Places To Go In Wicomico County That Don't Cost A Penny

When you turn into the Henry Parker Sports Complex off Naylor Mill Road what you recognize most are the Ball Fields. This time of year they're loaded with Softball Teams and way in the back is LAX Fields and Soccer Fields.

However, hidden in the woods where no one would ever know it, is a BMX Bike Trail that is kept up and maintained by a group of enthusiasts and I have to tell you, it's one heck of a Trail!

If you want to take some time and experience something perhaps new and different, pack the bikes up and follow these instructions, they're pretty simple.

When you turn into the Sports Complex, take the road to the very end. Straight ahead, (where the road ends) is a very tall mound of dirt. Behind that dirt mound is where the Trail begins. Be sure to park your car in the parking lot and not the road.

Over time we have had newcomers to the Salisbury area asks what they can do with their children and or their time. This is one of them. It costs you nothing but we ask you respect what they have done here and you pick up any trash, even if its not your own. Not that you'll find any there because it's pretty much spotless. Just respect what they have done here and enjoy the trails.

Hopefully one of the people that go there regularly chimes in and lets us all know more about this area. It's great exercise and a beautiful and peaceful setting. Many BMX Riders also enjoyed trails around the City Park area and the City used to maintain them regularly but they have since slacked off and no one uses them any longer. This Park shown above shows you what you can have WITHOUT City/County funding, just like the upcoming Skate Park, it will more than likely excell because our local Government won't have their hands tied looking for funding.

Another Salisbury News Exclusive.

I had no idea that was back there either and the post says "Places" so I'm hoping others will list some other things to do in the county that don't cost anything, except for riding bikes on the road in my neighborhood-I can't think of anything.

Good post Joe I didn't know that was there.

How long is the trail?

Nice trails. They are built and maintained mostly by mountain bikers. Great for trail running, hiking, and cross-country mountain biking. NOT a BMX track. Please be courteous and leave no trace.

These trails are not for BMX riders. They are for moutnain bikers and more serious ones at that. The third picture down is of a very dangerous and unstable obstacle put up by BMX riders and it was destroyed. If it has been resurrected then the serious mountains will probably soon tear it back down and block it off. We do not want BMX out there tearing up perfectly good trails and messing up the stable obstacles put in place by people who know what they are doing.

Yeah. Bmxers really couldn't do much out there. I've tried before. I wish we could get some trails up there for bmxers though. Everything we have is torn down.

I know the County doesn't sponsor this, but are they okay with it being there? Most places get shut down once they are discovered, and although I can't ride here, I would be afraid of this publicity. I would hate to see it shut down.

It would be nice to see trails for 4 wheelers so they would have a place to ride instead of doing it illegally.

I don't know if this is good or bad that these trails are now exposed. Good luck with a BMX bike out there. Mountain bikes recommended. Please don't even thing about anything with a motor back there, it will ruin the trails.
