Re: Lowering of the United States Flag and Maryland State Flag to Half Staff
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
This is to advise you that Governor Martin O'Malley has ordered the United States Flag and Maryland State Flag flown at half staff on Sunday, December 7, 2008, from sunrise to sunset. This action is in honor of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, in memory of the brave Americans who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom and security of our Nation.
This action is taken under the Protocol for the Maryland State Flag. Any questions on the above should be directed to the Office of the Secretary of State.

While the lowering of the American Flag to half mast on December 7th is traditional. His Highness the Governor O'Malley does not have the authority to lower the American Flag. That can only be done by a Presidential decision.
Wrong. The Governor of any State has the authority to have flags lowered to half mast on State owned property.
You're using a commemoration of the Pearl Harbor attack to be politically divisive, and to attempt to score cheap political points... and you're wrong, to boot.
How very Republican of you.
With the 7th falling on Sunday.. Flags won't be flown anyway
