IT’S THAT SAME OLD SALISBURY CITY COUNCIL

So, you thought things would change after an election in which Comegys was creamed, Shields barely survived and Campbell was reelected by a huge margin? WRONG! Well, one thing has actually changed.

After years of no qualms about the City providing health coverage for his fellow-stooges, Michael Day and Shanie Shields, Bubba now would withhold it for other members of the Council who refuse to join the scheme team. Shanie gets that religion just as soon as she "finds" another source of health insurance coverage. Then there’s Louise Smith, who has other government provided coverage.

And, behind the curtain, it’s Barrie P. Tilghman – gone but not forgotten. Let’s "balance" her proposed budget by striking the funding she included for (1) the standpipe (2) the "All-American City" contest and (3) a big raise for Lore Chambers. Those items would cover the health insurance coverage that Barrie failed to include – her "going away present" for Ms. Campbell and Ms. Cohen.

By your logic anything funded by the city aught to be maintained? And you preach change?

10:41,
No, the city should NOT fund $25,000 to buy their way into "all-American city" status (totally bogus) when they are cutting health care that was promised. It is mean and vindictive.

Louise, gary, and Shanie said everyone needs to sacrifice during this tough time, but in reality they are asking only Debbie and Terry to sacrifice. So here's a simple solution: each council member gives up $2,000 in salary, Louise gives up $4,000 (since she gets $2,000 more), Lore Chambers gives up $5,000 of her fake raise. Bam, health insurance is restored and everyone, not just 2 people had to sacrifice. You willing to put your money where your mouths are, Gary, Shanie, and Louise?

I am new at this city council meeting..I have attended a couple of them and see how embarassing Bubba can be towards Debbie Campbell. Is it possible to have taxpaying citizens to attend these meeting and as a group chalenge his decisions. I say his decisions because he votes and Weasel and Shannie go along with him. I dont think these two give any thought as to what they are voting on. If we have citizens as a group challenge him will it do any good. He had no recourse when everyone came forward for the Urban Group. We need the same backing for Cohen and Campbell. Lets all get together at these meetings and make some since on different projects. Jim cant do it alone. He need our backing..We will see you at the council meetings. Normall, I am told there are only a handful of people who attend..We need to make a change. We can ALL do it. See you at the Council and demand a change.

I don't know the fine points of the law, but according to Judge Judy, an oral contract is legally binding. Now who among the City Council members are more creditable? We all know the answer to that one.

It seems that Barrie Parsons Tilghman is a cancer that continues to grow on the city.

I think my comment has a mis-spelled word, but I can't find my dictionary.

Precisely my point, just because the city funded or paid for something doesn't mean it is set in stone for life. There needs to be a realistic, honest and reasonable assessment of city expenditures.
Health care is part of that, and if it needs to be reassessed, so be it. Lay out all the facts and vote on it, in a factual and non-emotional manner, that remains true to council members fiducial responsibility to the taxpayers.

1:14, it doesn't matter what trumped up reasons the other three give. They did this for spite. And the cuts someone suggested (e.g. All America award) would more than cover the health insurance.

Gary Comegys was worried about keeping the word of the city for a million dollar developer giveaway the city did not have to give, but he doesn't mind screwing over the two council members he hates.

Unethical jerk in my opinion.

Why is this issue only surfacing now, didn't they know it was in the budget prior to election and Barrie leaving?

4:19,

nope--the budget Barrie submitted came AFTER the election. No class.

I think that retaining people like C & C is far more important than the standpipe, the raise for Lore and the "All American City" that we know we are not.

That doesn't mean we can't be an "All American City."
