City Of Salisbury Press Release

City of Salisbury Receives $5,000 Challenge Donation for the All America City Competition

On Wednesday, May 20, 2009, the City of Salisbury received a $5,000 challenge donation to fund the delegates’ travel to Tampa, Florida to compete for the designation of All America City. The anonymous donor believes that the designation is very important to the economic development and attraction of tourist to see the wonderful place that is Salisbury. The challenge donation was immediately answered with a $500 donation from Mr. Dwayne Lockman of Rajun Cajun of Delmarva, LLC.
The All America City delegation of 19 individuals will be traveling to Tampa, Florida on June 17th through 20, 2009. The committee and the delegates have been actively fundraising for the event since the finalist designation was received in March of this year. Costs to attend the conference have been estimated at approximately $1,000 per delegate. Josh Thompson, who is a delegate, recently sent a letter that was printed by the Daily Times imploring the community to support the youth delegates and this important endeavor.

Interested donors, who would like to rise to the challenge to send the delegation to compete for the coveted title of an All America City, can send donations made payable to the “City of Salisbury” to 125 N. Division Street, Salisbury, MD 21801, Attn: Loré L. Chambers. Donations are required no later than June 4th, 2009.

What a waste of money in this economy.

Maybe the attendees can give us a good reason to spend this money. It's all a bunch of crap in most peoples' minds.

How I wish our city deserved the honor. Maybe we should work on actually earning the distinction instead of trying to get recogniton we do not merit.

Ask how big the army is that they are planning to send to this thing.

Here, here, 1:54!

As John McEnroe used to scream at umpires, "You cannot be f------ serious!!!!" All American City???? It has been tabbed as having the second highest crime rate in Maryland behind Baltimore and the 10th most dangerous city in the country. The dickering and bickering of the City Council over the last 8 years..... A downtown area that is going to hell in a handbasket..... Me thinks Harlem has a better chance.

Of all the worthy causes, this isn't one of them. Let's see how many would go if the convention was in Detroit.

This has to be the biggest waste of tax payers money (yes, I know its a grant, but where did the grant funds come from - can you say Tax Payers). All just to appease the ego of BPT and her group of monkeys!

A fool and his money are soon to part -- proven once again.

The A-A City contest is total BS -- the only thing that the winner has is the best PR machine and slickest promotion.

If the judges spent 3 hours here they would disqualify Salisbury for fraud.

Joe:

Please post the address -- for e-mail -- so we can give the All-American City folks the real "Smallsbarrie story".

If Jim Ireton spends 10 cents of City money on this, he won't get my vote ever again.

I'm with 1:54, if we deserved it that would be great, however we all know better.

I think Jim Ireton can lead us there in all good time but Salisbury is not an All American City.

The budget was passed tonight and it's time to get to work on crime ASAP and not be wasting the time for some pie in the sky award we don't deserve. Yet!

That contest is a bigger waste of money than painting that old and abandoned "standpipe."

Somebody can lie their a$$ off to get this award for this crime infested, dirty, run down building town.
