Princess Anne Taxes

"Joe,

People and I from the town of Princess Anne are geting signatures on a Referendum Petition on raising are taxes. We are tired if paying a high tax when we do not get nathing except trash pick up. We need 285 signatures by this friday 6/26/09. The town last week voted to rise them 10% on July 1st. Where is this money going too? Are great commisioners voted to give there selfs a $6,500 dollar rise. And they are going to rise are taxes. They also went to Ocean City and spent $10,000 dolars on rooms and food for a conventoin. Are tax money at work. Also Frank White drives a town car and runs all over the earth, like to the gym to work out. Are tax money at work. They also did not gave the Princess Anne Vol fire Co no money this 2009 year. They said that the town has no more money left. People are thinking that there tax money is going to public safety but it is not. Something is wrong with this. But yet the but the plain to spend $18,771 on the towns park. What park? There is nathing there except grass...... It cost that much to cut?

Joe there is also much, much more. Help us fight back by checking in to this and writing about it. Thanks....."

If the deadline was 6/26/09, they missed it.

I'm a UMES student that has rented housing in Princess Anne for 4 years. Our water bills are split between everyone in the entire building because the town will not install water meters, which means I have to pay extra to cover the water used by families with kids. The cops are more interested in clicket or ticket than going after the folks who kicked in my neighbor's door or the crack whores you see at night. I'm from a small town and I love it. Can't say the same thing about this small town.

The taxes are not going to education with that grammer.

WOW, Can you really take this letter seriously? Words like, (are) instead of our, and "They also did not (gave) the Princess Anne Vol Fire Co (no) money this 2009 year. I bet who ever did this is from that fire dept. (Are) education dollars hard at work!

Did a child write this letter? Try proofreading or spellchecker. If you're not that bright atleast use the tools at hand.

10:17 that's standard practice for most towns. its up to the owner to add sub meters and distribute the cost accordingly. Most owners don't want the cost or the hassle.

10:49, thanks for the info. If true than I have been duped by two prop. managers who say it's on the city to install.
"standard practice in most towns" in MD? Used to live in NC and never had this problem.

Wow that's some education standard. Why even post this comment. The writer can't even compose an english sentence. How can they expect any results when they dont have the basics of education?

11:06 in most places i've lived or worked. the town does not want the hassle of reading 100 meters for building, so they single meter it and let the owner do the rest. those large condos in ocean city only have 1 meter.

well, give them credit, at least they are not in jail.

Well, maybe some jail time would lead to some english classes.

There are ( unfortunately) alot of folks in this area who are lacking in grammer- but that does not in itself, make their comments less valid. Hell, I may have misspelled a word or two here!
To those who feel compelled to critique the grammer-get a life.

Joe, Maybe you would consider editing for content and clarity those comments that might be particularly embarassing to the contributor.

Thats the kind of education those people get from somerset county.
At least they took an interest to write a post. I am proud of them for that.

Having lived there previously,I can say that it is a largely "good ole boy" town and if you aint in,you aint "in",but what is alarming is the crime rate.Every week in the local paper you have police reports of multiple robberies where nobody is ever caught, probably because they are too busy breaking up loud parties at the student housing complexes.Between rowdy college students, fringe criminals who move here from the city to be close to relatives in ECI,hoodlums slinging dope and the good ole boys-you can have that town.

I have lived in Pr Anne for 20 years. I learned early on that going to town meetings, protests, etc. doesn't help. The meetings are a joke. They (officials) are going to do what they want to make it nicer for themselves. They don't give a sh** about the residents. I am in the process of moving and because I want to sell my house soon, I am selling "as is" because I can't justify a high selling price and sell it because of the fact that the taxes are so high. This includes trash pick up (we used to have to pay extra for that), street repair???, police protection??, snow removal????. In short, why am I paying $800 for trash removal?

11:06 I am moving to NC hope it is better there!

I live in Princess Anne and NO not all of us are educated this way. Just because we live in a small "good ole' boy town" doesn't mean we all live the uneducated life. So please get it straight before you blame "ALL".

I love NC. Only problem is we have alot of folks that have moved down from NYC and Jersey; starting to bring their big city mess (crime, drugs, gangs, rude attitudes) down our way. Hope you find happiness and peace in the east by the beach. Or in the mountains.

citygoer said...

You mean the big city crime like a corrupt local govt., high crime and robberies, local favoritism and drugs. WAIT... the same issues many eastern shore towns have. Big cities arent as bad as most think. Its the slow minded apologist mentality that automatically thinks all big cities are bad. NEWS FLASH: they aren't. Every city or town has issues. How these issues are resolved/addressed or lack thereof is what makes a city a great place or a sh*thole to live. There is no checks and balances here and the good ol boy network runs nearly everything.

Yes some of us from Somerset County might not be able to write a complete sentence, but some can. The town officals are corrupt thats not the only issue. One issue is that even if you are a land owner in the town limits if you dont reside there you dont have a say or a vote in the local elections. The issue with Frank White is true, he does use his position for his benefit. Maybe Joe Albero can give us some information on Frank White since they are friends (maybe what happened in Pocomoke). Who ever stated that the composer of original post was a member of the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company should get their facts straight. I am currently the Chief of the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Co. Inc. and it bothers me that some of you think everyone from Somerset County are uneducated hicks. Its true we havnt recieved any funding from the town of Princess Anne.

I believe they also owe the county past due funds in addition to the Fire Company

Chimera said...

How can they get away with not funding the fire department that serves the whole town and outlying areas?
