President Trump invoked the legacy of the late civil rights leader Barbara Jordan Wednesday in his immigration debate with Congress, saying the former House Democrat “recognized that an immigration policy that puts Americans first is an important civil rights issue.”
“In the spirit of Jordan’s vision, my administration has taken an America First approach to immigration,” Mr. Trump said in a statement honoring Jordan, who died on this date in 1996. “As a result, illegal immigration is down and reports from around the country are showing companies increasing wages and hiring Americans pushed out of the labor market during past administrations.”
He said, “She remained steadfast in promoting common-sense reforms that would better protect the rights and needs of Americans.”
Mr. Trump, who is under fire by Democrats for his reported comments about restricting immigration from certain poor nations, said Jordan “challenged our nation’s leaders to maximize opportunities for all Americans by adopting an immigration policy that puts American citizens first.”
“Jordan called for an end to chain migration, which has allowed millions upon millions of low-skilled foreign nationals to compete for opportunities and resources against our most vulnerable American citizens — many of whom come from African-American and Hispanic-American communities,” the president said. “She also called for the mandatory use of an electronic employment verification system, now known as E-Verify, to finally turn off the jobs-magnet that lures so many illegal immigrants to our country.”

Narrative: On 12 January 2018 at 9:00 PM, a deputy investigated a reported domestic altercation that reportedly occurred at a residence in the 30000 block of Zion Road in Salisbury.
Upon arrival, the deputy met with a male victim who stated that he and his girlfriend, Ana Cecilia-Perez became embroiled in an argument during which Cecilia-Perez began striking him in the face with a wooden spoon. During the investigation, the deputy observed
signs of injury to the victim that corroborated his account.
The deputy placed Cecilia-Perez under arrest and transported her to the Central Booking Unit where she was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner released Cecilia-Perez on $10,000.00

Narrative: On 13 January 2018 at 4:25 PM, a deputy responded to a residence in the 6000 block of Forest Grove Road for a reported altercation between Henry Landrum and a juvenile co-habitant.
The deputy learned that Landrum and this juvenile were involved in a physical altercation that culminated with Landrum pushing the juvenile down. During the ensuing investigation, the deputy observed signs of injury to the juvenile victim that corroborated
the account of the assault.
The deputy placed Landrum under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Landrum in the Detention Center in
lieu of $20,000.00 bond.

House investigators to question FBI chief of staff on Hillary Clinton email probe
The chief of staff and senior counselor to FBI Director Christopher Wray is expected to meet with the House Oversight Committee Thursday.
A spokesperson for House Oversight confirmed to the Washington Examiner that Jim Rybicki is expected to testify as part of the committee’s investigation into the Department of Justice’s probe in Hillary Clinton’s private email server, and the decision by then-FBI Director James Comey to announce there would be no criminal charges against the former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.
Rybicki will also appear before the House Judiciary Committee, an aide told the Washington Examiner.
The joint investigation was announced by the House Oversight and Judiciary committees in December, when Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., outlined information they are seeking to determine what role Justice Department and FBI officials played in various probes, including the Clinton probe.

Last year, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte made an announcement to great fanfare: The university would soon open a branch of the Confucius Institute, the Chinese government-funded educational institutions that teach Chinese language, culture and history. The Confucius Institute would “help students be better equipped to succeed in an increasingly globalized world,” says Nancy Gutierrez, UNC Charlotte’s dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and “broaden the University’s outreach and support for language instruction and cultural opportunities in the Charlotte community,” according to a press release.
But the Confucius Institutes’ goals are a little less wholesome and edifying than they sound—and this is by the Chinese government’s own account. A 2011 speech by a standing member of the Politburo in Beijing laid out the case: “The Confucius Institute is an appealing brand for expanding our culture abroad,” Li Changchun said. “It has made an important contribution toward improving our soft power. The ‘Confucius’ brand has a natural attractiveness. Using the excuse of teaching Chinese language, everything looks reasonable and logical.”
Li, it now seems, was right to exult. More than a decade after they were created, Confucius Institutes have sprouted up at more than 500 college campuses worldwide, with more than 100 of them in the United States—including at The George Washington University, the University of Michigan and the University of Iowa. Overseen by a branch of the Chinese Ministry of Education known colloquially as Hanban, the institutes are part of a broader propaganda initiative that the Chinese government is pumping an estimated $10 billion into annually, and they have only been bolstered by growing interest in China among American college students.
Yet along with their growth have come consistent questions about whether the institutes belong on campuses that profess to promote free inquiry. Confucius Institutes teach a very particular, Beijing-approved version of Chinese culture and history: one that ignores concerns over human rights, for example, and teaches that Taiwan and Tibet indisputably belong to Mainland China. Model's second leg amputated due to toxic shock syndrome from tampon
Model Lauren Wasser’s life changed at the age of 24 when a life-threatening condition – caused by a tampon – took her right leg and the toes of her left foot.
Five years later, the fashion model is still suffering the same infection, known as Toxic Shock Syndrome, which is caused by toxins released by bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (staph) or Streptococcus pyogenes (strep). After enduring months of excruciating pain, the now 29-year-old had her second leg amputated on Thursday.
“Life is about to be so different, again,” Wasser posted on Instagram days before the surgery. “I’m in great spirits though and ready for my next chapter.”
Wasser’s partner, photographer Jennifer Rovero, kept fans updated throughout the process, posting updates before and after the procedure.

New hurdles to renew driver's license in Maryland
LARGO, MD (WUSA9) - At least 3.7 million drivers in Maryland will need to produce additional documents the next time they renew their driver's licenses or state IDs in order for the state to comply with the federal Real ID Act of 2005.
The first two weeks of the requirements that went into effect at the beginning of 2018 have gone smoothly, according to MVA officials.
Even so, it was not difficult to meet drivers who were caught by surprise when WUSA9 visited the MVA service center in Largo.
"I didn't get that information before I got here," said Lacelles Artllel as he waited in line for the second time to renew his license Wednesday.

Pennsylvania Police Hunt Pair Who Scooted Away With Other Shopper's Cash, Credit Cards
Pennsylvania cops are seeking the public’s help in identifying a pair of Walmart patrons suspected of stealing another shopper’s credit cards.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the duo swiped cash and credit cards from a female victim who reported losing her purse earlier this month at a Walmart in Honesdale, a rural borough about 30 miles northeast of Scranton.
Investigators report that the victim’s plastic was subsequently used that day for purchases at a McDonald’s restaurant, a Sunoco gas station, and a Walmart about 20 miles away from where the victim’s cash and credit cards were stolen.
A review of store surveillance video revealed that the suspects tooled around the second Walmart in motorized shopping carts (as seen above) and drove away from the store in a Subaru station wagon.

Higher use of electronic media is tied to poorer sleep quality in children as young as three, a new study from Germany suggests.
The study investigated the association between media consumption - including electronic media such as television, DVDs and computer gaming as well as books - with overall sleep quality in 530 three-year-olds born in southern Germany in 2012 and 2013.
Based on parent responses to a questionnaire, higher electronic media consumption was strongly linked to poor overall sleep quality, including worsening bedtime resistance, sleep anxiety, and daytime sleepiness.
“Previous studies have shown that media use, particularly electronic media use in the evening, is associated with poor sleep in adolescents and adults. This study shows that such relationships can be observed much earlier in life - even in the first 3-4 years,” said Dr. Daniel Buysse, a sleep medicine researcher at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, who was not involved in the study.

U.S. lawmakers are urging AT&T Inc, the No. 2 wireless carrier, to cut commercial ties to Chinese phone maker Huawei Technologies Co Ltd and oppose plans by telecom operator China Mobile Ltd to enter the U.S. market because of national security concerns, two congressional aides said.

Police officers ended up in a shootout with two criminals after moving in on a robbery of a convenience store in Baltimore, Maryland.
Several CCTV cameras captured the dramatic moment when police and robbers opened fire on each other in the 7-11 store just after 1am on Tuesday.
Police are now offering a $24,000 reward for any information of the armed robbers who both fled the scene.

Subject: Pentagon Confirms Russia Building Underwater Nuclear Drone
The autonomous torpedo is among an array of new strategic weapons being developed by Moscow as part of a nuclear modernization underway over the past decade.
Russian nuclear modernization includes multiple upgrades for older missiles, launchers, bombers, and submarines, according to an internal draft of the Nuclear Posture Review, a major policy study to be made public in final form later this month.
The draft was published last week by the Huffington Post and labeled "unclassified/for official use only" and "pre-decisional."
The report states that the new strategic arms are in addition to the modernization of legacy Soviet weapons, and "multiple upgrades" for all legs of Russian nuclear forces including strategic bombers, sea-based missiles, and land-based missiles.
"Russia is also developing at least two new intercontinental range systems, a hypersonic glide vehicle, and a new intercontinental, nuclear-armed, undersea autonomous torpedo," the report says.

Wicomico County Public School Make Up Days
The Board-approved 2017-2018 calendar includes three potential makeup days at the end of the school year. Wicomico schools will be in session on those designated makeup days, which are June 13, 14 and June 15; these are all early dismissal days. • High school students will have mid-term exams on Friday, Jan. 26 (Periods 6 and 7); Tuesday, Jan. 30 (Periods 4 and 5); and Wednesday, Jan. 31 (Periods 1, 2 and 3).
• The second marking term will now end on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
• Report cards will be distributed on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Referring to detailed specifics of company design and manufacturing, Jack O’Banion, a Lockheed vice president, said a “digital transformation” arising from recent computing capabilities and design tools had made hypersonic development possible. Then—assuming O’Banion chose his word tense purposely—came the surprise.
“Without the digital transformation the aircraft you see there could not have been made,” O’Banion said, standing by an artist’s rendering of the hypersonic aircraft. “In fact, five years ago, it could not have been made.”
Hypersonic applies to speeds above Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound. The SR-71 cruised at Mach 3.2, more than 2,000 mph, at around 85,000 feet.

"Take 3" Actions to Fight the Flu
Flu is currently widespread in most of the United States, but it’s not too late to take measures to reduce your risk of getting the flu. “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting yourself against the flu,” states Wicomico County Health Office Lori Brewster. “Everyone 6 months of age and older can be vaccinated,” Brewster continues, “and this is particularly important for people at high risk of serious complications such as young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions, and people 65 years and older.”
Another important step according to Brewster is to take everyday preventative actions. These include:
· Avoid close contact with sick people.
· While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.
· If you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities (your fever should be gone for 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medicine).
· Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and throw away the tissue in the trash after you use it.
· Wash your hands often with soap and water. If they are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth to keep germs from spreading.
· Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu.
A third step to prevent flu is to take antiviral drugs if you get the flu and your doctor prescribes them. These prescription drugs are different from antibiotics and can make illness milder and shorter. Brewster says, “Getting treated can prevent serious flu complications.”
Flu-like symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Some people may also have vomiting and diarrhea, or not have a fever.

Attorney General Frosh Joins 18 Attorneys General in Calling for Banking Legislation for Legalized Use of Marijuana
BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today joined a coalition of attorneys general urging Congress to advance legislation allowing states with legalized medical or recreational marijuana to bring that commerce into the banking system. Banks and other depository institutions are currently hindered by federal law from providing financial services to marijuana businesses, even in states where those businesses are regulated.
The letter, sent to congressional leaders, requests legislation that would provide a legal “safe harbor” for depository institutions that provide a financial product or service to a covered business in a state that regulates its marijuana industry.

Marathon runner dies two days after flu diagnosis
A 40-year-old mother in San Jose, Calif., died two days after catching the flu, The San Francisco Chronicle reported, citing local media.
Katie Denise Oxley Thomas, who was considered healthy and liked to run marathons, died on Jan. 4, the report said. She is the 42nd Californian under the age of 65 to die from the flu, the paper reported.
“I can tell you that she seemed absolutely fine on New Year’s Eve and called a friend Tuesday morning saying that she had a sore throat, and by Wednesday she was in the ICU,” her sister told The Mercury News.
“The doctor was saying that he had never seen anything like this, and it was not supposed to happen,” she said.
The family asked for a private autopsy. Her father believes she had gotten the flu shot, KGO reported.
Thomas had three children from 7 to 17.

The New York Times and The Washington Post dominate print media. Everywhere you turn you can’t escape their presence. CNN is carried in far more markets than Fox News. President Trump complained about having CNN but not Fox News when traveling in hotels overseas. Google News artificially elevates The New York Times and The Washington Post on its homepage and in search results.
A Pew survey just came out that revealed Americans trust our media even less than the Russians trust their media. Trump has drawn attention to the constant biased “errors” in mainstream reporting, referring to them as fake news. Almost every week there’s another story about false reporting, with a biased media organization forced to issue a retraction. We’re at a crossroads, where the mainstream media has lost so much credibility it may never recover to its former lofty status.
Since the Fourth Estate is so powerful, the best way to combat it is from multiple angles. First of all, stop sharing articles on social media from left-leaning publications. More than two-thirds of American adults get news from social media. Forty-five percent get news from Facebook. Eleven percent get news from Twitter. If you find a news article you want to share, look and see if Fox News, Townhall, or another site on the right has also written on the topic. And start sharing multiple sites and authors on the right, not just the most well-known ones. We need to get people used to seeing a full spectrum of sites on the right to choose from; have them become household names. You may not enjoy Twitter, but there are a lot of articles shared there now. Learn how to use Tweetdeck or another application with it in order to understand and make use of it.
Stop watching left-leaning network and cable news. Cable news is rapidly losing subscribers as people switch to streaming. Fox News has shows available to watch over streaming TV, including live over YouTube, which can be watched on TV with a PlayStation. There are conservative news stations that are generally online-only like NewsMaxTV. The Sinclair Broadcast Group partners with local TV stations to provide conservative leaning content. Find out which station in your area hosts their content and stick to that station if you’re going to watch a local TV station.

Wells Fargo to close 800 more Branches by 2020
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Wells Fargo bank near you may be closing soon.
CNN reports that the company announced plans Friday to shutter 800 of its branches by 2020. The company cited Americans relying more on mobile and online banking.
Some analysts believe the bank is trying to curb expenses from its fake account scandal and other high-profile troubles.
Wells Fargo paid $3.3 billion in legal expenses last quarter.
Wells Fargo did not specify how many employees would lose their jobs.
The bank will have about 5,000 branches in the U.S. after it completes the closures, which is still more than any other bank.

A bullied teenager has been stabbed to death at a Dunkin' Donuts after standing up to her tormentors by pepper spraying them.
Valaree Megan Schwab, 16, died in hospital after being attacked which occurred at 12.30pm in New Rochelle, New York, on January 10.
Z'Inah Brown, 16, has been arrested for her death. She allegedly used a steak knife to stab Valaree twice in the upper torso.
Students at the pair's high school told ABC News Schwab was being bullied by Brown and others at the Dunkin' Donuts.
There were five or six teenagers in the group that ganged up on Valaree which included both boys and girls, police said.
Schwab tried to fight them off with pepper spray after being harassed by them on the 10-minute walk down which ended at the Dunkin' Donuts.

Restaurants are under increasing pressure from minimum wage hikes to pay workers more and pass off costs in higher prices for customers, Fox Business reports.
Eighteen states raised their minimum wage at the start of the year, forcing thousands of restaurants to adapt to rising labor costs. However, patrons will only absorb so much of the cost.
“When we increase in prices … we see guest count go down,” “Restaurant Stakeout” host and CEO of Uncle Jack’s Steakhouse Willie Degel told FOX Business. “The consumer is not willing to pay for the experience then.”
Degel predicted a dark future for the restaurant industry if labor costs keep increasing.

TEL AVIV – On Tuesday, Palestinians attempted to bomb Joseph’s Tomb, considered Judaism’s third holiest site, during a visit there earlier today by about 1,000 Jewish pilgrims.

Army sappers detonated a cellphone-operated explosive device that was apparently planted by Palestinians at the entrance to the Joseph’s Tomb holy site in the city of Nablus early Tuesday morning, ahead of a visit by approximately 1,000 Jewish worshippers, the army said.
There were no injuries or significant damage caused by the controlled blast, and the pilgrimage to the shrine continued as planned, an Israel Defense Forces spokesperson said.
The 1,000 or so worshippers were escorted to Joseph’s Tomb — believed to be the burial site of the biblical patriarch — by IDF soldiers, border guards and Israel Police officers, the army said. According to the military, as the group was leaving the area, local residents began to throw rocks at the troops and the buses, causing no injuries, but some light damage to the vehicles.

For decades, researchers and immigration experts alike have warned lawmakers and administrations of the negative impact immigration, both legal and illegal, has on the African-American community.
Two studies from 2008 reviewed in great detail and length just how much black Americans have been kept down economically by a U.S. immigration system that admits more than 1.5 million legal and illegal immigrants a year, with no end in sight.
Cornell University’s Vernon Briggs Jr. wrote in his testimony before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights of how, in 2004, mass immigration to the U.S. had led to black Americans being replaced as the largest minority group in the country, being overtaken by Hispanic-Americans.
“Although black Americans were 13.5 percent of the nation’s native-born population, they were only 7.8 percent of the foreign-born population in 2000,” Briggs noted. “Hispanics, on the other hand, were only 8.5 percent of the native-born population while being 45.2 percent of the foreign-born population.”
In his 2008 testimony, Briggs stated that there was “little doubt that there is significant” impact on African-American workers who generally compete for the same U.S. jobs that illegal aliens and legal immigrants are often looking to get.
Briggs says that this immigration impact makes poor and working-class African-Americans the “major loser” in the workforce.

Attorney General Frosh Urges PSC to Ensure Savings from Tax Cuts are Passed on to Utility Customers
BALTIMORE, MD – In a letter to the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC), Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh urged members of the PSC to ensure utility customers benefit from cost savings to utility companies resulting from recent tax cuts.
In his letter, Attorney General Frosh stated, “As the Commission is aware, legislation reduced the federal corporate income tax rate from 35% to 21% effective January 1, 2018. I write to urge the Public Service Commission to take immediate action to ensure that the cost savings associated with these major tax cuts are passed on to utility customers, where they belong.”

Sen. Fake: 'In No Way' Comparing Trump to Stalin
Outgoing Sen. Jeff Flake, ?-Ariz., said Monday he was "in no way" comparing President Donald Trump to Joseph Stalin, despite a reference to the Soviet dictator in a speech he plans to give Wednesday criticizing Trump for his public comments on the news media.
"Joseph Stalin was a killer; our president is not," Sen. Flake told CNN's Christiane Amanpour on Monday night. "It just puzzles me as to why [Trump] would use a phrase that is so loaded and that has some deeper meaning, the press being the enemy of the people. That is a big concern. What this president does – the most powerful man in the world – has lasting implications and it has implications for journalists worldwide and for our free press in this country.

Wells Just Reported The Worst Mortgage Number Since The Financial Crisis
When we reported Wells Fargo's Q3 earnings back in October, we drew readers' attention to one specific line of business, the one we dubbed the bank's "bread and butter", namely mortgage lending, and which as we then reported was "the biggest alarm" because "as a result of rising rates, Wells' residential mortgage applications and pipelines both tumbled, specifically in Q3 Wells' mortgage applications plunged by $10bn from the prior quarter to $73bn, while the mortgage origination pipeline plunged to just $29 billion", and just shy of the post-crisis lows recorded in late 2013.

Tim Tebow on Confronting Abortion: Doctors Called Me a ‘Tumor’ Not a ‘Baby’
Minor League Baseball player and former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow revealed that he was almost a victim of abortion when doctors told his mother that he was a “tumor” and not a “baby.”
Speaking at the college student conference, 2018 Passion, Tebow told Pastor Louie Giglio that his mother was urged to abort him in 1987, NewsBusters reported.
“I was born in the Philippines to missionary parents, and I have a special birth story,” Tebow told the audience. “The doctors said that I wasn’t even a baby; they said I was a tumor.”
Tebow added that his siblings always joked that he was “Timmy the Tumor” when he was young.

Shelby Steele: Failed NFL Anthem Protests Show Black Protest Has Lost Its Power
Social commentator Shelby Steele recently wrote an editorial for the Wall Street Journal wondering if the protests by black NFL players during the playing of the national anthem, signals the end of any weight being placed on public protests by blacks in America today.
With so many whites turned off by the NFL protests, Steele wonders if white Americans have finally “found the courage” to “judge African-Americans fairly by universal standards.”

Navy SEAL Who Lost Eye in Afghanistan Now Battling for U.S. House Seat
Doctors said he'd never see again, but Crenshaw regained sight in his left eye after undergoing several surgeries and receiving specialized contact lenses. Four months later, fitted with a glass eye and his signature eye patch, Crenshaw was back on the shooting range in Mississippi, training to rejoin his teammates.
Crenshaw, who served combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and held leadership posts in Bahrain and South Korea before medically retiring in 2016, is now battling for a seat in the U.S. House.
"What makes me get up in the morning is knowing I'm doing something for the country and I was not ready to quit that," Crenshaw said. "I think this is why I'm driven to Congress now, because it's another path I can take to make a positive impact on people's lives and serve in a way that is meaningful and push for values that I believe in."

Florida animal cruelty charges after TSA discover a cat
A Florida couple is facing charges of animal cruelty after airport security found a cat in their luggage moments before they were set to take off on a three-hour flight to Florida.
The TSA found the six-month old cat inside the checked luggage, saving the pet from serious injury or even death.
The pet, called Slim, was found was found hidden among clothes and other items in the pair's checked luggage as they prepared to fly from Erie, Pennsylvania to Tampa, Florida, on New Year's Day.

PLEA AGREEMENT REACHED IN FRIENDLY FOOD STORE FIRE
SALISBURY MARYLAND - Court proceedings have concluded in an arson which occurred at the Friendly Food Store located at 900 N. Salisbury Blvd in Salisbury. The fire investigation revealed the business at that address, Friendly Food Store, was intentionally set on fire. Investigators determined an ignitable liquid was used to start a fire in multiple locations. The investigation resulted in the arrest of three suspects which all have now been convicted in Wicomico County Circuit Court.
Mohammad Adeel (39), owner of the Friendly Food Store, plead guilty to 2nd Degree Arson and received a 15 year sentence with all but 15 months suspended.
Timothy E. DeMent (42), plead guilty to 2nd Degree Arson and received a 15 year sentence with all but 15 months suspended.
Mayank R. Kothari (37), plead guilty to Conspiracy to Commit 2nd Degree Arson and received a 15 year sentence with all but 15 months suspended.
Upon release all three will continue to serve 3 years of supervised probation.
The fire was originally dispatched on June 16, 2017 around 12:32 am after a passerby called 911. Upon arrival of the fire department, a small smoldering fire was discovered inside of the establishment. Approximately 17 firefighters from Salisbury Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire within 10 minutes. The fire caused approximately $600 in damages to the building, which is a multi-use business center. The owner of the building, and victim, was identified as Sajjad Shah.

Troopers Arrest Laurel Man For 5th Offense DUI

Laurel- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Laurel man after he was found to be under the influence of alcohol for the 5th time.
The incident occurred on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at approximately 12:05 a.m. as a Trooper was traveling west bound on South Pine Ridge Drive when a 1997 Dodge Pick Up truck emerged from Chelsea Lane, pulling directly in the path of the Trooper’s vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the operator, identified as 39-year-old Sean Michael Dunston of Laurel.
An odor of alcohol was detected and a DUI investigation ensued. A computer check revealed that Dunston had four previous DUI convictions, making this his fifth offense. Dunston was subsequently arrested and transported back to Troop 5 where he was charged with 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (Felony). He was arraigned out of Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute on $6000.00 cash only bond.
West Virginia bill would require all schools to offer a Bible class
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — A bill has been introduced by West Virginia senators that, if passed, would require all schools to provide an elective course on Hebrew scriptures and the Old or New Testaments of the Bible.
It's called Senate Bill 252 and was introduced by Sen. Mike Azinger, R-Wood, and Sen. Sue Cline-R-Wyoming.
They said the bill's purpose is to teach students knowledge of biblical content, characters, poetry and narratives that are pre-requisites to understanding contemporary society and culture.
Under the proposed bill, a student “may not be required to use a specific translation as the sole text of the Hebrew Scriptures or New Testament and may use as the basic textbook a different translation of the Hebrew Scriptures or New Testament from that chosen by the county board or school.”

On January 14, 2018 at approximately 7:15PM the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office assisted the Salisbury Police Department with a separate robbery investigation. During the course of this
investigation three robbery suspects were identified as Brandon Fontaine, Diamond Chaney and Felix Villegas.
Detectives from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, Salisbury Police Department and the Maryland State Police conducted an extensive and coordinated investigation which resulted with Fontaine, Chaney and Villegas being arrested and charged with the armed robbery of the Vintage Beer and Wine which occurred on January 9, 2018. All three subjects were transferred to the custody of the Wicomico County Detention Center.

Another Utility Announces Lower Rates Because of GOP Tax Cut
Energy and heating giant National Grid announced Thursday it will slash a proposed natural gas rate hike ahead of next winter, citing the the passage of a federal tax bill spearheaded by Republicans and signed into law earlier last month by President Donald Trump.
The announcement states that Massachusetts customers can now expect to pay less next winter than originally projected, thanks to the decision to decrease a proposed rate hike by $36 million — from an $87 million increase to a $51 million increase. That’s a drop of about 41 percent.
The new tax reform cuts the American corporate tax rate from 35 percent — the third-highest in the world, trailing only the United Arab Emirates and Puerto Rico — to 21 percent.

"We have an infrastructure problem in this city. There's no question about it. We have some of the oldest pipes in the country," said Mayor Catherine Pugh.
In a District that gets nearly $16,000 per student, the fourth highest nationally according to the U.S. Census, a GoFundMe page was set up to buy space heaters after alarming images hit social media. Calling it an emergency, Governor Larry Hogan gave City Schools $2.5 million to get the heat working.
"Let me be clear, this is not to reward the people responsible who have failed, this funding will help kids freezing in winter,” said Gov. Hogan during a recent press conference.

DOJ Unseals Indictment Involving Uranium One Scandal
The Department of Justice unsealed an 11-count indictment on Friday to a former DoD intelligence analyst-turned uranium transportation executive who stands accused of a bribery and money laundering scheme involving a Russian nuclear official connected to the Uranium One deal.
The indictment corroborates a November report by The Hill that an FBI mole deeply embedded in the Russian uranium industry had gathered extensive evidence of the scheme.
Mark Lambert, 54, of Mount Airy, Maryland, was charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and to commit wire fraud, seven counts of violating the FCPA, two counts of wire fraud and one count of international promotion money laundering.

DHS preparing to arrest leaders of sanctuary cities
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen confirmed Tuesday that her department has asked federal prosecutors to see if they can lodge criminal charges against sanctuary cities that refuse to cooperate with federal deportation efforts.
“The Department of Justice is reviewing what avenues may be available,” Ms. Nielsen told the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Her confirmation came after California’s new sanctuary law went into effect Jan. 1, severely restricting cooperation the state or any of its localities could offer.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan says those policies put his officers and local communities at more risk because they have to arrest illegal immigrants out in the community.
Mr. Homan told The Washington Times last July that he wanted to see local officials charged as complicit in human smuggling if they shielded illegal immigrants through sanctuary policies.

Google refers to Republican senator David Perdue as 'lying, unscrupulous politician'
Google referred to Sen. David Perdue on Tuesday as a “lying, unscrupulous politician” when the Republican senator’s name was searched.
The “knowledge graph” on the right side of the search page said “David Alfred Perdue Jr. is an American businessman and lying, unscrupulous politician. He is a junior United States Senator from Georgia, having been elected in 2014 to the seat previously held by Saxby Chambliss, who retired.”
Wikipedia was cited as the source, but the senator’s Wikipedia page did not use such wording as of Tuesday morning.

John Stossel: SPLC Is A 'Hate Group,' 'Money Grabbing, Slander Machine'
In a short for Reason Magazine, John Stossel slammed the Southern Poverty Law Center as a “hate group” and a “money grabbing slander machine” which “profits off hate.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center lists Ayaan Hirsi Ali — who grew up Muslim in Somalia and suffered female genital mutilation — as an “anti-Muslim extremist.” Just because she now speaks out against radical Islam.
They also list the conservative Family Research Council as a “hate group.”
That listing led a man to go to the Council’s office to try to gun down their workers. The shooter later told law enforcement that he picked the group because he saw they were on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s hate map and he wanted to fight bigots.
