Statement from Governor Larry Hogan on Amazon’s Selection of Maryland for HQ2 Shortlist

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today issued the following statement following Amazon’s announcement that Montgomery County has been selected as a potential site for its second headquarters:

“This is tremendous news for Montgomery County, our entire state, and further proof that Maryland is truly open for business. Maryland put forward an extremely strong group of sites that were all supported by the state with incentive packages totaling more than $5 billion, including road and transit improvements. Going forward, we will continue working with our partners in Montgomery County, including County Executive Ike Leggett and his team, to ensure that we do everything possible to bring this project home. This news is certainly welcome, but the real challenge lies ahead – and Maryland is ready to meet it.”

South Florida made the list and Bezos went to high school in Miami. Average salary at Amazon HQ is $100k. Definitely not coming to the eastern shore.

Why is the government in the job buying business???

To even consider Baltimore as having a shot at the location is a laugh. Baltimore has the highest per capita murder rate, #1 in bedbugs, average recent high school 'gradate' functions just above the 3rd grade in reading and math, car- jacking is a local pastime, junkies and drug dealers on every corner, city infrastructure decades behind in repairs. Don't forget there is a complete lack of decent livable housing to accommodate a large influx of people who actually want to work...

Montgomery county was once considered a county to live but it is crime infested why Montgomery county I'll never know. I believe the Eastern shore would be your best bet - workers who want to work and would do the job. Not druggies from across the bridge.

Geniuses...please read carefully. Amazon has said Montgomery County is the potential site in Maryland. Not Baltimore, not the Eastern Shore. So of course Hogan is going to try and get them, because MoCo is the only place they picked. And crime is bad in certain parts of MoCo, just like it's bad in certain parts of Wicomico. There are plenty of great places there, just like most places.

And why is government in the job buying business? Is that even a real question? To employ the citizens, cleary. More people employed=stronger state economy. Further, landing Amazon would be huge, as it would create many other jobs to support this location.

Amazon is looking for a site that has a well educated population. Montgomery County has one of the highest percentages of people with college degrees. They're not just opening a distribution center where they need people to work in a warehouse.
