NEW YORK (July 16) - A New York City teenager has admitted that she failed to let a kitten out of an oven after a friend put the animal inside and left it to roast to death.
Skip over this content After pleading guilty to charges of animal cruelty and attempted burglary on Wednesday, 17-year-old Cheyenne Cherry confronted a row of animal activists outside the courtroom. Cherry stuck out her tongue and told the activists that the kitten named Tiger Lily was "dead."
Authorities say Cherry and a 14-year-old friend ransacked a Bronx apartment before putting the cat in the oven, where it cried and scratched before dying.
The 14-year-old was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and burglary in the May 6 incident.
Cherry will serve a year in jail under a plea bargain.

What if this story read "14 year old aborts pregancy at 6 months" What would the outcry be then! Our society prohibits killing of innocent animals and not only allows, but promotes the killing of human beings. Does that strike anyone else as odd?

Anything pregnancy over viable justation should be outlawed. I do not promote abortion, just the right to have the choice. So far, the supreme court ruled on that one in the 1970's...Roe v. Wade.
Kittens are property, not humans. If you step up to the plate for dogs, cats and all the cute animals you need to step up to the plate for everything. How many people are going to fight for flies, mosquitos, roaches and spiders?

As I do agree with you @ 6 mo's she should have just given the baby up for adaption. However, animals and humans are different. Our tax money doesn't go to pay for a cat or dog for 18 YEARS because someone didn't want it. I see abortion as population control. Not to mention there are enough people out there who have children and should not! No abortion means more child abuse or worse.

WOW--Lets put this in perspective: A minor gets a year for putting a kitten in an oven, but no jail time for all the women who abort millions of innocent babies every year... If baby murderers get nothing then I would say a year is WAY TOO LONG for a kitten killer.

As for the girl's behavior,what else can we expect from a world that treats completely innocent unborn human life as just a blob of matter, and not the miracle that God gives us. Certainly we are all right in being upset about her treatment of a pet, but you must realize this culture lifts cute, fuzzy animals above human babies who cannot speak for themselves. This child should pay a price for what she's done. But, unlike an animal, she has in her the ability to repent from her ways. Instead of sending her to her death, you should be seeking ways to turn her around. Because just like her, your whole nation is under this notion that abortion is just a form of ridding unwanted people from being a burden to the rest of us, when in fact, it's making those who perform abortions ultra rich. It's denying loving families who are waiting in line to adopt a child, when they may possibly not be able to have their own. It is ruining the lives of those having their children aborted. Later on in their lives, these women tell stories of extreme guilt for their actions, of inability to hold other peoples children, of dependency on drugs, and trouble being married. But lets not forget - while your heart aches over the kitten in the oven, as it should, is your heart not touched and your soul not wrenched at the hideous, murderous, absolute ghastly operation that abortion is? I do not condone cruelty to animals and this particular incident is more than sick; I find it disgusting that most readers are more outraged when a cat is murdered than when a human being is killed for no reason. Until the liberal judges start handing out stiff sentences for crimes like rape, child abuse, and murder than we will continue to live in a society where violence is just another regular event in our lives.

My point is that people can get far more worked up over cruelty to animals than to acts of violence to other human beings. The Bible says an eye for an eye is justice. Have our judicial system apply the eye for an eye concept to all crimes. It is what our constitution intended, for if we make the punishment commensurate with the crime it cannot be "cruel or unusual punishment"! The liberals on our Supreme Court who horribly mangle our constitution in their execrable attempts to mold the constitution to their purposes instead of simply interpreting it as they are supposed to do will continue to ruin our once great nation!
It should be this simple: If you rape, you lose your raping parts + spend a LONG time in jail. If you harm a child, you die. Similar harsh penalities that are commensurate with every crime would take a big bite out of crime in our communities and make law abiding citizens much, much safer. Our liberal judges with their slap on the wrist penalities offer virtually no deterrent to criminals who see a couple years in jail as rest and recovery time, and who will be right back on in our communities, robbing, raping and murdering.
If you torture animals for amusement like this sick bitch, you need to be severely punished and removed from free society forever, as the statistics overwhelmingly show that such evil, sick individuals will continue and escalate these hideous acts as long as they have the opportunity to do so!

My first reaction, pure shock. Then I cried for the poor helpless animal. They cannot defend themselves, especially a tiny kitten. Can you imagine the horror of what she had to endure in a 500 degree oven??!!
2nd reaction was, they ought to be put in a 500 degree oven themselves and see how it feels, & called those girls every name in the book. I asked the powers that be for forgiveness for my horrible thoughts. But I'm so angry and hurt that this could be done. I just lost a cat recently, he was ill and I had to put him to sleep. That was horror enough, but to see this on the wake of his death was too much. I hope the higher powers forgive my evil thoughts to those girls, but I still feel like they need a tough sentence. A year's probation and a few months in juvy isn't enough. They should try the adult correctional institutes for these two. Maybe they'll get the hint that what they did was wrong. Now just waiting for Karma to catch them up! Sooner or later, they'll have a taste of what they did.
