PLEASE READ PARENTS

"My child who goes to Pittsville Elementary & Middle School just came home with an interesting study sheet they were tested on the past two days. It goes into detail about this 'historical event' (their words) of BHO being the first black President, how noteworthy it was that a black man is being sworn in the day after King's birthday, how significant it is that it will include the Lincoln Memorial and how the theme will be 'A New Birth of Freedom'!

Yes, they've studied and been tested on this twice ALREADY this week. This should give everyone a hint of what awaits the kids in school next Tuesday!"

It is historical. It is amazing. I am a republican, and am proud to be alive at such a momentous occasion. Get over it and be proud to be American!

i don't see what's so wrong with them celebrating his inauguration. it IS historical. This country (or most of us) has worked hard to achieve this kind of equality. My son is only 2 and not in school but if he were he would dress as patriotically as i possibly could dress him and he would know how momentus this occasion is and how lucky we are to see a black man elected into office in our lifetime!

GIVE IT A REST JOE! Like a friggin broken record. You are such a crybaby!

Let the kids be taught something!
Unless you are in the classroom teaching, then you have to deal with this historical event!

Sounds GREAT to me! This is just what the young generation needs!! Thanks for posting!!!

A concerned parent gave a copy of the letter to Parents from the Principal of Buckingham Elementary directly to a member of the Worcester County Board of Education. The Board member had NO idea that it had been sent out, and did not appear to be very happy about it.

And here we thought the problem was only in Wicomico County Schools.

It is sickkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It couldn't have been said better as it was said earlier. "Wicomico Liberal/Secular Indoctrination Centers". That is what our school system has turned into. Bias Bias Bias. Get used to it because the racism against the white man is about to get worse.

The activities are fine, but teachers have sense enough to do their jobs as with every previous inauguration without having to give Ms. Handy their lesson plans and be "checked up on" by central office personnel. Many in supervisory positions were not strong teachers; what they have to offer children and teachers is nothing.

How can people deny that this is an historical event? Seriously, folks, it is a celebration of the greatness of American representative democracy, and a celebration of how far we have come in the last 50 years! Please, please, please, don't try to turn this into something negative. I encourage everyone to watch, it is going to be a really beautiful event even if you didn't vote for the guy. If an African American Republican was being sworn in, it would be just as historic. So please set aside partisanship for one day and acknowledge that this truly is an historic day for all of us! There's enough negativity going around, why bring more of it?

History is somehow made, every day in this country. The excuse, that this is historical is just that-an excuse.

Would they have done anything for Sarah Palin being the first woman Vice President? Just a thought.

President Clinton made history. He was the first ELECTED US president to be impeached. Anybody remember their children seeing that HISTORICAL event on TV in school?

Anonymous said...

As a former high school English teacher, I need to remind everyone that the correct usage is "historic event," not "historical." Casual bloggers can be forgiven, but for a school to write this way is very troubling. Also, that amateur Salisbury historian (who contributes the Saturday articles) needs to take note as well.

Anon 454, thanks for the info.
I going to be watching and counting how many times the new president says "ahhhh" during his inaugural speech.

Kym, Kym, Kym this is not amazing this is terrible, my kids will remember the day because we may be riding four wheelers on our property, target shooting and doing eastern shore type things, we may even bury our heads in the "eastern shore sand" as it was put this morning. They will remember spending the day with their dad, riding four wheelers, playing hookie from school because they were or would have had to eat a liberal, force fed shit sandwich and watch something that is about as amazing as both of their first craps!!!!My kids won't have anything to do with mess, I don't do force feeding well. my wife is a teacher and I know for a fact that this is mandated and not suggested. 4:37 get a tissue and dry your tears! This is terrible, I repeat, THIS IS TERRIBLE!

It wouldn't be such a big deal if they did this for every president but they have not. I think that is the biggest issue here.

Ya know, maybe the red spined libs have a point about watching this mess.

sort of like why we watch NASCAR.

Might get to see a crash...or two...on turn 4

And ya know all those hippies are gonna do something stupid...that'll be fun to watch too.

Heck, if we're lucky, maybe they'll smoke doobies and start taking their tye-dyed smocks off.

If we're really lucky, the Mare will be the first one to disrobe and show us those massive bags of luv.

As a VETERAN of the RIOTS OF 1968 that occurred in Washington, Baltimore, and Cambridge (Salisbury too?), I spent 2 miserable weeks living on the hard floor of a National Guard Armory while I served to help bring order the the lawlessness that followed MLK's killing.
Ask around to see who even knows what these riots were.

The children need to be taught history but they should be taught all of it. Obama's election was significant. MLK's killing was significant. Everything to do with slavery was significant.

I watched inner city people burning down Garmit Cleaners that contained THEIR clothes. I watched inner city people tossing loaves of lunch meat at passing motorists. It was S T U P I D. A few weeks later, the residents were complaining that they had no source of food. A few years later, they complained that the cities had no merchants to serve them. That is what's become of a lot of cities like Salisbury.

I say teach A L L the history both good and bad so the youth grow up understanding how behavior can improve or decrease their lifestyle and their relationship with their peers. Don't just teach the kids "something" like 4:08 states. Teach them EVERYTHING.

I will bet that many of the people that take Joe's comments as perhaps bordering on racism never heard of the 1968 Race Riots.

i tell you all something, i sure as hell wish i could speed the clock up for this one so it can hurry up and be over with. he is just a man just like all the rest who have stood up there before. but the mess he is being handed i hope he brings with him some of the good drugs the govenor of chicago is on because he is gonna need them

First and foremost, many children who will be watching the "historic event" will have absolutely no clue as to what Obama is even talking about and will not care one bit about it. Most children are not interested in government and politics and will resent it even more if they are forced to take quizzes on it. The entire thing has aroused so much tension in schools and our children DO sense that! EVERYONE needs to take a step back and think about what we are forcing our children to learn and is it right to instill these political opinions on them?! I think not! Yes, it is someone's opinion that this is "historic" and that our children should be exposed to it, but what about their young opinions?!

Anybody catch the theme “A New birth of freedom” I didn’t know it was lost. Oh and before anybody starts with George Bush trashed the constitution. Keep in mind Hillary Clinton answered questions today to become the next Secretary of State. What’s the problem? She is still a senator. Remember that part in the constitution that says no sitting senator shall be appointed to a cabinet position. Did the schools teach how the most important document in our nation’s history was just violated?
Back onto a new Birth of freedom. We aren’t free. We live in the biggest communist country on the face of the earth. The new deal sealed that. Think about that next 4th of July when you are waving flags. Just how self sufficient are you? Not at all government has programs cradle-to-grave.

Does government give you health care? Does government make sure your job is guaranteed?

Does government cover your child care cost? (And I do include that government run baby sitting service known as the public schools in child care cost)

You aren't going to make me pay taxes, are you? How about all those evil rich people? Aren't you going to take some of their money away from them and give it to me? After all ... I work for my money; they cheated and stole for theirs. Make them pay their fair share of taxes. Me? I'm tired of paying any share.

Yep Barack Obama sure will make sure we have a rebirth of freedom.

The kicker here is he is NOT the first BLACK President. He is BI-RACIAL, just as white as black DNA-wise. He has disowned his white heritige, but that doesn'tmake it not exist.

Anonymous said...

My child WILL NOT be dressing any differently than any other day! This was never done for any other president in our great nation. So why start now? And I don't quite see how this will be a historic event....he's not black...he's mixed.

I just have one more question...if you're half black and half white does that make you a whack? Because if you ask me this whole ordeal that they are making the kids do is pretty whacky to me.

Anonymous said...

Obama is Whack!! I love that!!

BRILLIANT!

According to our founding fathers, Obama is BLACK, at least plenty black enough to have been a slave. According to Thomas Jefferson, when asked when a mixture of black and white might constitute a free white person, Jefferson wrote that if a person was no more than 1/16 black and could pass for white that was the cut off line.
So, the election of a half black person is by any standard a huge, monumental, almost unbelievable advancement of the ideal expressed in Declaration of Independence that "all men are created equal."
This is not an endorsement of Mr. Obama, I voted for McCain, but I will give Mr. Obama a chance, before declaring him a good or bad president. As long as he is in office I would be ashamed if I were to be so low as to refer to Mr. Obama as anything other than Mr. President. Being a patriotic American means being LOYAL opposition when the other side wins.

As a republican who listend to President Bush speak for 8 years, I don't think I'll criticize how many times the new president say "ahhhh!"

By the school making the children watch this "historical" event , they are promoting racism. They are incinuating a seperation of this man from all other presidents.

Unity ? Yeah your right! How can our teachers be so uneducated ? Are they just following orders?

I cannot beleive "anyone" isnt smart enough to see the racial implication being spread here. What happens if this "black" man fails our country ? Will it be because he is half "white" ?

I bet the "blacks" will say this.

It should of been billed in a different light. Leave race out of the equation. Stupid stupid people. It is like taking a 100 year leap backwards.

But this is part of why he won in the first place isnt it ? There will never truely be equality among the races as long as one is being seperated. No matter what the reason for this seperation.

This is the worst case of showing prejudice right infront of a races own nose that I can remember.

Im just waiting for the punch line. Oh I got it , keep America focussed on racism while we rob them into bankruptcy . HaHaHa very not funny. I wonder who is really behind all this crap?

And I wonder what obama and his family is going to show up wearing ? Some afican tribal head dress. Buck naked with beads and feathers ? ( thats sarcasm for those to dense to get it)

He is just a man from chicago to distract us from the corruption from which he came. And you should be afraid, be very afraid of that which you have been mis-led to follow.

Does anyone remember that day in school when JFK was killed? Does anyone remember having to dress any particular way or taking quizes? I remember the day they laid him to rest, we had a moment of silence in our class room and then it was back to our studies. This was Monday November 25, 1963 This was an historic day. JFK was the youngest person ever to be elected POTUS. There was no special day in school for this event.

America has a long white history with an abundance of credit given to men and women in powerful jobs, inventers, etc. with the blacks credited mainly in the entertainment and sports world. It is time we see some color heading up companies, judges, congressmen, sheriffs, local mayors, superintendents, board of Education members, firemen, policemen, etc. Our economy might improve with more black Americans holding honest and respectable jobs.At least respect and honesty would be brought back to these jobs. I am tired of hearing about how our prisons are filled mostly minorities. The percentage of prisoners should reflect the population racial percentage. If a state has 38 % black citizens, then no more than 38 % prisoners should be black. More proactive measures and financial assistance by the dominant white race could make this a reality.

Some of you ignorant people need to get a life. The United States will no longer be run by statements saying,"that's how it used to be." This is the 21 st century and the Great Awakening will begin on January 20 th. A time of change is here in the lives of the people of color. We think it is amusing to read about all the complaints and big talk. This does not change one thing. The people in power dictate what you will do and how your schools, city governments, and your life will be. Enough said as you reflect on my wisdom. So why waste your time on this blog. Go watch TV or have some fun.

The theme, "A New Birth of Freedom" is taken from a line delivered by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Adress. Just as Lincoln hoped to bring the country back together after the Civil War, it is the hope of Obama to bring our country back together. We should work together to better our country and no longer let politics divide our country.

By the way, I'm a teacher and the students in my elementary school are interested in the Inauguration and Barack Obama. This is a moment that future students will read about in history books. We should encourage our children to watch this in the schools. I know we will be watching it at my school.

BTW - I didn't vote for Obama, but I will be watching - and not because I've been told to do so.

All I can say is "only on the Eastern Shore"! To call a bi-racial person "whack" is so insensitive. I'm sure some of you would be very surprised if you traced your family tree. Let's see who you might be calling "whack" then (a grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, etc.)!!!!!

Some of you are so afraid of the "change". The Eastern Shore needs a change.

Deacon, Deacon, Deacon...you seem to get dumber with every comment you make!! I suppose the percentage of blacks in a state should equal the percentage in the prisons IF they didn't commit a majority of the crimes!!

Look at the worst areas crime-wise in the U.S., who lives there?
The most damgerous schools?
The most dangerous neighborhoods?
The worst areas for murder? rape? drugs? theft? and on and on.

It's a common theme in all these scenarios and whites didn't cause it, YOU did! You've been GIVEN every chance for success, GIVEN way too much and you still bring down the majority of areas you go to.

It's hilarious for you to thing a black man in the white house will GIVE you more opportunities, when do YOU get off your collective a**es and get out and earn something instead of waiting for handouts??

Anonymous said...

Just remember deacon, the difference between me and you.
I work while you need handouts and affirmative action!

Enough said.

Actually he is being sworn in five days after MLK's birthday. Monday is merely the observance of his birthday not his actual birthday which is on the 15th of January ( I should know, since it is my birthday too). Perhaps the schools should do a little fact checking before they write up tests.

Anonymous said...

Why is it that some folks like the deacon refuse to believe that blacks can't make it on their own without "financial assistance by the dominant white race?"
They make it sound like the blacks aren't capable of anything and need handouts and social programs to survive.

Deacon 1:41 comment,
I own a business, I am often asked, "Why don't you have any black people working for you" I always answer, "they dont come in and fill out applications". I have had blacks any frankly one of my most talented employees was black. Along with that came three or four women always calling wanting to attach his wages for children thought to be his. Lack of transportation etc...Absenses on Mondays after football games on Sunday etc...How can you say that the number of people in prisons should be based on population percentages. The fact that they aren't working (not saying all)and hanging out all day is the direct connection to the prison population percentages. We can't tell a drug dealer or a dead beat dad, not paying child support for his kids that, "today is your lucky day, we can't lock you up because there is already 38% blacks in the current prison population, so please behave, and take these drugs with you and throw them away please" But hey you white guy (arrested for the same things) "today is your unlucky day, we only have 20% of your kind so lets go to prison young man.

What an idiot!

Some people just dont get it. This has nothing to do with BO being the firt black President of America. For better of worse, this country will have to tolerate 4 years of him. The point of this article is that BO is being pushed down people's throat. This kind of crap has never happened for any other Presidential event in history. Why should we do anything different for this one?? Becasue he is black?? Muslim?? If that is the case, then I consider you a racist. Yep...that is what you are. Read the definition of a racist. If you want equality, then treat his equal adn treat the Presidential events as equal. Not this hyped up crap. You will never push BO down my throat or my son's throat as the BOE is trying to do. It is wrong. It is unfair. It is a racist thing to do. If you want ot celebrate it, then have the kids stay home and celebrate it. The other kids should go to school and learn.

Dr. Martin Luther King had a dream that came straight from heaven that the black brothers and sisters would band together and climb the mountain to freedom, opportunity, equality, fair hiring practices, equal educational opportunities, etc. The top of the mountain has been reached my children. What is our next step? No,not to go down the mountain but to walk forward on the plain that the Lord has extended to us. Look down and never loose sight of your roots. It has been a long trip and many hardships have been endured. Now is the time to rejoice. Don't let some of our sick and prejudiced white neighbors spoil your accomplishment. There will always be jealousy, prejudice, etc. for many low class people need some race or group to look down upon to enhance their own self-esteem and worthiness. Heed not their lies, rude comments and racial outcries for they are freightened as they sink down to the level from which we came. Our faith enabled us to rise to be a race and non-violent group to be recognized for our talents and contributions to the building of America. In your churches this Sunday, sing the old negro spirituals, reflect on your ancestors, praise God for answering our prayers and let the names of all our black leaders from Dr. King up to President Obama be read aloud as the background music plays the old song,"We Shall Overcome".I want to see a big smile on everyone of your faces Tuesday and close your ears to ignorant remarks. Never let your smile fade.Words can't destroy people of faith.

I had a vision last night as I slept. I heard voices and the strings of angels playing the spiritual songs that our forefathers sung as slavery made them work in the fields.I looked through the haze to see cotton being picked, tobacco leaves carried to the barn and scenes that gave me a pictorial history of the suffering of our ancestors. One angel whispered, "let thy faith sustain thee". Another voice echoed with," your future generations will inherit the earth.Have faith and time will reward thee". Upon wakin in the morning, a thought was implanted in my mind. The Indians are compensated for the white man stealing their lands with monthly checks. Why shouldn't all blacks who are descendents of slaves be extended the same priviledge with monies to boost their standard of living?I carried this dream to church Bible study and everyone agreed that the Lord had shared with me what the future beholds.

"Proactive measures and assistance from the dominant white race" is a lovely phrase to put the responsibility somewhere other than where it belongs. Our school system spends an incredible amount of money on programs for minority kids, for staff to work with minority kids, for alternative programs so kids don't have to be suspended for their serious offenses, and for alternatives to the alternatives, for anything that will keep them in school. The federal government funds free breakfast, free lunch, after school programs, Title One programs, free summer school, and dozens of other programs. Those who do nothing in school but disrupt are never considered responsible for what they choose to do. Don't yell at the teachers, don't steal from other kids, don't set fires, take off your hat, sit down are not complex tasks so it is actually their fault when they disobey the simplest rules. They are costing the rest of the kids their educations and costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. Maybe some have learned they will be supported all of their lives so why work? Ask any teachers or administrators which group of students does the least work and demands the most attention. Cut welfare, do not increase welfare benefits after the second child, and that might make a difference.

Most of the people on this blog make me sick and I bet that they are over 40 years of age. Once again, racism rears its ugly head I am afro-american and why does he have to be the "first Afro-american" president? Wasn't it white folk who started that? But blacks play the race card? I thought his mother was white? Wouldn't that make him bi-racial? Or don't y'all want to claim him. You can't say he's black cause he is married to black woman. If that's the case, then all the white women I see walking around salisbury with bi-racial children would be of a different race, predominately black. I am sick of the hype too. I am sure if it was "safe" for obama to claim bi-racial status, I am sure he would.
Ask Ann Coulter. Then we could celebrate the fact that a person of various ehnicities represents the country.
