Traffic Crash Sends Two Drivers To The Hospital

Harrington – Delaware State Police have investigated a traffic crash that resulted in injuries.

The crash occurred on Monday evening May 25 just before 9 pm on US 13 north of Harrington approximately 3/10 of a mile north of Hopkins Cemetery.

Orlandra Burris, 18, of Felton was traveling north on US 13 in the right lane when she came upon a slower moving truck. As she moved into the left lane her 2009 Saturn Relay SUV went out of control and crossed into the southbound lanes. The Saturn struck the driver’s side of a 2000 Honda Passport which was heading south on US 13. After the impact both vehicles spun out of control and came to rest on the southbound side of the highway. Each vehicle ended up striking two separate utility poles.

The driver of the Honda Passport was identified as Gail L. Wayman, 44, Dover. She was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital where she was treated for chest pain and an injured right wrist.

Burris was taken to Kent General Hospital where she was treated for leg and back pain. Burris was cited by troopers for careless driving.

Both operators were wearing their seatbelts.

The southbound right lane was closed for approximately an hour until the wreckage could be cleared.
