OCPD WARNS PUBLIC OF EMAIL SCAM

The Ocean City Police Department would like the community to be aware of an email scam that is being used to extort money. The scam, which has targeted individuals through their business email addresses, is attempting to use threatening remarks in order to extort money from the victims.

Ocean City Police detectives believe that the email was sent out by using a mass e-mail address list which included several local realtors and does appear to be a hoax. Delaware State Police in Sussex County have also received several reports regarding the same email.

The Ocean City Police Department is advising people to be cautious of the scam. In the event that you should receive the same, or similar, email then you should contact the OCPD at 410-723-6610. Also, detectives are asking that you contact the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) by visiting www.ic3.gov.

This website is available to provide citizens with a tool that will help them receive, develop and refer criminal complaints regarding the rapidly expanding arena of cyber crime. The IC3 also gives victims of cyber crime a convenient and easy-to-use reporting mechanism that alerts authorities of suspected criminal or civil violations.

I'm confident if you contacted the OCPD they will provide it for you.

Joe. This is why I was so persistent the other day regarding the joke/serious (goodness, I am still not sure) "land purchase advice" email. You probably think I am a whacko (the jury is still out here) but I am kind of educated with the common street wisdom of a local street "business lady". People eating khat in a cardboard condo overseas, or locally earning a scam education in county lock-up, have a lot of time on their hands to figure out new and improved ways to part the uneducated with their disposable income. Free your mind my friends..

Look, I deliver a ton of information every single day. That being said, I offer you the serious stuuf as well as some humor. In the case of land purchase Post, give me a break. AGAIN, there was no name or contact to GIVE anything to this person, get over it. There was NO scam but you keep dragging it out as if there was.

My suggestion to you is, take everything I say with a grain of salt and you'll be perfectly fine then. After all, this Blog is opinionated anyway, right?
