"Joe,
My wife and I went over yesterday afternoon and delivered two large trash bags of blankets and sheets to them yesterday. We basically emptied our attic and closets of suff we no longer use. Amazing what you have when your searching for it. Anyway, to answer a few of the questions posted on this thread. Yes they will take clothes, shoes etc. for kids and adults alike. As of yesterday the shelter for the women and kids had 38 guest that they are feeding and keeping warm. This doesn't include the shelter they house the men in. What people need to realize its not just "street people" but folks that are down on their luck that cant afford the basics of life for one reason or another. My wife and i are going to start taking over fresh baked goods for the kids. Its tough enough for them not to be able to stay in their own home, we're just trying to make it feel like home. The lady that I met, Ms. Savage, was a very sweet woman who was working her butt off scrubbing pots and pans when I got there. She did ask if I could mention one thing, She wwasn't even sure how to put it. HALO will be getting their first electric bill for the season. She said it would be a doozie because of the amount of heat, cooking , water runnig etc. Can we help as a community? It really does us all good when we forget about focusing on ourselves and help others that are FAR worse off then we are. What do you think Joe? Can you put out the Cry for help for them? The Bible says, when you've done unto the least of these, you've done it unto Me.

The Electric company should be giving a break to shelters!!
I am in the Foodservice Industry, and at times have alot of food that could be given away, sometimes prepared, sometimes unprepared. Will they accept both and where it would it be dropped off?
Anon 12:52 Give Celeste a call at 410-742-9356 she could answer your question better than anyone else.
I have a bunch of kids clothes, where would I drop them off at?
THis is the times we have. Not only do homeless people need help but lots of others do also.
I am one i have always worked and got buy but i dont think i can make it much longer.
My job is slowly slowing down , 1 or 2 days a week and it is getting harder to pay the bills.
I know lots of people dont realize this , that average working people are having problem paying for food ,eletricity, heating oil.
THose of you who give thank you, i give what i can.
people need jobs.not tax breaks.

Halo is a homeless shelter at Oakridge Baptist Church in the KMart shopping Center in Salisbury.
Where did OakRidge get the money to purchase the whole shopping center? Apparently they are not too hard up for money. Especially when they expect 10% from members' pay as contribution for the church.
There are a lot of families right now who can't afford the electric bill for their homes. Delmarva power is bass ackwards with the budget billing, they wait until the end of the year to sock people with a whopper of a bill instead of ajusting the amount throughout the year during reviews. It is a real shame that every day working class is struggling to feed their children and heat their homes. I know a lot of people who could use, and be grateful to receive, used clothing. Most are too ashamed to ask. It's really sad for all who are suffering right now.
ok so if halo is the one in the kmart shopping center.... what is the name and who runs the one thats located next to Havest Baptist behind Giant.
annymous 3:35, You need to stop and think about what you are saying. You make it sound like Oak Ridge is begging their people/members for money. The 10% that you refer to is biblical. In the Bible it states that we are to give 10% back to the Lord for tithe. He has blessed us with it to begin with so why not give back. Please do not think these people are doing something greedy!!
It wasnt Oakridge that purchased the shopping center but one of their members. It was donated to the church so they can have room for the shelter, the coffee house , the church etc. Why is it that someone can always see the wrong in something right. Nothing like snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory. Just don't understand it. A shelter feeding, clothing and housing the poor and someone wants to talk about what the church owns. Someone has turned their life around and now serving the community and they want to point out their past for everyone to see. I say let the one who has not sinned(failed and committed wrong) throw the first stone. Whats the old saying about stones and glass houses????

HALO is a ministry begun by Oak Ridge, now a separate entity. The shelter is located next door to Harvest Baptist Church, behind Giant. Trust me, this is not a rich ministry... and they will gladly accept all kinds of donations. Clothes go to the HALO main site, call the number for anything else.
Celeste is doing a fine work over there.
