Mayoral Candidate Gary Comegys and Mayor Barrie Tilghman supported funding $2.5 million into Steel Bulkheading and additional work to their dream project, the North Prong.
It was one thing to build the Fire Palace during the most expensive time in American History, but it had to be built before ANYONE caught on to the "could be's."
Like I have said in the past, I lived directly on the Assawoman Bay in West Ocean City where the currents are just unbelievable. Bulkheading is an absolute necessity. However, not only is this on a river, it's by far the calmest portion of the Wicomico River and DOES NOT need steel bulkheading.
2 years from now I'll bet Gary Comegys, (still City Council Member) will blame this overspending once again on Blogger Joe Albero. So let it be known on the record that Joe Albero thinks the Citizens of Salisbury have been BONED again! Just like they got BONED at all the rip rap on the river near the City Park and Zoo.
You better start listening people. Jim Ireton will have individuals like me to turn to when they get bids and I'll say, Hell No, you don't spend $90,000.00 to repair an elevator! Hell No, you don't spend $2.5 million on steel bulkheading, etc.,, etc., etc! For once citizens will be able to share their professional background and experience and let the new Mayor know what's right from wrong and the new Mayor Jim Ireton will at least listen. He'll place people on Boards that have wisdom and experience and do everything possible to stop this wasteful spending. It has to end Ladies & Gentlemen, it really does. This bulkheading project is a joke.

Looks like Comegys is having a press conference or something at noon...
How much do you want to bet it has something to do with the River?
Nope, looks like campaign stuff. Love his parking job, too!
joe albero for mayor!
having the job that gary comegys has! i would kinda think that he should know better than to think salisbury needs a steel bulkhead on the north prong! is he really that SIMPLE?
Where's the money coming from? What city account? Was it in the budget?
So, anyone got the goods on Bubba's press conference? Where did he have it? What's it about? Who bothered to show up?
anyone know what the press conference was about?
That bulkheading is paid for by...
DEBT!
Bubba's got a headline on the DT that says he "challenges" Ireton to address the issues. That's all Ireton has been doing is focusing on the issues facing this City. I laughed out loud when I read that headline. Well Bubba, you want to address the issues, hold onto your pants, cus it's comin'!
There is so much old riprap and bulkheading in some parts of the river that steel bulkheading may be the only way to deal with it. Trying to remove the old stuff could be like opening a can of worms. Also wood needs to be held back by supports that run about 8'-10' inland. This could also be a reson to use steel.
Also, isn't the river a Federal waterway up there also? I bet the Feds have alot more to do with the job specs than Salisbury City.
$2,500,000, they could build a new station 2 with half that money. Then maybe the vollies wouldn't have to wear hardhats when entering/exiting the building to avoid the falling bricks. It's called rip rap and wouldn't cost a third of that and would be just as effective. Yet they continue to be economically irresponsible.....
When it comes to prongs barry spends whatever it takes.
