WHO CALLED A SALISBURY COUNCIL MEETING FOR TUESDAY MORNING?

It’s for real folks – some genius has scheduled a work session of the Salisbury City Council on very short notice for 9 AM to Noon on the United States Presidential Inauguration Day, January 20. The meeting will clearly conflict with the main events – the swearing-in ceremony (which starts at 11:30) and inaugural address and of course the earlier events on Tuesday morning. The major networks begin their coverage at 10 AM or earlier.

This is insulting to both those who would like to watch the inaugural proceedings and also to President Obama as well.

Louise Smith should exercise real leadership for a change and cancel the work session.

But, don’t hold your breath.

It IS insulting.

So it is insulting to schedule a Council meeting, but not to encourage parents to keep kids at home to avoid viewing the innauguration and wearing red, white and blue.
Though I agree that it is an insult, I don't think

Well, the county council's meeting is tomorrow also. Haven't heard they have postponed it.

11:45 --

There's a huge difference about the action of a parent, regarding his/her child(ren), and the act of an elected official.

It is interesting that the swearing-in of the new Delaware governor has been scheduled (at his request) so as not to conflict with the presidential inauguration.

Sure, 2 wrongs make a right.

BTW -- that's another reason to reschedule the work session (the County Council meeting is at least on the "regular" date and not a special one.

Mr./Ms. 11:56 -

The county meeting would normally be on that date and was scheduled long before then, but the city work session was recently scheduled for tomorrow morning, and it appears to be deliberate because the normal time to begin a work session is 4:30 PM.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree, I was just offering the fact that the county council will be in session tomorrow. Did anyone think about postponing it?

Joe, when are you going to realize that you live in one of the most racist counties in the United States?

Joe:

Wanna bet that Barrie would have declared a city holiday tomorrow if Hillary were being inaugurated?

Some idiot always has to bring race into it. No my friend you are the racist.

Ridiculous. Cancel the meeting.

I don't remember all this fuss over the GWB inauguration. Racism at it's finest.

Joe:

Because of the items on the agenda for the work session tomorrow, Lou-weasel and Bubba wanted to avoid public awareness to the greatest extent possible.

BTW: That's their idea of "transparency".

Wicomico and surrounding countries have an underbelly of racism that rivals any other. It took this election to bring that smoldering pot to a boil. Hey folks, it just skin color...it won't rub off on you and soil your lilly whites.

It's not the color of your skin but the way people act that makes others not want to be around them. The term racist seems only to apply to white males but I think after this election we can add the black church as well.

Bush's election was not historic in the sense Obama's is. Whether you like it or not, even Dick Cheney has acknowledged the historical significance of this, for crying out loud.

But more than that, Bush did not come into his first term with war raging on 2 fronts and an economic disaster taking its toll worldwide. The words Obama speaks at his inauguration will be listened to in unprecedented numbers. (And I sure hope he says all the right ones!)

This isn't just about Obama. It's about how far we've come as a country, and how much we need to recover as a country. This is about the time we are in, and it's a scary one.

Bush did come into office in the Clinton recession with a decimated military which led to 9/11 of course that was after we were attacked three times by terrorist.

The absurdity is that someone -- apparently Louise Smith -- would schedule a special meeting at that time. The County Council meeting was scheduled per its normal meeting plan.

And that has nothing to due with it being Obama's inaugural rather than W's.

Louise Smith should cancel the meeting.

You must realize that Louise's t.v. set has broken and there is a big flat screen set right there that Im sure will be tuned in to AGA Obamas' incursionment of our government.

I wonder whos going to bring the "suds" and "chips" ?

Watch and see if there isnt another meeting held at the same time Pitts. whips up on the Arizona !

Again they'er be awatchin . Or it may be a ploy to not to have to go and fight the crowds in person. There must be some kind of underlining reason?
