Yesterday I had a meeting at the Market Street Inn and all of a sudden I saw all of these Salisbury Fire Department vehicles pulling into the parking lot. It was then that I thought, I wonder when Chief See will return his vehicle, since he physically stopped working for the City yesterday. I then wondered if he'd do the honorable thing and drop off his vehicle at the end of the day and then I thought, nah, it's not his style, he'll milk it as long as he possibly can.
Today I was running around north Salisbury and on my way home I thought, let me see if Chief See still has our car? Low and behold, there it was parked outside his home. Act like a man Chiefy and bring our car back. We don't need you running around burning our gas and insurance any more. You'll get your pension, isn't that good enough?

Joe, thanks for showing us the real Chief See. You're right, he'll keep that thing until the City realizes its missing and send a tow truck out to get it. Keep an eye on him long enough and you're bound to catch him sucking the gas out of the tank too. Keep up the good work.
If he is getting paid by sick/vacation or personal time, he is still an employee of the city. Growup people!
If is still working , then he should have the car. It is clear that he no longer "works" ,
he should return the vehicle.
As a matter of fact , any and all things belonging to the dept., should be returned asap.
Sorry folks, like it or not, he's still on the City payroll until June 30th.

I don't know how the fire dept works but at the police dept, when you are on vacation/leave, the car gets parked at the police dept.
If he is not working ie: vacation, sick day, whatever... and he is not going to work again; turn the car in!

From what I understand he is using up accrued vacation time and unused sick leave.He is still the official Fire Chief until that time. I believe that it's time to give the Salisbury Fire Dept. a break and find some positive things to say about them. There's a lot of good people there. The new administration in both the mayors office and (soon to be )in the fire chief's office deserve the chance to show what they can do to make some positive changes .
Since I work for the city let me clarify the situation. Even though he may not respond to a single call he is still the Chief. If a call for service went out and he was needed AND COULD NOT RESPOND BECAUSE HE DIDNT HAVE A VEHICHLE the city would be liable. So for a few weeks he gets to keep it. It is far better than a lawsuit.

That fat little little 4 ft tall wanna be man should man up and turn the car in and let someone else use that vehicle. He should NOT be burning taxpayers gas. I don't care what you pinheads say about he's still working for the City, you people will make ANY excuse to make yourselves look better.
Sadly, Chief See has always had the Little Man Syndrome and talks like a tough guy if you challenge him and the last time he did so he got his A$$ kicked and ended up looking like the top end of a circumcision.
A real good decent honorable man would have said thanks but no thanks and turned in his car. He's never going to let go because that's the kind of little p rick that he is and always will be.

As for anonymous 6:35, it is a little home, probably a $79,000.00 home when he bought it, seriously. Remember now, he's divorced, just like Chgief Webster and 1/2 of his pension probably went to his ex-wife as well. The man can't afford much, let me assure you of that. He's got his new redneck pickup truck and I'd bet my garage at my home in Davidsonville/Gambrills was the same size as his entire house. Heck, my Motor Coach is probably pretty close in living quarters size when the slide outs are out.

If he's off work and done working the fire department need that vehicle more than he does. That's abuse just like Bubba with his with his SHA vehicle, total waste of taxpayer dollars.
I got this from Bubba's co-worker. The contractor that was in charge of SSU's underground tunnel at Hardee's on RT. 13, during construction the superintendent of the company demanded SHA remove Bubba from that job or he was pulling out. Seems Bubba was never there. Wonder how many hours he had logged in at that job?

5:39pm, I don't know the Chief or his employment record, but the guy has a nice home and what does it matter what kind of house a guy lives in. Actually, a smaller house is better these days with less to heat/cool, electric and gas bills to pay. Lastly, at least the Chief can afford this size home, unlike most americans who are losing their homes.

I thought I heard it here first and then again on WBOC that the Mayor has named someone as "acting" chief until one is officially found. If that's the case this vehicle should be returned so the "acting" chief can use it. Why have the title if you can't have the toys? As for See still being on payroll...so what. He will not be responding to calls. He reminds me of old man Chief Taylor who was another man known for using his car for anything and everything. I still recall the fire dept car being used to haul beer and ice to his daughter's house warming party. The trunk was loaded with beer. Due to being his neighbor I saw this in person along with other ways he used dept toys. Chief See is going to do the same thing all because he can use the excuse of still being on pay roll. Grow up See...do what a real Chief would do. Go out with your head as high as you can manage to get it.

Didn't the mayor name an acting chief? To me, that means that the previous chief has been replaced. Why would there be a need for the previous chief to be on call? There is no reason for him to remain in this car. The acting chief should have access to the chiefs car that has been outfitted to do the chiefs job. This should be so simple for everybody to understand. Some people will try to rationalize anything,without realizing how stupid it makes them look.

There is nothing wrong with his house and what a stupid thing to even bring up. All the comments are about his actions on the job not the house he lived in or who he has "banged".
He should return the car and get out now. Yes he is using up time he has aquired, but as stated there is an "Acting Chief" and he needs this car.

I have mixed feelings about this one. This guy is on extended leave which will take him right into his retirement. In most circumstances, people with take homes that are on extended leave leave their vehicles at the department/station while on leave. The city has already named an acting chief, so I don't see See responding to any fire calls during this period of extended leave. If he's not going to respond to calls or attend any official meetings while on leave, then it's safe to assume the vehicle will be used for personal use only. In this case, I don't think the city's taxpayers should foot the bill for this guy to ride around town.
On another note, when I retired I did the same thing See is doing. I took two months worth of leave before my effective retirement date. I was, however, the last county employee that was allowed to do that. The reason both See and I did it this way is because instead of simply getting paid or receiving retirement credit for all the unused vacation (paid) and sick pay (credited towards retirement service time), by remaining an active employee during this extended leave, not only is See getting paid, he's also accumulating two more months of leave and two more months of service time towards his retirement. The downside for the city/county is it essentially ties up a employment space until the effective date of retirement. In the case of a high ranking officer in the agency, that could mean tying up several promotions and an opportunity for hiring a new employee. After my retirement the county I retired from mandated that a retiring employee could take no more than two weeks leave prior to his official date of retirement.

Yeah, this is not the first time we have had problems with contractors not wanting to work with Gary Comegys. When they have questions or problems that they need answered, he is supposed to be available. Kinda hard to be available when you are not working on SHA time. We are glad he is "retiring", that is if they let him keep his retirement $$$ that he did not earn.

That home was originaly bought by Shannon and Terry Dykes, remember Cheif Dykes? Shannon is his son and was a great neighbor. I know every inch of it. Im not at all taking up for Cheify but his yard is always in great shape and well cared for. Degrading a person for the size of their house is wrong Joe. Sorry cant stand with you on this one.

If you read my comment in its entirety, you should have had the reasoning to see I have the ability to discern the difference between leave and a vehicle. You should have also read that I came to no definitive conclusion on whether See should retain this vehicle until his effective retirement or not. There are simply too many unanswered questions, i.e. what does his contract say?; will he continue attending meetings during this period of extended leave; is he required to respond to an exceptional fire scene? If the answer is no, then it would seem to me the Chief will not be using that vehicle in any official capacity. Short of there being a contractual clause indicating See can retain the vehicle until his last day, I see no reason why the car should remain at his residence and be utilized by him for personal driving instead of being available for use by employees on official fire department duties. As a manager, he should be able to assess the effective management of available resources within the agency.
Joe, gonna catch Bubba in another lie regarding his "retirement"? Ask him if he's gonna give back his double dippings and unearned retirement.
