The following ad was in The Guide (this week):
Bowflex Ultimate Exercise Center, mint cond., 1 yr. old, asking $350 OBO. Call Al at 302-943-5817 to schedule a time to view the machine.
There's no need for the complete story, except for the ending. Yesterday after dinner, the family and I unloaded the trailer, hooked it onto the Excursion and we were Seaford-bound (from West Ocean City). We stopped by the ATM and made it in about an hour.
Once we arrive, Mrs. Al informs us that she just received a call from someone else that was interested...for more money than what we had agreed to. My smile faded...I thought it was a joke. I asked her if she had the cash from the other buyer yet, of course she said no. I told her I had the cash in my truck. She, again, said she had a better offer and will not sell to us. I told her that I spoke to her 1 hour ago and knew we were on our way. I also told her I just spent 1 hour plus at least $20 in gas to get there. She just gave me a blank look....nothing like "sorry," more like, "just leave." I left, before making more comments as I wished I would had if it weren't for my children with me, . . . stunned, upset, mad, bitter, pissed off!
NOW HERE'S THE KICKER! I offered them $800. Not $350 as posted in the ad. Al had put the bowflex in The Guide without his emotional bossy pregnant wife's consent, who wears the pants in the family very well! After striking a deal with him on Wednesday evening to pick it up following evening, Mrs. Al calls back less than 1 hour later, stating that her husband should not have placed the ad without her knowing about it. After speaking with Al 3-4 more times over the weekend, we decided on $800. I guess Mrs. Al reneged her agreement from the time I left home till the time I got in their driveway.
Is this a sign of the times in a slow economy? To sell something from under your buyer when you know your buyer is on the way, not to mention a 1 hour drive - one way?!?! Did Al really get a call with a better offer or were they just money-hungry? I could see selling to the other people if the other interested party was there, but they weren't.
Ladies and gentlemen, what could you do for me? Call them. Act interested. Make an offer. Set up an appointment, only to cancel so you waste their time like mine. I am bitter and upset. Am I over-reacting? Am I beating the dead horse? Am I just too nice because I would never do that to someone? I am very spiteful, I hope this mystery person doesn't pay up!!
By the way, Al is some big shot at Harrington Raceway & Casino. I guess he likes to gamble away money, before it's even in his hands.

I cant believe that she (Mrs. Al) would act the way she did. Sounds like false advertisement to me! What did her husband have to say about this - or he is too wimpy to stand up to her? Certainly sounds like she wears the pants in the family.
She probably does not even use the equipment and now giving up an offer of $800.00. She sounds too money hungry! I would not give them one nickel for the equipment.
this is a boring post that has nothing to do with salisbury, nothing to do with anything that anyone cares about... why post it here? sorry for your luck, really... but who cares?
anon 9:22-Mr. Al did nothing, said nothing, wouldn't even look at us. Words cannot describe how fudged up it was.
Anon 9:29----if it happened to you, then you would understand. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, though.
This is a sign of the times. Not selling something for some needed cash, but when times get tough, it brings out the worst in people and you learn what people are really made of. It's the same in business. Al should have put his foot down if he had any Huevos and said right is right, I made a deal I gave my word. If you had not shown up when you were suppose to, that's different, all bets off. But obviously Al does not wear the pants and she doesn't have a clue about ethics or morals in a business deal, low trash. Since she wears the pants in the family and he is too big a wus to stand behind his word, Maybe it really is possible for Mrs Al to do what you would have liked to tell he to do to herself.
sunny,
You're probably lucky you didn't do business with these people. Buying used with no guarantee or warranty, and you clearly can't take their word for the condition anyway. Deal with reputable people. These weren't.
This is really an uncool use of the blog. Sorry you had a bad experience, but asking people to join you in a conspiracy to harass some idiot by telephone is a good way to get in trouble with the law.
Sadly, there are idiots in the world, and I'm sorry for your encounter with one. But this is a waste of space to just put a personal b*tch up and try to involve others.
What a pair of perfectly matched A-holes.Sorry for your luck thats why I do not even bother with ads, especially those in the Guide. You might get a great deal but you never know what kind of weirdo you gotta deal with.No offense to those from DE but for a small state, theres alot of frootloops there.
PS-If he needs a set of cojones I suggest he check the Guide for a pair of those hysterically tasteless trailer hitch "balls".
ROFLMAO I just realized you live over the line into DE,Joe.No offense
MD has fruitloops too!

If someone reads this post, and actually takes my advice by harassing these idiots, then they must be an idiot themselves. I was clearly venting. Take the post for what it's worth to me, venting my frustrations.
Really quite surprised by your vengence...and suggesting committing a crime in your behalf because you learned a life lesson is disappointing. Clearly it's much more than venting. I always thought this blog was put together by Joe for the common good of the community. This article is purely personal.
If you know anybody that is interested in a Bowflex then let me know. We bought one and now were gonna sell it. We haven't used it in a while. Email me @ Cruzer485@aol.com
