DART Celebrates 20 Years Of Resort Transit Service

DART Kicks Off 2010 Season Today

Rehoboth Beach
-- Delaware Transit Corporation Executive Director Stephen Kingsberry joined numerous area officials and dignitaries to officially recognize the start of the summer 2010 resort transit season today. DART's Resort Transit Service provides a transportation solution for those who want to go to the beach without the headaches and stress of driving their own vehicle, while also easing traffic and parking issues in Delaware's coastal beach communities. Last year, DART provided more than 329,000 passenger trips and transported over 3,000 bikes.

"Summer is about slowing down and relaxation, not worrying about traffic," said Stephen Kingsberry, Executive Director of the Delaware Transit Corporation. "For less than the cost of a gallon of gasoline, $2.10, you can purchase an All-Day Pass that gives you unlimited trips to the boardwalk, the outlets, and even Ocean City."

DART First State operates its Resort Transit Service on seven transit routes in the resort area serving Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Ruddertowne, Bethany Beach, Fenwick, Lewes, Georgetown, Long Neck, and Ocean City, Maryland. The service operates seven days a week through Sunday, September 19. All DART buses are air-conditioned, ADA accessible and equipped with bike racks. Today, DART is also launching 11 new buses into service for Resort Transit. By the height of the season Resort Transit will have a total of 22 new buses operating.

Visitors are encouraged to use DART's Park & Ride lot located just off of Route 1 on Shuttle Road, just north of the entrance to Rehoboth Avenue. Parking rates are $7 per car per day and everyone in the car receives a free daily pass. For customers not using the Park & Ride, a daily pass can be purchased for $2.10.

DART will also be offering its Route 305 - Beach Connection with service between Wilmington and Rehoboth on modern, comfortable motor coaches. Stops include Rodney Square, Wilmington Amtrak Station, Christiana Mall, Smyrna Rest Stop, Scarborough Road Park & Ride in Dover, Milford Super Wal-Mart, and the Rehoboth Park & Ride.

The Route 305 Beach Connection operates Friday evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays through Labor Day. The comfortable motor coaches offer 45 seats, two wheelchair positions along with under coach storage compartments for beach gear and luggage. The fares for Route 305 Beach Connection are $7.50 per one-way trip from Wilmington and $4.50 from Dover. Passengers are encouraged to purchase an "Anywhere Pass" for $9.45, which is a daily pass valid on Route 305 and all of the Resort Transit routes.

Joe,
?-Going back to the begining of the BP oil spill didn't I hear Obama say "this spill is BP's problem" or something to that effect. I've tried to look it up on Snopes and other sites. It's amazing how now the Prez. claims he's been on top of the situation since day one. Any help on finding that quote? Thanks, JD
