What a shame, the food was great, and Kim is the best looking bartender anywhere around.

Back,(way back) in the day when I did venture into the world,(outside of the work carachter) my wife and I always went to watermans. The seafood skins were fantastic. Dont drink ,(the hard stuff anymore) but in the day the screw-drivers at Watermans were translucient, you needed another glass of juice to mix it before drinking. The oysters rock were pretty good too.
what about the watermans in ocean city?
He has an employee who has been there from the beginning. He is a hard worker, church member, dont drink/smoke/drugs faithful employee. If someone is looking for an employee he is available. He would be an asset to any business. His boss would give him an excelent reference, his name is Matthew. It is always a shame to see a business go under..I feel sorry for the employees. They do their best but I guess thats not always enough.
Is it not amazing how Obama trickle up economics are working. We need to bring back Reaganomics before all the private sector is history.

Watermans in West Ocean City has no connection with the one in Salisbury. They are open for business as usual.

Right. Obama is responsible for the close of a restaurant in Salisbury, 100 days after taking office. He is also responsible for your failed education.
I had heard that they had previously been shut down by the health department for various sanitation problems. I assume that this latest event might be the final straw that broke their back. The cleanliness of that restaurant was always sub standard.... In my opinion.

what a shame. another privately owned restaurant closed. all there are around here are franchise eateries. i miss dockside murphy's, the shanty, johnny and sammy's, the hut, NACHO PETE'S... all of them. sad.

Thats too bad for Watermans, They had great drink and good food, but best of all everyone knew everyon else in the bar and everyone got along and had a good time. It was like the Cheers of Salisbury.
They would steam a bushel of crabs for $10! Does anyone know where I can take them now?
I have it from a very reliable source that Waterman's in Salisbury is in foreclosure and THAT is the reason they are closed.
I guess Old Mill Crabhouse will be next....

There are a lot of businesses that have been hanging on for a long time now, you cant hang on forever. I fear we have not seen the worst that this economic disaster has to offer. I personally dont think we have seen anything yet. It scares the hell out of me.
If Old Mill continues to steam dead crabs like the ones I got last week they won't be in business long. You can tell its under new ownership! If ur gonna get in the seafood biz, learn to steam a crab!

But back to Waterman's and Obama: In this universe Muslims don't eat shell fish; Watermans'served some of the finest. Now, Obama is president of the U.S. and Waterman's has shut down and thus can no longer sell shell fish, hmmmmmmm........How many more restaurants who sell clams, oysters, shrimp and lobster will shut down while this man is president?

any commercial kitchen appears "dirty" to someone who dont work in one. There are spills, dropped food on the floors, pots/pans to be washed. If you walk into a commercial kitchen and it is spotless it has probally just been steamed cleaned and everything put away...if it stays that way all day there is NO business BUT there is a clean kitchen...If the kitchen was "dirty" the health department would have said so...they did not...they were written up because of equipment not working...big difference. There are several locally owned restaurants in salisbury and are members of LORA...locally owned restaurant association..support them and maybe we can hang on to the local people.

This is a partial list of local restaurants. Please support them. It keeps our hard earned money here in this area not in coperate headquarters.

Watermen's Cove opened in 1986 and I was the first chef there and worked there until 1996. Over the last 8 years or so the owner has had a lot of health problems, that may have led to foreclosure.
There you go Tom and John Knoor, the kitchen does need a complete renovation, what high volume kitchen wouldn't after 23 years? If anyone can return the restaurant to it's glory the Knoors can do it.
I know when I managed there everything was spic and span. It doesn't really matter if you have a brand new restaurant if you have employees with poor personal hygene you have a nasty restaurant.
Many of the employees that were working there started there as dishwashers, busboys or busgirls and had moved up over the years to top positions.

I loved Watermens for a long time! I am sorry I was not there for the closing. A lot of the staff was there for numerous years. I am sure this is not the last restaurant that will be affecting by the economy.
Years ago was my last time there. My wife and I both had the same steamed seafood entree....and both become violently ill with food poisioning about five hours later. Have not been there since. This was long ago though, some time before we moved in 1992.
I will never forget the cock roach and half frozen shrimp that I encountered there about 6 months ago, right on my table in the bar area, have not been back since, it used to be really a nice restaurant.
You can ask the health department, if you got violently ill it was most likely not from something you ate 5 hours ago. Most times it's from 12 to 24 hours.
Food bourne illness is a virus, parasite, mold, fungi or bacteria. Like the flu, you don't get sick from it 5 hours after you've been exposed.
In thirty years I've had the Health Department come to me with one claim of food bourne illness. Mary Murray came to see me, did an inspection, asked me a few questions and determined that the symtoms that those folks discribed could NOT have come from our establishment.
I like the ones that say they got food poisoning, those 13 beers and 4 shots of liquor didn't have a thing to do with it LMAO!

Dead cooked seafood (Clams - Oysters) puts off a pungent ammonia odor. Shrimp is recieved dead/frozen and we went threw so much shrimp there that was impossible. Sometimes we had to thaw it out while we were going.
I was the chef there in 1992 and you must be the only two people to make that claim in my lifetime. You can read the Health Department's decision of your claims and the determination above.
Old Mill Crabhouse is opening a place in Ocean City. The Dough Roller at 125 street.
Three of the most common shellfish toxins:
1) Paralytic shellfish poisoning - symtoms - Numbness, tingling of the mouth, face, arms and legs, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
2) Neurotoxic shellfish poisoning - symptoms - Tingling and numbness of the lips, tongue and throat, dizziness, reversal of hot and cold sensations, vomiting and diarrhea.
3) Amnesic shellfish poisoning - symptoms - vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, confusion, memory loss, disorientation, seizure, coma.
The first is obvious it leaves you with partial paralysis.
All three exhibit Neurological symtoms.
There's a lot more to HACCP (Hazzard Analysis and Critical Control Points) than just vomiting and diarrhea. The other symptoms are what helps determining the cause.
Tim!!!! I worked at Waterman's in highschool from 1992-1994. I started as a busgirl and moved up to working in the carry-out. I had the best time in that place. Remember Frank the dishwasher??!! Good times! I didn't realize this was the same Tim! I am so very sad this place has closed. I have memories from there that make me smile everytime I pass by!! Such great people..."Bubba, Char.." we love you guys!!
My parents were like regulars there when we were little...this is just too sad. It's been a fabulous local hang out for so long...."Cheers" has closed!

I have many fond memories Brandi, the late night card games at Jason's pad, beer marathons. We even had fun tearing the kitchen down to clean everything, get half the cleaning done and break out the beer!
Gawd I'm 51 years old now, gray hair and everything. The young'uns there kept me young at heart and mind, some of the best times of my life : )
The Old Mill does not steam dead crabs as evident by the bushels on the back dock of dead crabs waiting for the supplier to take back....but good try Red Roost Regular. The crowds at Old Mill have been rockin' & they are opening a 2nd place in Ocean City very soon. They are not going anywhere anytime soon. It would be turning tooooooo many people away to close. Some of the weekday crowds in the parking lots are just as large as the weekend crowds.
Tim!!! You can't be 51! That would make me give my real age....LOL! Aaahhh Jason's parties were rockin and the "cleaning days" were too much fun to be considered work!! Remember Halloween when I wore the Santa's Helper outfit and 3 inch heels? Frank dropped everything that night!! You guys helped make memories that will keep me smiling when I'm old and gray. I also earned my dues and went on to make alot of good money waitressing and bartending with the great people skills learned there. I miss those easy going times....I'll really miss going in there to soak in the glory days of that place! FYI: I still talk about your steak and shrimp platters!! yummmmmmmm
