo that is enforced by a committed military, you must accept the possibility of an armed response, just as the Russians did during the Cuban Missle Crisis. They chose NOT to challenge the United States (smart move)....the people who challenged Israel's committment to this embargo were apparently not that smart. All they had to do was say "yes, come aboard and inspect...all we have is humanitarian aid". Instead they wanted a fight. When you look for trouble, don't complain when you find it....and by the way, if they would stop launching rockets, the embargo would, very likely, go away.

"In May 1968, the Israeli government paid US$3,323,500 as full payment to the families of the 34 men killed in the attack. In March 1969, Israel paid a further $3,566,457 in compensation to the men who had been wounded. Should Israel have apologized to families for the mistake. I think they should have done so and asked forgiveness from the families. But Governments rarely apologize. We are just getting around to apologizing for slavery, and slavery was very intentional and approved by our government.
The Liberty tragedy sounds like a case of mistaken identity, friendly fire to me! It's very, very unfortunate that a friendly fire mistake killed Americans. But they were in the military and in the middle of a hot war that came very close to going nuclear. I can understand the bitterness of family, but wartime accidents happen. I'm sure those on the Liberty understood and accepted that they were in a very dangerous arena.

After the war erupted, due to concerns about her safety as she approached her patrol area, several messages were sent to Liberty to increase her allowable closest point of approach (CPA) to Egypt's and Israel's coasts from 12.5 nmi (14.4 mi; 23.2 km) and 6.5 nmi (7.5 mi; 12.0 km), respectively, to 20 nmi (23 mi; 37 km) and 15 nmi (17 mi; 28 km), and then later to 100 nmi (120 mi; 190 km) for both countries. Unfortunately, due to ineffective message handling and routing, the CPA change messages were not received until after the attack.
According to Israeli sources, at the start of the war on June 5, General Yitzhak Rabin (then IDF Chief of Staff) informed Commander Ernest Carl Castle, the American Naval Attaché in Tel Aviv, that Israel would defend its coast with every means at its disposal, including sinking unidentified ships.
