Do We Have A Million Dollars In Our Bank Account Right Now?

Justin Collis (SP?) of the Wicomico County Liquor Dispensary was asked if they had $1,000,000.00 in their Bank Account and this was his response when the question was asked and he repeated it. I knew something was up just as soon as he asked the question back exactly as it was stated. His response was, NO. When AK Kenny asked him how much money was in the account then he replied, well, not exactly a million dollars. He stalled and then admitted there was around $980,000.00 in the account.

He went on to explain how an entire trailer load of liquor can cost almost $100,000.00 and a truck load of beer can cost almost $20,000.00. OK, so do tell me why you're floating almost $1,000,000.00 in the account again?

they have a 45 day billing period. in other words in most cases the liquor store has the liquor sold before the bill is due from the wholesaler. So why again do they need that much money "on hand.?"

Maybe they buy 10 loads of liquor at a time? (rhetorical question)

But, $20,000 for a load of beer?

I thought they weren't supposed to be selling beer! Nice confession there, kid.

the next question should have been "do you buy a truck load, or just what you need?"

A checking account? Sheesh. Shouldn't some of that be invested, at least overnight in some other type of interest bearing account? That's crazy stuff.

THERE IS NO BILLING PERIOD ON BEER OR LIQOUR. IT HAS TO BE PAID FOR AT DELIVERY.

Yes, it should be invested and tell me who gets the interest from such an investment? Just why do they have to hold so much cash?

I don't understand why some people keep hammering on the Liquor Board. I would much rather have the profit from liquor sold in the county come back to the county. If the liquor board is disbanded the profits go to whoever sells it, namely beer and wine stores we have now. Have you looked at the owners of most of the beer stores? Do you think that profit will be spent here or sent back home, wherever that is?

That is true about beer and wine, however you are wrong, liquor is billed for 45 days. Do your homework. I will say it again, liquor is billed due in 45 days. I have copies of invoices. YOU ARE WRONG.

It's not that people don't want the county to take revenue for liquor sales. It's the open door invitation to corruption that should be the reason for just letting it go.

The restaurants must pay for our liquor when we pick our order up from the dispensary. However, as a wholesaler the liquor store does not have to pay upon delivery. They are on a 45 day billing period.

There are still many layers to peel back on this onion yet.
