Seriously, the general public knows full well the waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayers funds in the Gordy/See fire department.

Not a lover or hater of Joe but I do believe he appreciates the efforts and needs of the fire and police companies, If you think that another outlandish expense paid for by my tax dollars are needed (note most of these are from the Comegys thing) Then you pay for them, pull your head out of your butt and pay for your toys yourself, I hate seeing my money pissed away

But really, I'm sure that DHS also wants a boat for use in the bay. If a freighter catches fire, or if there is a major fire anywhere nearby where there is more water than road, this could be a lifesaver.
As for the cost, $800k is really not all that much. Not much at all. Go over to Annapolis, and you'll see many dozens of boats that are more expensive than that.
Let me ask you this. Where is the nearest comparable fire boat? Why isn't that a real concern?

Who gives a flying F### where the nearest boat is. You just don't get it. Joe already explained why there is no need for a boat in Salisbury. $800,000 really isn't much, really. REALLY??? Then you pay it dumb @$$.

It was stated at the meeting last night that the trip out to the bay is an hour and a half, plus the time you have to get to the freighter. By that time, it sank, and you are picking up passengers, if other more nearby boats that didn't have to suffer the 1.5 hour trip haven't done all the major rescue.

If DHS is footing the bill for the boat, then don't we have an obligation to the public at large? I'm sure part of the justification for funding at the Federal level is that this will be a coastal resource.
...and the days when firefighters can just look at an emergency or a fire they could easily put out and say "not ours" or "didn't pay fee" are OVER.

How many boat fires have been put out on the river in the Salisbury F.D. area in the last say...5 years? This doesn't count those that are docked.
11:08, we don't. That's why I'm against a Salisbury fire boat. Read my post again, I thought I was demonstrating that a fire boat here would be no use in the bay since it takes 1.5 hours just to get there.
I guess i really dont much about it. Does Ocean City maryland have one. they have million dollar homes in the hundreds on the water. I am just asking. if so how much has it been used. I see a resue boat maybe in Salisbury lets face it if a boat is burning and the mandated fire exst. does not do the trick then I would think you are S.O.L. anyway by the time you guys would make it there. We dont have the Queen Eliz going up and down our river. Just drive the beast there the ladder should reach.
If someone where to offer me a house I couldn't afford to heat and maintain why should I take it?
We couldn't even afford the $10,000,000 comfort station, thus a lease. Who's money will be used to fill the boat's tank up with gas and keep up the maintainence?
I bet a fillup alone would cost over $500 a pop. Then they would need a boathouse to allow maintainence on a rainy day.
Well I fish on the river and in bay alot and can tell you this is truly a waste of money!!!!! by the time it makes it to the bay what ever is on fire will be over, I have left from salisbury many times and went to the bay takes me about 2 hours and i DONT HAVE A SMALL BOAT!! plus frist time some ding berry flys past the ferry and catches the cable it will be bye bye boat so do us all a favor let it go spend the money on fixing streets fighting crime so our kids and familys are safe!!!!!!! one other reason not to have it!! because you could not even tie up the boat you had right and when it took on water because you didnt leave bilge pump running it sank!!!!!Get real bottom line what a BIG joke!!! at our cost !!!!!!
What next? Let's get a Fire Airplane? Wow now that would be the ultimate toy!
