Suspect: Antonio E. Tyler, 33, Portsmouth. VA

On 29 July 2008 at 5:48 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle for following another vehicle too closely. Upon making contact with the occupants the deputy detected the odor of burning marijuana emanating from the passenger compartment of Tyler’s vehicle. The deputy initiated a search of the vehicle and had the occupants exit the vehicle. While speaking with the passenger, Antonio Tyler, the deputy observed that Tyler repeatedly appeared to be engaged in attempting to conceal something behind his back. The deputy searched Tyler and located a large bag that contained what the deputy recognized as cocaine and marijuana hidden in Tyler’s pants. The amount of cocaine later was determined to weigh over 110 grams. Because of the amount seized, Tyler was charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Tyler was en route from New Jersey to the Chesapeake, VA area with the drugs.

Tyler was arrested and transported to the Central Booking Unit at the Wicomico County Detention Center where he was processed and taken before a District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Tyler was held in the Detention Center in lieu of $75,000.00 bond.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team will continue to proactively patrol our roads in their effort to combat the illicit drug trade. Because of their efforts, this is the third substantial seizure of illegal drugs this month.
