Is Something Actually Getting Done On The Old Theater?

Workers have been sighted outside the old Downtown Theater and it has been reported some kind of work is actually being done. Will it end up being like the old Mall? You know, the building comes down and then there's nothing left but an empty lot. Time will tell.

Is there a set of regulations in effect for such a situation, i.e. Main Street construction projects or historic building? If not there seems like there should be. Unfortunately the city has little control over which businesses locate where, such as the adult store on one of the most visible corners in town. Hopefully our free market economy will "regulate" those situations. What happens with the physical building does fall under city rules, and should be closely monitored. How we attend to such details speaks of who we are as a city and how we appear to visitors. We must pay close attention to such details, if we hope to improve.

There is a notice in today's paper that states E. Main St. and Calvert St. will be closed May 2 and May 3 due to demolition of existing Blvd. Theatre.

Great spot for a new development. Why keep expanding outward and letting the city core languish? Lets tear down these eyesores and free up some land that is already commercial.

Things which are still good will be auctioned off at a later date. It'll be sad to see an empty space where many memories were made for me in the 70's. It's like saying bye to an old friend.
