The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will host a Mayoral-City Council Candidates forum today (Feb. 12). The program will begin at 7 PM and last approximately 90 minutes. Orville Penn will moderate.
The event will be held at the First Baptist Church, on the corner of Delaware Avenue and Booth Street in Salisbury.

joe - have you seen the sample ballot for the upcoming election? Seems odd that we can vote for no more than two candidates for mayor when there is only one seat open. I would think we each vote for one person and the top two vote getters will then advance. I've never heard of you being able to vote for two people for one seat...we didn't do that in the presidential election...does salisbury make this stuff up as they go along? Should we question this with the Wico County Bd of Elections????
And the racism emerges once again, nice job 10:56. Unless, of course, by "they" you mean the American people 53% of whom voted for Obama. A higher percentage, by the way, than Ronald Reagan got in his first election. That probably just eats you up inside.

You'll never advance colored people as a whole as long as your culture revolves around rap music, thugs, and gangbangers as your kids idols. This is a pointless meeting i wonder what they talk about?????
It's about quality leadership not color. I am glad that he NAACP has organized a forum. I will be there. It is important that voters are informed on issues. Forums allow that to happen. It takes plenty of hard work to put one of these together. Thank you NAACP and others who are hosting such events.

It is only your ignorance that makes you believe all of African American culture revolves around rap music and thugs--as Obama has shown, it also has to do with going to Harvard Law School, raising two awesome kids, and having a successful marriage to a really smart woman. Gee, that sounds really awful, I hope that apsect of African American culture doesn't spread to white folks like me.

Joe, please share with your readers that today is not only Abraham Lincoln's birthday, it is also the 100th anniversary of the NAACP.
There are many white members of NAACP.
NAACP does not promote just the advancement of black people, but also has many times taken up issues for Hispanics, Asians, American Indians.
Anyone thinking things are equal today needs to look at the stats on income and mortality rates, to name a few. Advancing people of color so they don't raise kids in poverty and die early is not anti-white. In fact, it's good for everyone to have fully productive, healthy people...better economy, less crime, better health care costs, etc.
And Barack Obama didn't win because of the black vote. He won because of the black and white and Hispanic and Asian and ... vote.
So sad to see your readers so hateful, Joe. You say some pretty outlandish things, but I believe you're basically a good egg.
