I know there are a lot of problems with Salisbury. I see most fo them on PAC14 every Monday night. I think someone should nominate the Public commentor from Walnut Tree dr. for Mayor. The short chubby older guy that was complaing about the expenditures in the City. He has been the only person that has made much sense on PAC14.

As for this blog, after reading a lot of it. A few things stand out to me. Joe you are the blog adminstrator, act like one and be a better person. The cussing and calling people names is ridiculous.

The little bit of things that go on at that end of the river could be moved, and the bridge would never have to be opened.
The grain trucks that unload the barges on that end do have steering wheels ,dont they.
For the rest of the junk down there, clean the dam place up. Then weld the bridge shut before it worries you to death.

P.S. is the chubby guy, S.J. by chance!!! If so, you go S.J.

Anon 8:05, Most of the product shipped upstream from the bridge is stone and fertilizer, if I'm not mistaken. I don't think a whole lot of grain is on those barges. Regardless of what it is the owners have just as much right to have their product go under the bridge as anyone does to go over it.
For everyone else who complains about the bridge being up and the fire department being on the East side of it I have some thoughts for you. The average bridge opening takes 12 to 15 minutes, I have timed many of them. The bridge opens 1 to 2 times a day, maximum. If the bridge opens 2 times a day for 15 minutes each then that is a little over 2% of the day. That means that almost 98% of the time the bridge is closed. All the fuss about the fire department being on the East side of the bridge only comes into effect if the emergency is on the West side of it. If the fire house was where it was and there was a fire in the Reservation then the bridge problem would still exist. The fire department is where it is and the bridge opens when it does, deal with it or don't go that way.

The mare would love nothing better than to take over the north prong of the river and she doesn't care who she has to screw over to get it.

The fella from Walnut Tree doesn't live in the city, he owns a business in the city and his name is SJ Disharoon.

First we move the grain barges out of town, then we weld the bridge, then we complain until the Perdue is closed and then people stop coming to downtown to work and downtown goes away.
I've seen these ripple effects in many towns in the east.
You don't like the smell of the papermill, make sure it closes its doors forever. Smell gone is so is the biggest employer. Town goes under. Look at Tyrone, PA and see what happens when you start a ripple against the biggest employer in the area!

SO, what is your point?

Do you remember all the hoopla about "dismissing' the bridge tenders by the contractor who works for the Army Corp? and the State Highway involvement?

It seems that there is no politic will to correct this situation.

There is a way to go "around" isn't there? 50 to Cypress to Pricilla Street? to Mill to 50 ? I do not go over there much, so I do not really know.

The opening of the bridge may be a serious problem for the emergency veicles, however, the failure of the administration to address these considerations prior to the 10 million plus fire station being built is what boggles my mind.

We rode down town yesterday and were amazed at how little is there. It used to be "quaint" and eye appealing. Now very few buildings are occupied and the streets are MURDER. Outrageous. The market street bridge should never have been closed, imo. A lot of traffic was diverted from Mill & Riverside when it was standing. The attitude seems generally to be "let's spend money to tear (something) down cause we don't like it" with no foresight as to future implications. Witness the chicken plant and rt. 50. There's nothing downtown but the GOB, Bad streets and some offices. Point being, go ahead, close the bridge & in 20 years, the west side & north prong will be all (as opposed to none) the worse for it. Witness the market street area. It's disgusting. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Work with what you have, then proceed from there.

the FD should know about the bridge going up before it goes up. can't believe they don't. then they take an alternate route.

SHA (Gary Comegys) should have and could have fought for the bridge tenders but that is not what his mare told him to do. The wisest man in this county told them not to put 10 million into the cranberry bog but that is not what Bubbas mare told them to do.

Barrie wants it, Barrie gets it. Gary Comegys is nothing more than a waterboy for Barrie Tilghman. Should that imbecile be elected mare Louise will then be his waterboy. We'll have more of the same for the next 4 years.
