Meanwhile, Down At The Border

The Department of Homeland Security is alerting Texas authorities to be on the lookout for a suspected member of the Somalia-based Al Shabaab terrorist group who might be attempting to travel to the U.S. through Mexico, a security expert who has seen the memo tells FOXNews.com.

The warning follows an indictment unsealed this month in Texas federal court that accuses a Somali man in Texas of running a “large-scale smuggling enterprise” responsible for bringing hundreds of Somalis from Brazil through South America and eventually across the Mexican border. Many of the illegal immigrants, who court records say were given fake IDs, are alleged to have ties to other now-defunct Somalian terror organizations that have merged with active organizations like Al Shabaab, al-Barakat and Al-Ittihad Al-Islami.

The DHS alert was issued to police and sheriff’s deputies in Houston, asking them to keep their eyes open for a Somali man named Mohamed Ali who is believed to be in Mexico preparing to make the illegal crossing into Texas. Officials believe Ali has ties to Al Shabaab, a Somali terrorist organization aligned with Al Qaeda.

But Of Course, Nobody Will Try To Stop Him...

US National Guard troops being sent to the Mexican border will be used to stem the flow of guns and drugs across the frontier and not to enforce US immigration laws, the State Department said Wednesday.

The clarification came after the Mexican government urged Washington not to use the additional troops to go after illegal immigrants.

President Barack Obama on Tuesday authorized the deployment of up to 1,200 additional troops to border areas but State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters, "It's not about immigration."

He said the move was "fully consistent with our efforts to do our part to stem, you know, violence, to interdict the flow of dangerous people and dangerous goods -- drugs, guns, people."

He said the extra troops would be used to free up civilians engaged in support functions so that law enforcement personnel can be increased along the 2,000-mile-long (3,200 kilometer) border.

And While The Troops Sit At Desk Jobs, Life Goes On...

The Mexican government has announced it respects the Obama administration's decision to send 1,200 National Guard troops to the U.S. southern border to counter cross-border drug and weapons trafficking – just as long as the troops don't enforce U.S. immigration laws. The Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C., released the following statement on May 25:

"Regarding the administration's decision to send 1,200 National Guard servicemen to the U.S. Southern border, the government of Mexico trusts that this decision will help to channel additional U.S. resources to enhance efforts to prevent the illegal flows of weapons and bulk cash into Mexico, which provide organized crime with its firepower and its ability to corrupt.

"Additionally, the government of Mexico expects that National Guard personnel will strengthen U.S. operations in the fight against transnational organized crime that operates on both sides of our common border and that it will not, in accordance to its legal obligations, conduct activities directly linked to the enforcement of immigration laws.

"Arizona border residents told Fox News today that Obama's wavering immigration policy is only making things worse."

Every time our president talks to the Mexican president, or every time the word amnesty comes over the Mexican news, there is a flood of people," said one unnamed resident who feared retaliation.

The residents said troops won't deter illegal aliens and drug smugglers."There's guys out here with no guns, and they're our troops," she said. "The Mexicans think we're nuts."

Although I can't say for sure, based on my prior military service, I'm willing to bet ---- the 1200 National Guard troops may have rifles, but they are surely not carrying ANY ammunition. The officers may have loaded sidearms, but the troops are not trusted with live ammo --- they may actually shoot a Mexican drug smuggler or a illegal immigrant and you can imagine the outcry from every Democrat, liberal, and foreign leader if THAT happens. Forget the hundreds of shootings, murders, rapes, and kidnappings done by illegal immigrants against US CITIZENS. Oh no, don't you fret over those things....or the high speed police chases, assaults on our police, drug smuggling and gangs (there are some areas in our cities where the police won't even go because the Mexican gangs have made it clear what will happen if they show up). Just PLEASE don't hurt any of the illegal immigrants. It will not be long before we get a report of one or more National Guard troops killed by a criminal because the troops can't defend themselves (unless they find a big rock to throw at someone firing a automatic rifle at 'em)... Our government is (as usual) playing games with our citizens lives and security....
