Sixteen Wicomico County Destination ImagiNation teams performed so well in Saturday's DI Eastern Region Tournament involving 51 Shore teams that they will advance to the state competition, with hopes of achieving well again and advancing to Global Finals
Salisbury Middle had six teams qualify for the state contest, while Westside Intermediate will send three teams, and Pemberton Elementary and Mardela Middle and High will each have two teams in the state competition. Pinehurst Elementary, Bennett Middle and James M. Bennett High will also be represented.
The Wicomico County winning teams that will go to the Maryland State DI Tournament on Sat., Apr. 18, at Towson University are:

If you ever want to feel like your head will explode because the music is soooooo loud and be amazed that all the kids are in their seats (sort of-they jump and scream whenever their team is on the big screen)then you'll attend a DI ceremony. These kids have a lot of fun and do a great job with school spirit and teamwork. My daughter is the Mardela Detonating DIalogues-they did an awesome job-ANYmouse
On the third place comment: DI Investigators from Salisbury Middle placed third behind St. Michaels and St. Francis. In order to have a Wicomico public school team represented in that category at states, third place was included. I'm not sure why it couldn't have just been the top two teams though. The other third place going is also from Salisbury Middle.

Yes, St. Francis placed second in the category and St. Michaels placed first. The only reason Salisbury Middle has a team going to states in that category is that third place was included so Wicomico public schools would have an entry.

How many teams that go to the state competition is determined by how many competed at the regionals within that challenge. Therefore, if there are more teams, they will allow teams that placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd to compete at the state level. But if there are less, only 1st and 2nd place moves to the next level.
2:48: I'm not sure where you got your information, but it's incorrect. The State DI organization determines the # of teams going to the state tourney for each level. There are three middle school teams going for each challenge. It was 1, 2, & 3rd place for most challenges, however with a tie it was 1st place and the two 2nd place teams in another. The Wicomico Board of Ed has no governance over DI, it's run by volunteers (many are teachers, but the BOE has no say over DI).
What bothers me about your post isn't the incorrect information, anyone can be guilty of ignorance from time to time. The troubling part is what's said between the lines...like you believe this is some Wicomico schools conspiracy. That's really deflating to all the hard work and effort given by the hundreds of students in preparation for the competition. Can't we just be happy for and proud of them? Why do some always have to look for some school system/gov't intrusion, even when it's not there?

You are correct that DI is supposed to be volunteer and lots of the people involved are not paid. But the Wico Board of Ed spends thousands for teachers to work with the kids and pays for a coordinator and funds memberships so if you think the Board has no governance and spends no money on DI you are the one who's ignorant.
Come on people, give it a rest! Isn't this about all the hard work and creativity every kid and team manager put into DI. They are all winners! These students are the hope for the future. Lets cheer them and may God Bless them everyone!
