Local developer, Hard Rock in partnership to secure slots license

A politically connected Baltimore developer has teamed up with Hard Rock International to bid on one of five Maryland slot-machine licenses, the Orlando-based restaurant and casino operator announced Monday.
Hard Rock, which runs more than 120 cafe restaurants and several hotels and casinos around the world, has signed an exclusivity agreement with Baltimore's Banks Contracting Co. Inc., owned by Kenneth R. Banks, who is also treasurer of the state Democratic Party.

That's for Baltimore. The fight down here is over Ocean Downs vs next to Home Depot on Rt 50.
It will come here soon, 67% going to the state, that's a concern. When will the state want 67% of my profits after license fees, Business liability, workmen's comp, fica, state and local taxes. Who will be running this business; me or the state? Might as well kill me now.

I thought we all voted that the slots were going to go at the racetracks. At least that is how I understood it. I guess they are changing it again. Why am I not surprised
The real story here as I posted on another story is that the local developer is the treasurer of the state Democratic Party. This smells of those in power rewarding their own, if they get the license. Be on the lookout for this kind of stuff happening, especially when the the $800 billion federal stimulus gets handed out. All the friends of the MD Democrats will get the bids for contruction projects. The bidding process will be a sham. There will be serious corruption and waste of the slots money. I'm interested to see just how much money from slots really goes toward education.
