SALISBURY: A LINE ITEM BUDGET THIS YEAR – NOT

Recall the talk during the election this Spring about the City having a line item budget once again? It looks like that won’t happen this time around. The budget bill that’s on the agenda for adoption at tonight’s City Council meeting does not list or mention line items or contain any reference to any itemization of the broad appropriation categories that are stated in the ordinance.

It’s the same form of budget that became standard with the election of the “Dream Team” in 2003. How do you like what’s happened to your property taxes since then?

Did you expect any different? Jim Ireton expressed that there is plenty of time to work on the budget, 19 more days.

I guess the majority doesn't want to work full time on the budget. What ever happened to Bubba's commitment to work full time for the city after retirement?

We heard all his full time rhetoric during the elections, this is what we would have if he had won, the citizens made a great decision. Come on 2011.

Remember this is Barrie's budget, not Jim's and Jim can't get a line item budget without the Council's cooperation.

But he can ask that they adopt the line items in the budget book as the basis for the appropriations -- let the the 3 stooges vote that down, because we will remember in 2011!

Bubba works full time for the city alright. Working with Barrie to undercut anything that anyone else does that would be good for the city.

Ireton doesn't need a sharp pencil. He needs a big fat eraser!

Unfortunately Debbie Campbell was ill and could not attend, so when Ms. Cohen made a move to get a line item budget, it died for not having a second sponsor, because the 3 stooges didn't support it.

You can put Bubba and Shanie's IQ together and it wouldn't equal Terry or Debbie's IQ singley.
