Washington, DC -- RIDING PUBLIC TRANSIT SAVES INDIVIDUALS $9,190 ANNUALLY
Yearly Transit Savings over $250 Higher Than This Time Last Year
Individuals who ride public transportation can save on average $9,190 annually based on the November 9, 2009 national average gas price and the national unreserved monthly parking rate. Over the last year, an individual riding public transportation would have saved an additional $255 due to the 41 cent increase of gasoline per gallon since November 2008.
For the Philadelphia area, the APTA report shows a monthly savings of $923 and an annual savings of $11,076.
The Transit Savings Report released monthly by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) calculates the average annual and monthly savings for public transit users. The report examines how an individual in a two-person household can save money by taking public transportation and living with one less car.
Transit riders can save on average $766 per month. The savings amount is based on the cost of the national averages for parking and driving, as well as the November 9 national average gas price of $2.664 per gallon for self-serve regular gasoline as reported by AAA. Since last month the cost of a gallon of gasoline has increased 19 cents. This is an increase in savings that equates to an additional $21 per month.
Taking public transportation provides a safe and affordable way for individuals and families to cut costs, according to APTA. In addition, local public transit offers a travel option that has an immediate positive impact in reducing an individual overall carbon footprint while helping reduce dependence on foreign oil.

I live in Baltimore area and would rather overpay 10K than take the MTA bus.
You never actually SAVE money unless you put the difference in the bank.
Alex I second that... I'm in Bmore and its not like we have an efficient subway system like DC... No chance in hell I'd ever get on one of them MTA buses.

Does that Marxist agenda report take in to consideration the extra expense of:
1. Down time and doctors fees for all the dieases you catch riding the bus with the cattle.
2. The loss do to being mugged or having your pocket picked.
3. The extra life insurance premiums for taking you life in your own hands riding the bus?
4. The clothes that get ruined when you accidentally sit down on the gummy goo blob.
A single transit ticket here in Salisbury is $3.00 each. This means it cost's $3.00 to get on board. Another $3.00 to take the transfer bus. Then you may have to make another transfer and you could end up paying $12.00 for a single round trip!
