Free Fishing Derby on June 5 at Salisbury City Park
(Salisbury, MD) Cast your rod at Salisbury City Park on Saturday, June 5 during the Annual Youth Fishing Derby. This free event is open to children 15 and under. Registration will begin at 8:30am (advanced registration is not necessary), and fishing starts promptly at 9:00am. Each child must bring their own rod and bait. Several catch and release contests are planned. Prizes and trophies will be awarded for the biggest fish, most fish caught, youngest angler, most unusual catch and more.
As an added component, children participating may qualify for a unique category and win a guided fishing trip sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Last year 12 children throughout the state won trips donated by Maryland charter boat captains, which are currently being scheduled and will take place throughout the summer.
In preparation for the Derby, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will help stock the pond at Salisbury City Park. Approximately 500 Blue Gills will join the pond’s current inhabitants including Catfish, Large-Mouth Bass, Perch and Carp.

Don't forget to add eels to the list of current inhabitants of the City Park. Within the last month, I observed two boys catch one about 18" long off the bridge in front of the bandstand.
More signs of the economic times. Only adding blue gill this year and not providing bait which they have done in years past. Wonder if they are still giving T-shirts and offering hot dogs?
Have fun kids! Adults please remember this is supposed to be for the kids, not for you!

back in the day. 60's. you didn't get a t-shirt, hot dog , etc. you showed up hoping to catch a fish, period.. with your own bait. only thing offered were some long bamboo poles with a piece of fishing line and hook on the end.
no one complained.
and your complaining because they don't get the freebies. we were happy as kids just to go. it was fun. and alot more crowded then also.
all to spoiled now.
If.... (thats a big if) you can make your way through the wild unkempt city park to the waters edge....
The place looks absolutely horrible... good luck fishing.
