The Judicial Nominating Commissions select and nominate to the Governor
persons found by the Commission to be legally and most fully
professionally qualified to fill a vacancy. Once the close date to a
vacancy passes, the names of all applicants will be listed. The public
is encouraged to participate in the selection process by submitting
written and signed comments concerning the qualifications of an
applicant to The Judicial Nominating Commission, c/o The Administrative
Office of the Courts, Program Services, 2001-D Commerce Park Drive,
Annapolis, Maryland 21401. The comments must be received at least one
week prior to the commission meeting date shown below.
The Nominating Commission meets to interview all candidates. Thereafter
a voting session takes place and the names of nominees are reported to
the Governor. The Governor's Office officially notifies the appointed
individual and releases an official notice to the public.

People need to pay closer attention to these things. A couple of years ago a local attorney with no business as a judge made the short list to selection. Somehow the governor made another selection, but suffice it to say that typically the selection committee and the governor don't actually know these people, and use the collateral material to make their decision.
Please, if you actually know any of these candidates and wish to voice an opinion EITHER WAY, take a moment to write your thoughts and send them along. Apparently it works.
Vic Laws is the man for the job.
Why must it be a man?
Bob Greenleaf is my choice. He would be Caroline County's first judge on the Court. Bob, 54, cut his teeth with (now Federal Judge) Peter Messitte. Bob's been on the Shore for 22 yrs. He has tried cases in every court on the Shore, written CSA briefs, been a Special Master & Special Asst A.G., was Caroline County State's Attorney, president of the Dorchester Democratic Club (1993-94), and was picked 5 years ago by Chief Judge Murphy to be Chief Deputy Clerk at the Court of Special Appeals. Bob has a history of cranking out volumes of quality work both in practice and at the Court. We will need that on the Court since judges these days are expected to push out two opinions per week.
