Jail vs. Nursing Homes

Let's put the seniors in jail, and the criminals in a nursing home.

This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies, and walks, they'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc. and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.

They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.

Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.

A guard would check on them every 20 minutes, and bring their meals and snacks to their cell. They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.

They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, pool, and education, simple clothing, shoes, slippers, P.J.'s and legal aid would be free, on request.

Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.

Each senior could have a P.C., T.V., Radio, and daily phone calls.

There would be a board of directors, to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct, that would be strictly adhered to.

The "criminals" would get cold food, be left all alone, and unsupervised.

Lights off at 8 pm, and showers once a week.

Live in a tiny room, and pay $5000.00 per month and have no hope of ever getting out.

Justice for all.

Why don't we face reality and admit that most of the people that are incarcerated have moved their standard of living up several notchs. If jails and prisons were more harsh, maybe they wouldn't be so anxious to return to them.

They actually do have it all backwards, don't they? This actually is very true.

OMG, you are so right! The care that the elderly receive in nursing homes is appalling...I'm going through it right now and it is heartbreaking. Does no one care about the elderly? When you run out of money to pay privately, the state takes the person's home, car, etc., and his or her entire social security check (minus $71 a month for "personal expenses" such as having her hair done - not enough!). There's then NOTHING left if she needs a pair of shoes or a new nightgown. Who wants to see their parent in this situation? The care received is minimal, even in "the best" facility. Our parents and grandparents deserve sooooo much better!

obviously you read all the propaganda they put out there! send the old folks to the pen! then they would have their own prison gang too.they would need it to protect their own, meds would be stolen, folks would be swapped back and forth, and pay dirty guards, food tat aint enough to sustain a gradeschooler, most elderly that go to jail live out their lives in a jailcell with med [access]no exercise, and usually die with their finger pushing the call button hopeing for some fat, lazy, underpaid nurse to come,if the soaps aint on!

This is so true. I am an stna. I work in a facility that sucks. Everyday I fight with women about providing care. I am hated bc I actually provide quality care... I brush teeth.. since I started I havent seen one other person do this... like the last person said fat lazy underpaid aides who pretend to be providing care but are really watching soaps.. its nasty. I hate it but refuse to quit bc I know the residents need me. They deserve better.
