Ireton"s Vetoe Sparks Interesting Debate

"The bigger story is now what for Ireton? He has fired the first volley against the council majority. What will happen if Ireton needs or wants the support of the majority? He may have used his veto in a manner or on an issue that may cost him in the future. Relationship building is an important part of governance and this issue may set a tone of things to come. Only time will tell if he made the correct choice in using this important power on this issue. It is my belief he as now set a tone that he may have to pay for later on an issue much more important to him. We will have to wait and see!"

Is that what honorable government is all about? The proposal sucked and never even made it past Phase I, let alone Phase II. These Council Members should represent the TAXPAYERS as this is what the Citizens voted them into Office for.

Instead, the old Tilghman style of governing is at it again. Mayor Ireton did the right thing. Quit your bellyaching and move on. In fact, GROW UP! We want people in Office representing our best interests, NOT THEIRS! Thank You Jim for making a great move.

Honestly Joe. That could easily be said to you about our President.

Joe,
Why would we want Salisbury government to represent your interests? Your not even a citizen of Salibury? Please tell me why?

Because he pays more taxes in Salisbury than you do, that's why.

Joe, I am a taxpayer in Salisbury. I pay close to $6,000.00 a year for one building Downtown in City/County taxes.

Now, if you'd like to pick on someone who doesn't pay taxes in the City, so be it. In the mean time, I have every right to the voice I use here referencing the City of Salisbury.

Hmm...why would any business person want to invest anything into Salisbury. It is a joke and will never change. Low voter turn out proves my point. Plus it is a rental community. There is no incentative to be there

It must have been an interesting debate to actually change the spelling of the word "veto" and change apostrophes to quotation marks!

Man! Mayor Ireton has more power than anyone knew...
