Wow! An IOU for a tax refund! Do you think we're next?

Check this out.

What are the chances that we're in line for the same treatment? What's this? The Federal Govt. giveth (stimulus checks) and the State taketh away? I've known people who have intentionally overpaid state and federal taxes so that they would have a phat refund due them at the end of the year and I've always said "why not put it in the bank where it would gain interest?" Why let the govt. use your money for free? I'll bet the people who have done that in California in the past will think twice before they do it again.

You already are in line to be next. It was reported last week that MD's legislature is considering spending reserve fund set aside for tax refunds to balance the budget.

As for stimulus by the Feds, I got 2 letters hyping the forthcoming check only to get a 3rd informing me that they applied it towards my 2007 taxes that are on an installment plan. Good think I didn't spend the money in advance. Also, I'm being charge BOTH interest and penalty not like that Bozo that's been selected to run the Treasury who only must pay interest (for multiple years of back taxes).

Nothing new here. They did this exact same thing several years ago, when they ran out of money.

Am I the only one who thinks there may be a conflict of interest here? The owner of a company partnering with Hard Rock Cafe for a slots license in MD is the Treasurer of the state Democratic Party. Smells bad to me!

With slots and the Federal Stimulus of $800 billion plus, we should all be throwing $100 bills in the air and making it "rain," like Packman Jones in a strip club! Of course the friends of those in power will really be the ones who benefit from slots.

I think that this is fair warning. It is time to understand that "we" are the government, and anything that usurps that is not. All the smoke and mirrors that are being shown today are a precedent to the more complicated ones they will show tomorrow. Make today's screw ups accountable and keep up with the tax track. We should all be able to ask our senators and house representatives what our dollars are spent on, but how many of us actually ask? We need to ask, and get answers, and if we do not, it will be time for a revolution that none of us wants, but will need.
Please write tour congressmen and your senators, because without your input, they must vote with the way they have been swayed.
And if the way they have been swayed was a PAC, then you have lost your edge.
Set aside Saturday morning first hour to do this ome thing for yourself.

Tax time again...the various commercials on TV touting "instant refunds" are everywhere.Once you hit the 40k mark, you do not get all those warm & fuzzy windfall refunds anymore....the lower middle class need more tax breaks!

Hey, 9:55,

Here's your answer. It is left up to you to get bright and stand up for yourself. No, I will not do it for you any more than I would shop up your groceries and bring them to your house. There's a root problem here that carries a mood that someone else will carry one's weight in this country, and that is not the base this country was built on. You are responsible for speaking up for yourself; I can not and will not do that for you. Our Representatives want to receive input from each and every one of us individually to be able to understand each aspect of a problem and how it affects different people in different situations, and to be assured that he is actually representing the majority. A single idea copied and pasted by thousands serves him as if one person's agenda was copied and pasted by one person, and will be treated accordingly.
It's time to stand on your own two feet.
