This is Thomas Salme, a maintenance engineer who became a Boeing 737 pilot by flying a few nights in a flight simulator and printing a fake airliner pilot license. Amazingly enough, he flew passengers for thirteen years without any incidents.
Thirteen years of back and forth from Sweden to everywhere else in Europe. Nobody noticed until a couple of months ago, when Salme was caught by the police as he was getting ready for take off. He was in the cockpit of a Boeing 737, with 101 passengers at Amsterdam's Schipol airport. He admits that it was all a crazy idea:
"I got the crackpot idea to apply as a co-pilot at a real airline so I made myself a Swedish flying permit with a logo out of regular white paper. It wasn't laminated, and looked like something I'd made at home. It was surprisingly easy. The documents look different everywhere in Europe. An Italian airline doesn't know what a Swedish license looks like. And you can forge all the IDs you need. I'd train there for two or three hours at a time—at least 15 to 20 times over one and a half years."
Despite putting the lives of thousands at risk, Salme only got fined a couple thousand dollars and was banned from flying for a year.

hell he is probably better than alot of other pilots ... give him the license to fly ... they gave Obama a Nobel prize for doing nothing
He doesn't actually know how to fly until he attends a certified flight instructor's school and pays a huge sum of money. Then, they will give him a real certificate indicating he is capable of doing exactly what he has already been doing safely for many years.

We worship our government even though time and time again they demonstrate clearly they cannot or will not protect us. These governments in Europe have a licensing requirement to fly an airplane.
We believe if the person is not licensed he cannot safely fly the aircraft.
Now we know better since this individual crashed several planes and . . .
Oh wait a minute . . . that's right . . . he flew safely for years without ever being caught.
Well anyway everyone was in danger even if nothing happened. Something could have happened and that is all that matters.
I'm not licensed, but I've flown many hours safely and had fun doing it! It's a talent that I'm proud of, and not to dis the benefits of a formal education, a good pilot is one who can do it safely and never have an issue. Not being licensed probably makes me take more precautions that the next guy! Good pilots are valuable people, and this guy should get credit for his hours toward a license.

I worked with a guy who drove a eighteen wheeler without a licence at all....could not read the test or book...but I tell you what he could drive that tractor trailer with the best of them.....How he never got caught Ill never know....
