"My children will not be attending school tomorrow. I feel we have made the right decision after days of mauling it over.
The decision came after speaking to a teacher "completely off the record" in the drug store after school Friday. After small talk, I said something along the lines of "have a nice long weekend" and added that my kids may not be there Tuesday either because I felt a little uncomfortable sending them and letting them watch the inauguration without family . . . just in case something was to happen.
She responded that she did not agree with the school holding the inauguration in the cafeteria for all to watch at the same time, and this school was the only school in Worcester County to do this. I asked why?, because of the principal's wishes to do this? She said no, because the school was primary black students. She sarcastically asked if the any schools had televised an inauguration before, which of course, I knew the answer was "no."
We agreed on the fact that parents should've been invited to watch with their children and not dis-invited. We also agreed that the schools are taking a huge risk by televising such a momentous occasion with a chance of it being very disastrous (someone could be crazy enough to take a shot at Obama, etc). After reliving the conversation that we had and hashing it over with my husband, we agreed that if my children were to watch, I'd rather it be with us.
It doesn't matter who we voted for, it's the fact that all day tomorrow, Obama is going to be shoved down my children's throat. . . and why? Because he's black? Because he's promised change? Or just because he's our next president? ... when all the other inaugurations were never televised at school.
I believe that the school (instead of sending home a note stating the 'optional' dress code for Tuesday) should have sent home a permission slip, asking if their child is allowed to watch this event."

Although I personally didn't vote for Obama I think it does signal a positive change that a person of color can be elected as the president of the United States. The problem with most of what I read and what school administrators, teachers, etc are teaching are youth, is that Obama is the first Black President! This is not the case. What is history here for our country, is that the U.S. has picked a man of both races to run our country, we are showing the world that we have over come racism and that we have united as one. That is what we should be teaching our youth. That is what I will be teaching the youth that I deal with. If you want to keep your kids home so they don't have to participate in this historic event, then why don't you just home school them so you can control all that they learn. I attended American Education Week back in November and several students did not salute the American Flag during the morning Pledge of Allegiance. I brought it to the attention of the school office and they advised they had no authority to "force" any student to stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance. So, then what is the difference? Why is my child "forced" to watch the OBAMA Comedy show tomorrow at school. I did not give the school my permission!
I think the school board has "Overstepped" their boundaires.

As a pentagon police officer my nephew will be on a roof top in DC during the event. He is qualified with swat, but was given the option of a roof top or swat! I'm glad he chose the roof top. They do anticipate cold weather as they were all issued artic wear. I do pray nothing happens that would cause mayhem because innocent would be hurt! After some thought for the past week or so, I decided to keep my daughter home.I might have been okay if it was just dressing up in red/white/blue, but these "activities" I don't know about all that hoopla. I made a dentist appt for her too! :) I am going to watch it with her.(some of it, she is young) I explained why this president is so different compared to the others. She doesn't see color. I believe it is a historical event, and its very emotional to alot of people who lived during times when the blacks couldnt swim with the whites and all that crazy stuff that went on before my time. To the older black folks, this is a WONDERFUL moment for them. I just don't see black and white, in my eyes we have always been the same. We are all God's children.I don't like how so many are turning this man into a GOD. Something just doesn't feel right about it. I am disappointed as a black parent and teacher that many of you have displayed such racial attitudes. Everything that we as a minority have done has been non-violent since the great Dr. Martin Luther King led us up the mountain and gave us hope and confidence to go forward with persistence. We never stopped but we as a people banned together and organized ourselves around the churches. The black race has achieved one honor to have Obama be president of America. But we are not through until we all can head up department stores, fire companies,etc. and be accepted into all the white clubs and private parties where a lot of political decisions are made.We have not achieved equality yet. Thank God we made it to step 1. With Obama steps 2,3,4,5, etc. will quickly be accomplished I pray.
I find it hard to believe that someone is worried black students will "beat their chests" and celebrate because someone who is partially black has won the presidency.
For the record, I'm white, an Anglo, Teutonic extraction to be precise . What are we so afraid of? This country was founded on white men beating their chests and declaring themselves superior to black people. Not satisfied with that we declared that we had a right to enslave black & partially black people for no other reason than their racial make up. Then, after abolishing slavery we, made it a super hard, 100 year road to some version of equal rights.
In my high school, blacks weren't allowed. They had their "own" school. Of course it was the 50 year old school we had abandoned when our new school was built. Every five years we got brand new text books. The black school, got our worn out, out dated books.
I would say black people have every right to hate white people, but that doesn't seem to be the case for the majority. Most seem to want to follow Dr. King's dream of equality and a brotherhood of all men. Speaking of Dr. King, I believe he did more to advance the transcendent ideals of our nation than any other person, period. At 15, I was no transcendent thinker, and being a product of the south & in high school at the time of Dr. King's assination, I didn't feel that way at the time. I mean, our town actually had regional KKK meetings at the National Guard Armory! The "joke" told by students and faculty after the assination was that "Ray should be given the strongest punishment the law allowed...a $5 fine for shooting a coon out of season." Real funny, huh?....And WE are now worried about black people being racist & celebrating the election of a person of color?

But white churches expoundend a slave holding theology. In my southern, Christian church, blacks weren't allowed. If a black person ventured in, he or she would no doubt have been escorted out, then paid a visit later to show that this kind of disrespect and impiety would not be tolerated. Our pastor often shouted to the faithful, "Bless God, it's so plain a one eyed nigger could see it" This brought many smiles and "amens." But looking back now, I really, REALLY don't believe Jesus would endorse such talk in his name.

As a concerned parent, I am calling the Board of Education tomorrow and demand that every absence be checked. If a child is not sick, then he should be punished or his parents fined for making the absence illegal. The truant officiers should be out riding around with police backup and not sitting in the Bd of Educ. Keeping students out of school just for prejudice reasons is stupid, just plain stupid.

I allow my children to stay home once or twice a year for no reason other than they deserve a break once in awhile. Teachers get sick days, do you really think they are always sick. If you have a job you might get sick days, are you always sick when you take off? What if someone uses their vacation but doesn't do anything for the vacation, should they not get paid for it?
Children are allowed "X" amount of unexcused absences a year, so if the child is not excessively absent there isn't a darn thing anyone can do about it.
Plus, although some are making this out to be a totally racially motivated action it isn't. There are parents who are concerned about the possibility of their children witnessing something horrible happen during this event. There are parents upset over the fact some schools are requiring children to dress in special attire. There are some parents who are sick and tired of people who don't know the first thing about their child(ren) dictating what that child must do.
My children are going to school tomorrow because unlike many who are causing a stink, I went to my childrens school and asked exactly what was going to be happening tomorrow. There is no special dress suggestions, the children will be watching the inauguration and I will be sitting my butt right there with them in the event they do need mommy for any reason. If people were truly concerned with their children's well being they would do as I am doing, or they could take it one step further and offer to provide refreshments, snacks, etc. or simply offer to volunteer tomorrow. That would require some to get off their rear ends though so I don't look for many to make that much of an effort...sigh
My 2 girls aren't going...no way. They'll get more education sitting here working on the computer than they would with liberalism and Obama worship shoved down their throat.
Keeping kids out of school today is NOT stupid. Its the fact that its never been done for any other president but this one. Why? Is it due to the fact that he is not all white? Yes sir/mam it is! If my children were old enough to be in school they would not attend today. Why is it considered racism when its the whites towards the blacks but not when its vis versa? Come on people. Think about things for a moment we have "black history month" why dont we have a white history month? Where is the racism there? This whole deal with watching the inauguration in school isn't the big deal the big deal is when it was never done for any other president but him.
He is no different then any other president we have had. It keeps being said he is our "first black president" come on he isn't BLACK! Just because he has a small percentage of black in him he is considered black?

Working under the table and paying no taxes is worse than welfare. Plenty of people work under the table get WIC for their kids and/or go to TLC for assistance however they can afford to drink and smoke?

This is no doubt a "sad day for America". Its already been said in many places by blacks "we own you now" So what will happen today? will crime rates go up due to blacks thinking they "own us white people now" or because they "rule the world" due to our so called "black" president? The Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia where we live is one of the few parts of the USA where Free Blacks owned slaves and traded slaves, fact not fiction and I have found cases of it over and over while chasing the title on properties here on the shore, its public record...
But reading the public records going back 400 plus years and pointing out the truth is now considered another form of racism.
My 9-year old white mixed race son has been called a 'Nigger' by his black classmates, in the classroom, in front of the teacher and she did not even look up from her desk or reprimand the students who used that language.

I, too, am sick of having Obama shoved down my throat. I find it funny that the black populus is holding on tightly to a man who isn't even black. He is mulatto.
I am also frustrated by the fact that as a caucasian, if I display any "white pride", I am considered a racist. Why is is politically correct to have a Black Police Officers Union (and any other "Black" anything, yet whites cannot have clubs or televison channels devoted strictly to whites?
In my experience, I have seen racism against whites displayed far more frequently than racism against blacks. In fact, I know blacks who literally hate whites because they are white.
Whites will choose a doctor, lawyer, or accountant based on his credentials and experience. Blacks will choose based on race.
Now, affirmative action: that was the death knell for equality. At this point, because of affirmative action, I will steer clear of minorities simply because I realize that a white (or other) had been bumped and replaced with a minority who scored lower all the way around.
Equality? I hope the blacks aren't counting on Obama. He may just raise the bar and force blacks to perform, just as he has had to do.
