For some years Barrie Tilghman and Bubba Comegys have tried -- and with the assistance of the Daily Times -- succeeded in posturing the audit as evidence of their sound financial management of the City. In point of fact it is not such a report, but merely reviews the bookkeeping-accounting aspects to assure proper accountability -- it does not reflect upon or address whether we are being overtaxed or whether the money is being spent wisely.

It is thanks to Campbell's sense of public service and her determination htat we are even able to view the audit. As taxpayers, we spent about $30,000 this year to get Trice Geary to come into the finance department before the auditors arrived to get the books in shape. Love her or hate her, everyone knows that what Barrie Tilghman wants she gets when it comes to city hall. If having the financial affairs in good order was important to her we would have had on time audits and the city books would have been open to the public. It clearly wasn't important to anyone but Campbell, and then Cohen too once she was elected. It wasn't important to Dunn Comegys, Cathcart, Shields, or Smith either.
