Senator Ben Cardin Visits SU Part II

As you can clearly see, the audience is mainly Seniors, certainly not the kind of crowd that warrants 8 Police Officers. However, you can't be too careful these days, right? I mean, God Forbid "anyone" especially an American Citizen actually challenge Government Officials and abuse their 1st Amendment Rights.

Then again, there were some pretty hostile, (NOT) picketers outside the building a good 100 yards away expressing their 1st Amendment Rights too. I guesstimate about 40 or so picketers.

I think the Press has a lot to do with this, (not to say certain people aren't feeding them) over abundance of Police presence/protection. Citizens are angry, confused, concerned and more importantly, why haven't the CITIZENS been educated first. Before WE can debate weather or not this proposal is any good, where's our 1,000 page document in which we can ALL review very carefully BEFORE it goes to Congress.

Now I'm not saying you can't access it but my concern is, why does Congress think they can just turn our lives upside down and I believe the answer is, because YOU'RE not educated.

I have heard some highly spirited debates on Health Care and quite frankly, some have it right but to be truthful with you, many have it wrong. That is, FOR THE MOMENT.

You see, Americans know what they see today will be a completely different plan tomorrow. Look at Social Security as just one example. Everything the government has touched they screwed up and Americans can't afford trial and error any more.

There are enough great minds out there to deliver a plan that Americans can see and review FIRST before Congress gets a hold of it and then let our Representatives decide by popular demand.

They don't want that because Americans/Voters will then have a strong hold on what the masses really want. If things were done more openly, you wouldn't have a need for PORK.

Anyhow, a strong Police presence was absolutely unnecessary and quite frankly is was a slap in the face IMHO. Let me make this very clear. I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with the Police Officers. This is happening everywhere. Congress is just making this out to be a hostile situation using scare tactics and it's wrong. Just my opinion Folks. Still more to come on this meeting.

In the first place you are guilty of winding up the wingnuts. You blog and a few other misinformed the public that this was a Town Hall which it clearly wasn't. Secondly, why don't you get a set of stones and admit YOU were wrong.

Joe , they want the country to believe it is a hostile situation.
What they don't understand , it very well could get that way soon. The people are not going to take it anymore. The seniors are the ones that will suffer most , they are the ones that hold most of the stock and money in this country.
Wake up America , we are comming ,
like it or not. We can embrace you or we can hate you. Our numbers are more than you can imagine.
We will be relentless in our mission. I love this country and will not be overcome by the Obama
communist.

>>the audience is mainly Seniors

Sure, everyone else is at work!

Cardin scheduled this at a very bad time of day for working folk.

Believe me, if he'd made it at 4 PM I would have got off work early and made a point of being there. I guess I have to wait until I'm retired to attend an event like this, but by that time I'll be fed soilent green by the government.

I wonder who has to pay the overtime costs for these off duty police officers? I wonder how much the total expenses for this event cost the tax paying citizens. Can someone give us a clue on this one?

Anonymous said...

why was it a slap in the face on the number of officers? It seems prudent to me; until he got there, there is no telling how many people will show up.

anonymous 2:05, we have delivered the information we were provided. YOU clearly, (through comments) made it clear it was not a Town Hall Meeting.

Nevertheless, I don't give a rat A$$ what they call it, citizens/taxpayers want to be involved and get this, they want to actually get educated.

Again, I'll be the first to agree that many, let me repeat, MANY people have their facts WRONG on many of the topics referencing this Health Care Plan.

So rather than acting like you know it all, why don't you simply attempt to EDUCATE others.

Mind you, in the end I think the entire thing is complete BS because it will not be in 10 years what is being shoved down every one's throat today. It's a Used Car Salesman BS Plan, that's all there is to it.

Sure wish they could mobalize that many police in the local areas where they are so despertly needed. I quess they only do this for special occassions or special people.

2:09 I hear you but the revolution is not about HATE, its about LOVE, of the country and our past and our future. There is no room for HATE any where in what I would fight for. Hates not a cause its a cancer.

I don't see an admission Joe. YOU were informed early on that this was a closed meeting to the public, had nothing to do with healthcare, wasn't a Town Hall. YOU continued to stoke the fire of misinformation that it was a Town Hall even today. Admit you're wrong and apologize to the folks you lied to. Or if what you say is true "you were misinformed" maybe you should admit that the sources of your information are not to be believed.

anonymous 2:23, Prove It! Show me one document that was sent to me or could have been sent to me stating it was any different. I personally did not get an invitation, so come on big boy, bring it on.

Anonymous said...

Anon223 can't prove it! There was no 223 comment! Big boy...

"I mean, God Forbid "anyone" especially an American Citizen actually challenge Government Officials and abuse their 1st Amendment Rights."

I would bet the cops are there for personal safety. That is not covered by the 1st Amend. Rights.

It does not matter whether or not this was a town hall meeting. It WAS an opportunity for a congressmen to meet with a small group of unsatisfied constituients. He choose not to meet. I am glad I went. If for nothing else to uphold my right to assemble "PEACE-ABLY"

That looks like campus police, not SPD, the college should be footing the bill.

Anonymous said...

Just like Hitler the left is trying to shut up tax paying citizens.

Anonymous said...

This is the action the polititions want to control and low and beho they are going to hear about it come 2010!

Anonymous said...

I spoke with Lt. Nichols of campus police. He told me that only one of the officers was on overtime (for three hours).

Anonymous said...

Yep, looks like campus police. I can only spot one officer packing arms..

Anonymous said...

3:00 last I knew, ALL SU officers carry sidearms. I would think after Va. Tech every campus' officers carry sidearms.

Joe, why wouldn't a public official, especially a US senator, be expected to have a security detail? The intelligence level on this forum sinks by the day. But don't worry; there are a few logical thinking folks from the right and left sides of the aisle who can hopefully maintain some semblance of factual-based debate.

Anonymous said...

What you don't see here is all the support from passing motorist that had to work. Many stopped to say thank you for being here. Many honked with THUMBS UP, even nearly every Police vehicle from many different agencies.

And yes many that said if I wasn't working I,d be here with you.

We are not all at medicare age. We are all ages, all political affliations, all social and ethnic background. We are Americans that have sense enough to see our country is under attack.

I find that image where the lady was escorted out horrific. my goodness what are we coming to. Proper police procedure mandates that the officers should have restrained her more vigorously and perhaps used their nightsticks.

Anonymous said...

Cardin won't have an open to the public town hall but he will use our police officer resources, great!

betsy said...

Dave is absolutely correct here .she is obvously a patriot who deserved to expres her voice and has a lot of stones to be so uppity and quite frankly needed to be tasered and receive a round of applause from the local community who has had enough of displays of emotion lkike this. I am outraged and I just am not sure why but it feels exhilarating.Good work local law enforcement.

3:24 PM

it's clear that you are on the left, they are the only ones that think others are less intelligent.

wake-up call; only in your twisted little mind.

The presence of police at a public political gathering is absoultely uncalled for. I am not convinced that in the midst of law abiding and hard working citizens that a U. S. Senator needs police protection! Therefore, it must be for one or all of the following reasons:

1. It is simply for intimidation.

2. the politician is lacking the courage necessary to fulfill the duties of the office to which elected (servant of the people).

3. It fits in well with the propagandizing of the meetings, i.e., people attending ascribe to nazism, mob membership, and are militia.

Has it always been this way, or have I just had a reawakening?

Anonymous said...

anon 4:17 says "the left, they are the only ones that think others are less intelligent."

But....
on the “Hannity special” post
Anon 4:08
“Anyone with even 1/2 a brain cell should be able to see that but the hatred for the former POTUS completely blinded the left and left of center.
Those of us that have a grain of commonsense did the right thing when we pulled the lever.”

Anon 4:33
“I mean no-one in their right mind could vote for someone like that.
Boy were we fooled by the fools.”

And these are just comments from 1 posting. 4:17 when it comes to your previous comment, its obvious the facts are not on your side. In fact, I doubt if the facts are ever on your side because you do not look at the facts objectively.

4:51, are you guys that intimidated by the same police that you hold so near and dear, the same police that would never do anything "stupidly"? This is a hot button issue so obviously there's a chance that things can get out of hand. Stop all this gov. conspiracy crap.

betsy said...

Dave or 4;51 is right. look at the intimidation in these pictures. What on earth were people thinking here? It is simply outrageous. that older woman was obviously looking for trouble. She is fortunate she didnt get tasered in my opinion. the oldest ones are the biggest troublemakers and it is our duty to render them incapacitated so that they are entitled to the silent form of LIBERTY which our Constitution allows. I dont know what to think anymore when i hear these stories. It is awful and reminds me when the nazis had no control over me whatso-ever. IMHO that is just beyond horrible.

Anonymous said...

Police presence is like a firearm, better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.
Good job SU police, next time lock a few of those troublemakers up.

Anonymous said...

It is so nice to see people are finally awakening to the police state which has been erected in our midst.

Anonymous said...

If we are in a police state, and the police are so intimidating, then it must have been STUPID for Gates to get arrested on his own property. His arrest must have only been because he talked back to the policeman.

CamdenMom said...

betsy is correct but all i know is i am glad we have fine state troopers there instead of county elected sheriffs who have inappropriate relationships with local bloggers. we cant even stop armed muggings but im glad we stop those hippies with psyciogenic mariwauna from stalking us. heavens. we need to lock up more of these nonviolent predators in order for us to inflate crime statistics and get budget moiney we dont deserve. 2010 gives us a chance to take back OUR America. Who has a voive to stand with us when we need it!

Anonymous said...

We ARE a police state and it WAS stupid for gates to be locked up on his own property. Just because you pay a mortgage in my America doesn't mean you are entitled to come and go as you please. WTF!!!!

Anonymous said...

At least our country hasnt sank so low as to have SUICIDE BOMBERS, yet. We should count our LUCKY stars.
