Police say a 69-year-old woman from Palm Springs has been arrested after her husband reported that she tried to cut off his penis with a large pair of scissors.
Palm Springs police said in a statement Sunday that Virginia Valdez was arrested on suspicion of mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and spousal abuse.

BURTONSVILLE, Md. - From what he remembers, and it isn't much, Cameron Williams was cold.
On a steaming autumn day last year in Burtonsville, the 13-year-old shivered as he walked back to his Unity Thunder football team's huddle, barely able to keep his eyes open. Dizzy, he'd been hit hard - really hard - twice that game.
His head ached for relief, but he knew how football players were supposed to act. How pain was a part of the game. Then he took two more vicious hits at practice the next day, and Cameron realized it was time to tell someone how much he was hurting.
His mother whisked him away to the family doctor, who told Cameron he'd been concussed twice in the past week.
Because of the undeveloped nature of their bodies, youth like Cameron could be at a higher risk for concussions than their professional counterparts, according to medical experts.
But of the estimated 4.5 million children who play organized youth football in the United States, his experiences aren't altogether uncommon. A 2006 study by the National Center for Injury Prevention found that 47 percent of high school football players sustain a concussion each season, and 35 percent of players said they had more than one in the same season.

Washington - Roughly 3,000 unemployed workers from around the country are expected in the nation's capitol next week for four days of protests with labor, religious and social justice groups that say Congress cares more about America's wealthiest 1 percent than it does the masses of struggling middle-class families.
Piggybacking on the Occupy Wall Street movement, the three-day "Take Back the Capitol" protest will open Monday with construction of a "Peoples Camp" on the National Mall as a base of operations. On Tuesday, protesters will hit Capitol Hill to lobby members of Congress about extending federal unemployment benefits. The group walks to K Street on Wednesday to protest the political influence of corporate lobbyists.
And on Thursday, they'll host a national prayer vigil for the unemployed on Capitol Hill. At the same time, the AFL-CIO will coordinate simultaneous protests at congressional district offices across the country to call for extending unemployment benefits that are slated to expire Dec. 31 without congressional action.

Asian Americans Want A Fair Shake
Asian American federal employees want to increase their ranks within the Senior Executive Service. Asians represent 6 percent of the total workforce, but only 3 percent of the SES. The Asian American Government Executives Network launches a program to give 20 Asian-American employees one-on-one mentoring and training. A former MF Global employee accused former president Bill Clinton of collecting $50,000 per month through his Teneo advisory firm in the months before the brokerage careened towards its Halloween filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, reports Human Events.
Teneo was hired by MF Global’s former CEO Jon S. Corzine to improve his image and to enhance his connections with Clinton’s political family, said the employee, who asked that his name be withheld because he feared retribution, according to HE.
The Teneo contract with MF Global lasted at least five months, the souce said. “The board cancelled it after Corzine resigned.”
The source, who is no longer associated with MF Global, said Teneo is a dual-track company with one side devoted to merchant and investment banking and the other side set up to provide image and strategy consulting services.

Since the start of the Second Great Depression, food stamp participation has increased by 18.7 million, and is now at an all time higher 46.3 million. All Bush's fault, or something. At least the chart below appears to be plateauing... Actually, sorry, no isn't.

The military is planning a $300 million intelligence campus in Bethesda, Md. The Army Corps of Engineers and the Defense Intelligence agencies are working together to overhaul a 40-acre, 870-thousand square foot space vacated by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The project would house a hub of the federal government's intelligence-gathering agencies. Washington Business Journal reports, plans it could take five years to develop and means up to 3,000 workers may have to move off MacArthur Boulevard and Sangamore Road for some time.

It was a dream come true for jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts. A team based in San Francisco has claimed a $50,000 prize for successfully un-shredding destroyed documents. The reward was part of a challenge staged by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. A Miami mom was arrested and charged with trying to sell her 8-month-old son for $7,000, authorities said Monday.
Kenia Quiala Bosque, 30, was arrested Sunday after an investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Authorities say Bosque, of Hialeah, had arranged to meet a Monroe County man in Miami on Saturday to exchange the child for the money.

Guns. As KNDU reports, "Gun dealers flooded the FBI with background check requests from shoppers, smashing the single day record with a 32% increase from last year." USA Today [9]has more: "Deputy Assistant FBI Director Jerry Pender said the checks, required by federal law, surged to 129,166 during the day, far surpassing the previous high of 97,848 on Black Friday of 2008." And in reality, the number is likely far greater: "The actual number of firearms sold last Friday is likely higher because multiple firearms can be included in a transaction by a single buyer. And the FBI does not track actual gun sales." And while Saudi Arabia is warning that women driving leads to the end of the world, in America women are now the marginal guy buyer: "Some gun industry analysts attributed the unusual surge to a convergence of factors, including an increasing number of first-time buyers seeking firearms for protection and women who are being drawn to sport shooting and hunting. A chance encounter with Vice President Dick Cheney at a shopping center in Colorado allowed Steven Howards to express his disgust with the Iraq war, the Associated Press reports. It also led to Howards' arrest by Secret Service agents. Five years later, Howards' claim that the agents detained him because of his criticism could come up before the Supreme Court. We'll find out today if they'll take up the case.

USPS Wants To Close Half Their Mail Processing Centers
The Postal Service is pushing ahead with plans to reduce costs and avoid bankruptcy, the Associated Press reports. That means closing about half the mail processing centers across the country and lowering delivery standards for first-class mail.
Currently, first-class mail is supposed to be delivered to homes and businesses within the continental U.S. in one day to three days. That will lengthen to two days to three days. The estimated $3 billion in reductions, are expected to be announced in broader detail later today.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) -- Delaware plans a gun buyback event at churches in Wilmington and near New Castle this month to take weapons off the streets.

In the first week of the Silver Glove's amateur boxing tounament, Corey Moore, of Salisbury, picked up a well deserved win in the 14-15 year old 100lb. division, against a game Dimetrius Young of Sugar Ray Leonard's gym in Landover MD. Moore, who boxes out of the Main St Gym, avenged a prior loss to Young at a time that can lead to a regional and/or a national Silver Glove Championship.
The tournament is being held at the Rosecroft Raceway in Oxon Hill MD. and will move into it's second week on December 17th.
The tournament,originally scheduled to run on December 10th, was rescheduled to accommodate so many close ties to the title fight between Lamont Peterson, of D.C and Amir Kahn of the U.K. Other local fighters on that card include Salisbury's Fernando Guerrero, Anthony Peterson, of D.C, Seth Mitchell of Brandywine MD. and Dusty Harrison of D.C. and others.
This is a unique Championship card, in that one side of the entire event is made up of local fighters from Maryland and Washington D.C.

Someone has to sanitize websites' comment boards. The toil and thick skins of online moderators.
In a cabana in Progreso, Mexico, overlooking the blue waters of the Gulf, Canadian Chuck Dueck cracks open his laptop and logs into the comment forums of several news websites. Over at cbc.ca, home to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., an article on child obesity has drawn this gem, “It is VERY simple. People who are FAT eat too much. There were no fat Jews in Auschwitz—they did not have much food. Stop eating so much!” At npr.org, one comment is directed specifically at Dueck. “GO F- -K YOUR SELF A- -HOLE, You are making me hate this site!!! F-G!”
One by one, Dueck, a professional online moderator, deletes these comments, scolds the people behind them (either on the forum or over e-mail), and, if things really get out of hand—say, in the case of repeat offenders—bans their accounts. In a cabana in Progreso, Mexico, overlooking the blue waters of the Gulf, Canadian Chuck Dueck cracks open his laptop and logs into the comment forums of several news websites. Over at cbc.ca, home to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., an article on child obesity has drawn this gem, “It is VERY simple. People who are FAT eat too much. There were no fat Jews in Auschwitz—they did not have much food. Stop eating so much!” At npr.org, one comment is directed specifically at Dueck. “GO F- -K YOUR SELF A- -HOLE, You are making me hate this site!!! F-G!”
One by one, Dueck, a professional online moderator, deletes these comments, scolds the people behind them (either on the forum or over e-mail), and, if things really get out of hand—say, in the case of repeat offenders—bans their accounts. A senior Iranian military official says Iran's Army has shot down a remote-controlled reconnaissance drone operated by the US military in the eastern part of the country.

Family with a 7 yr old daughter who is receiving services, she has been asking for a TV for Christmas but the family is unable to afford one. They do not own any other TV's.
Family with a 15 yr old son who is receiving services, he is also asking for a TV for Christmas and the family can not afford one. He is residing with his elderly grandmother who is in poor health and this boy helps to take care of her. He spends a lot of time at home because he is afraid to leave her and a TV would give him some entertainment :)
We are helping a family who has been homeless for a couple months. Mom and her 2 children were living in a hotel and had to leave because it was so expensive they are now staying with a friend. When they were evicted, they lost all their furniture. She has just found an apt to move in to next week, but has no furniture, tv, kids stuff or anything. This tv would greatly help make their Christmas awesome!!
We have another single mother of three that is moving into a new apartment and doesn't have money to purchase a tv for her family. This would be a great surprise for them!
The last family is a single mother of 6 getting ready to move from a friends house into her own home and can not afford a tv for the family because she has been saving all of her money for rent and used furniture.

Vice President Joe Biden, now best known for being the man who relies primarily on Jon Corzine for financial advice, [7]continued his recent roll of epic linguistic blunders this morning. As Reuters reports, the VP, "joked during a visit to debt-choked Athens on Monday about bringing money to help Greece out of its deepest financial crisis in decades. Introducing a member of his delegation during a meeting with Greek President Karolos Papoulias, Biden said: "This man represents the Treasury department. He's brought hundreds of millions of dollars." His comments drew laughs from both the Greek and U.S. delegations." It is unclear if the Greeks laughed because the noted number was orders of magnitude less than what would be needed to actually put a dent in the Greek fast-motion train wreck, or because everyone was waiting to see what the American taxpayer's response would be to learn that while America is hopelessly locked in gridlock of releasing more cash to that country's middle class, the US Treasury is quite happy to disburse taxpayer funding to Greece. One of my neighbors, has lost her Chihuahua puppy and is desperate to find him.
Yesterday, she was sitting on the couch watching TV and
realized he was gone. She called out to him and he never responded.
She then noticed the back door was open. She has been putting up
signs everywhere in an effort to have him returned.
He answers to the name of Tiny.

Wilmington-Troopers have charged a 49 year old Garnet Valley, PA woman with DUI following a single vehicle crash that occurred on I95 Saturday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. as a 2006 Honda Pilot being operated by Melissa P. Megee-49 of Garnet Valley, PA was traveling I95 northbound, just North of US 202. The Honda Pilot traveled off of the left (West) edge of the roadway onto the center grass median. The Honda Pilot continued to travel northeast on the grass median where it eventually reentered and crossed the northbound lanes of I95 with the Honda’s front right striking the guardrail on the right shoulder. The Honda flipped over the guardrail and overturned down an embankment, coming to rest on its wheels. Megee, who was not properly restrained, was trapped in the vehicle, wedged underneath of the dashboard for approximately 20 minutes before being extricated by firefighters and EMS personnel.
Megee was transported to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center by Delaware State Police Helicopter Trooper 4 where she was admitted with non life threatening injuries.
Megee was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and was charged with DUI, Fail to Remain within a Single Lane, and for not wearing a seatbelt. I95 northbound was closed initially, and then reopened with limited lane restrictions for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
“As the holiday season approaches, Troopers remind drivers to make the responsible decision and designate a driver.
Delaware Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelt. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.”

A Maryland man is under arrest and charged with sexual assault of a minor after the teens parents notified State Police.
A state police investigation determined 18 year old Alvero Domingo of Centerville met the 13 year old victim at a residence in Hartly on November 29 where a sexual assault occurred.

Postal Service Cuts Mean Slower Mail In 2012
WASHINGTON - Unprecedented cuts by the cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service will slow first-class delivery next spring and, for the first time in 40 years, eliminate the chance for stamped letters to arrive the next day.
The estimated $3 billion in reductions, to be announced in broader detail later Monday, are part of a wide-ranging effort by the Postal Service to quickly trim costs and avert bankruptcy. They could slow everything from check payments to Netflix's DVDs-by-mail, add costs to mail-order prescription drugs, and threaten the existence of newspapers and time-sensitive magazines delivered by postal carrier to far-flung suburban and rural communities.

Since the Daily Times has become so politically incorrect many readers have asked me to publish some of the Grapevine questions/statements in order to allow comments from BOTH sides. You see, the problem here is the fact that the Daily Times has so conveniently gone to Facebook for comments. Sine then, only their special interest people have been commenting. The Salisbury City Council is again requesting a tax differential from the county. The solution to this is simple: Salisbury needs to live up to its promise and begin to consolidate services such as police, wastewater and human resources. Then no differential would be necessary.
Comments:
Nice idea, consolidating city and county services, however, the county won't touch the idea until the wastewater treatment debacle is resolved. An $83 million dollar plant that doesn't work and is in need of at least $65 million in changes to make it work is not something that the county, or its taxpayers, will touch with a ten foot pole. And by the way, the Mayor, not the Council, initiated the request to the county, but the Council signed off on it.

Who's on the City Council trying to make a power grab? Put it on a ballot to get an attorney. If they want an attorney, they should pay for it out of their own pockets.

That would be Laura Mitchell. And, just so we're clear on this point, by Charter before the amendment, the Council was supposed to have free access to the city attorney. The Mayor wouldn't allow it, and heavily filtered all the information the attorney gave to the Council. The charter change took care of that problem. Laura Mitchell understands this, but is, like Mike Dunn, Louise Smith, Shanie Shields, Lynn Cathcart and others, an unapologetic tool of Big Money in Salisbury, and will create conflict where none should exist just to get Council off track and feather her own political nest and fill the pockets of her political buddies.

Police have made arrests after members of the "Occupy DC" protest group constructed a wooden structure without a permit in McPherson Square overnight.
Park Police initially gave protestors one hour to dismantle the structure, but their request was refused. A few protestors began scuffling with police, after which arrests were made. Officers on horseback were also seen pushing the crowd back.
A group of six protestors were seen on the roof of the 30-foot-high building while police kept the crowd back with caution tape and tore out pieces of wood from the bottom of the structure. 15 other protestors were seen inside the structure. More arrests were made after protestors attempted to break through the tape to aid the protestors on the roof.
Shortly after noon Sunday, the protest group reported that three arrests had been made, according to Tim Craig of The Washington Post. However, that number was likely to increase as the afternoon went on.

Seaford-Troopers are investigating a serious crash involving a motorcycle that occurred on Friday night in Seaford.
The crash occurred on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 7:10 p.m. as Perry S. Givens-52 of Seaford was operating a 2007 Harley Davidson Motorcycle, exiting the parking lot of the Woodshed Bar and Package Store located on Bridgeville Highway. Preliminary investigation indicates that Givens pulled from the parking lot at a high rate of speed onto southbound Bridgeville Highway and lost control of the motorcycle. Givens was ejected from the motorcycle onto the roadway.
Givens was transported by Delaware State Police Helicopter Trooper 2 to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was admitted in serious condition.
Preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol is considered a factor in this crash. Givens was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Troopers continue to investigate this crash.

10 Year-Old Boy Commits Suicide
Authorities in Milwaukee are investigating the apparent suicide of a 10-year-old boy Saturday night, according to a report on WTMJ-TV, an NBC affiliate in Wisconsin.
The child's mother called 911 after finding him unresponsive in their home near 7th and Chambers on Milwaukee's north side, the station reported.

BRIEF RESUME:
On the above date and time, a Trooper from the Salisbury Barrack stopped a 1995 Volvo for a traffic violation. Indicators of criminal activity were being exhibited by the driver and passenger which led to the Trooper to ask for consent to search the vehicle. The Trooper observed un-opened packs of cigarettes in the vehicle, however both of the occupants stated that they did not smoke. During the consent search of the vehicle, the Trooper located 115 cartons of brand name cigarettes along with 20 separate packs of cigarettes not in a carton. The cigarettes were stamped with Virginia tax stamps. Both occupants were placed under arrest. A search of their person revealed handwritten order lists for specific cartons of cigarettes. Both suspects were debriefed and admitted that they make routine trips to Virginia to purchase cigarettes at a lower cost for resale in the State of New York. Agents from the Maryland State Comptroller’s Office are continuing the investigation along with seizing the cigarettes, the suspects U.S. currency and the vehicle used to transport the cigarettes. Both suspects were transported to the Wicomico County Detention center and released pending a hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

2. Derrick Hudson, B/M, age 50 of Rockaway Park, New York.

Kent County SPCA gets 2012 Dog-Control Contract
GEORGETOWN — Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary of Sussex County was hoping to bid on the county’s 2012 animal control contract, but council voted unanimously to extend Kent County’s SPCA contract for a third and final year at a cost of nearly $670,000.
Council said Safe Haven was not yet ready to handle thousands of animals. The county will release a request for bids in mid-2012 for the 2013 contract.

Dec. 5 (Bloomberg) -- China rejected a preliminary ruling by a U.S. trade panel that imports of Chinese solar panels are harming the domestic industry, saying the decision shows the country’s “inclination to trade protectionism.”
The U.S. International Trade Commission on Dec. 2 took the first step toward imposing added tariffs on Chinese solar imports, voting unanimously in Washington on a petition by Bonn- based SolarWorld AG that called for antidumping and countervailing duties. The commission will now hold a full investigation.

The fund was created to assist Alan and Kristin Hudson, a beleaguered Maryland farm family who are the target of a misguided Waterkeeper Alliance lawsuit. The Maryland Farm Bureau fundraiser on December 5th comes as the deep-pocketed Waterkeeper Alliance spends the weekend of December 2-5 fundraising with celebrities at the lavish Deer Valley ski resort in Utah.

The Hudsons, based in Berlin, Md., have become entangled in a prolonged litigation battle with the Waterkeeper Alliance which has them facing bankruptcy. The Waterkeepers have persisted with an environmental lawsuit against Hudsons for alleged Clean Water Act violations despite the fact that the issue was resolved to the Maryland Department of the Environment’s satisfaction.
Last month, Maryland Governor O’Malley announced his support of the Hudsons in this legal battle that has implications for the entire agriculture community. In a letter to Phoebe Haddon, dean of the University of Maryland School of Law, Governor O’Malley raised concerns over whether the Waterkeeper Alliance could substantiate their claims and suggested that they were benefitting from “the economic weapon of unlimited litigation resources”.
The Hudsons are facing overwhelming legal bills while the Waterkeeper Alliance is being aided by the University of Maryland environmental law clinic. The law school is taxpayer funded and a number of the lawyers identified as legal representatives of the Waterkeepers in court filings are employees of the law school receiving full salary and benefits from the State of Maryland. Further, the New York-based Waterkeeper Alliance raised more than $3.5 million in 2009 according to tax records available online.
“The disparity in funding in this battle is one of the reasons we launched SaveFarmFamilies.org,” said Lee Richardson, president of the Wicomico County (Md.) Each member received a new dress uniform with a jacket, pants, dress shirt, patent leather shoes, hats, white gloves, socks, tie and 2 sets of jewelry for the shirts and jackets. All of that came in just in time for the Salisbury Christmas Parade to show off to the citizen how appreciative they are of using their hard earned tax dollars. believed to have destroyed Isfahan’s large conversion center as well as stored uranium.
This has struck terror in the hearts of Iranian nuclear chiefs,” an intelligence source said.
The sources said the explosion was the work of a “sophisticated bombing squad” that penetrated Isfahan’s formidable defenses. Citing analysis of Western satellite imagery, they said the explosion rocked Iran’s largest city with smoke and debris.
This marked the second explosion at a major Iranian weapons facility in less than a month, Middle East Newsline reported. On Nov. 12, a base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was destroyed in a mysterious explosion, which also killed the head of the nation’s ballistic missile program, Maj. Gen. Hassan Moghaddam. STATE POLICE AND STATE FIRE MARSHAL INVESTIGATE HOUSE FIRE AND SUSPICIOUS DEATH IN QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY
(Stevensville, MD) – Maryland State Police and the Office of the State Fire Marshal are conducting an investigation into a house fire and suspicious death in Queen Anne’s County today.
The deceased, found inside a burnt home in the 200-block of Queen Anne Club Drive in Stevensville, has not been positively identified at this time. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for identification and autopsy.
Shortly after 12 noon today, firefighters from multiple volunteer fire departments were called to the scene of a two alarm fire in a residential subdivision of Stevensville. Upon their arrival, firefighters entered the two- story wood frame home and found the deceased individual on the second level of the home, in the master bedroom on the floor. It took approximately one hour for the firefighters to control the blaze.
The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation. Investigators determined the approximate value loss for this fire is $550,000.
Three firefighters were treated for injuries during the incident. Two volunteer firefighters from the United Communities Volunteer Fire Department were treated for heat exhaustion on the scene and released. One firefighter from Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department was transported to Queen Anne’s Medical Center for debris in his eye.
About seventy-five firefighters responded to the scene. Units who responded include the United Communities, Grasonville, Queenstown, Centreville, Crumpton, Anne Arundel County, Annapolis City, Kent Island and the Naval Academy Volunteer Fire Department.
Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, forensic analysts from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division and investigators from the Centreville Barracks responded to the scene to investigate the suspicious death. Deputy Fire Marshals and the K-9 Unit from the Office of the State Fire Marshal responded to conduct the fire investigation. State police crime scene technicians continue to process the scene for evidence as the investigation continues...
The deceased, found inside a burnt home in the 200-block of Queen Anne Club Drive in Stevensville, has not been positively identified at this time. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for identification and autopsy.
Shortly after 12 noon today, firefighters from multiple volunteer fire departments were called to the scene of a two alarm fire in a residential subdivision of Stevensville. Upon their arrival, firefighters entered the two- story wood frame home and found the deceased individual on the second level of the home, in the master bedroom on the floor. It took approximately one hour for the firefighters to control the blaze.
The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation. Investigators determined the approximate value loss for this fire is $550,000.
Three firefighters were treated for injuries during the incident. Two volunteer firefighters from the United Communities Volunteer Fire Department were treated for heat exhaustion on the scene and released. One firefighter from Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department was transported to Queen Anne’s Medical Center for debris in his eye.
About seventy-five firefighters responded to the scene. Units who responded include the United Communities, Grasonville, Queenstown, Centreville, Crumpton, Anne Arundel County, Annapolis City, Kent Island and the Naval Academy Volunteer Fire Department.
Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, forensic analysts from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division and investigators from the Centreville Barracks responded to the scene to investigate the suspicious death. Deputy Fire Marshals and the K-9 Unit from the Office of the State Fire Marshal responded to conduct the fire investigation. Moreover, Romney has profited from the temporary rise and spontaneous combustion of Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry and Herman Cain. It required no exertion on Romney's part.
Enter Gingrich, the current vessel for anti-Romney forces -- and likely the final one. Gingrich's obvious weakness is a history of flip-flops, zigzags and mind changes even more extensive than Romney's -- on climate change, the health care mandate, cap-and-trade, Libya, the Ryan Medicare plan, etc.
The list is long. But what distinguishes Gingrich from Romney -- and mitigates these heresies in the eyes of conservatives -- is that he authored a historic conservative triumph: the 1994 Republican takeover of the House after 40 years of Democratic control.
Which means that Gingrich's apostasies are seen as deviations from his conservative core -- while Romney's flip-flops are seen as deviations from ... nothing. Romney has no signature achievement, legislation or manifesto that identifies him as a core conservative.
So what is he? A center-right, classic Northeastern Republican who, over time, has adopted a specific, quite bold, thoroughly conservative platform. His entitlement reform, for example, is more courageous than that of any candidate, including Barack Obama. "Chuck, Dr. Oz initiated a media and health frenzy when he claimed that common apple juices contain arsenic. Do you have any thoughts on the juice wars?" –- Concerned for Concentrate," Battle Creek, Mich.
Dr. Oz received significant flak when he reported in September that "some of the best-known brands of apple juice contain arsenic." Since then, however, Oz has been redeemed and his claims substantiated!
After Oz's initial comments, Dr. Richard Besser, a 13-year veteran of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and ABC News' chief health and medical editor, publicly lambasted Oz and his warnings as "extremely irresponsible" and "fear-mongering" and equated them to yelling "Fire!" in a movie theater. Amid the public debate, the Food and Drug Administration tried to steady the apple cart by saying that consumption of apple juice "poses little or no risk."
But just a few days ago, I watched a humbled Besser on "Good Morning America" recant his fury against Oz's conclusions, saying instead that new studies have just confirmed arsenic is indeed in many popular apple juices.
ABC News reported that Consumer Reports tested 88 samples of popular brands of grape and apple juice sold in the U.S., including Welch's, Minute Maid and Mott's. The results revealed that 10 percent of the juices "had total arsenic levels greater than the FDA's standard for drinking water of 10 parts per billion (ppb), while 25 percent of juices also had lead levels higher than the FDA's bottled water limit of 5 ppb."
Furthermore, data on arsenic in adult urine from the CDC demonstrated that men and women who drank apple or grape juice in a 24-hour period "had, on average, about 20 percent higher levels of total urinary arsenic than those subjects who did not."
Consumer Reports went on to report that the arsenic tested and detected is inorganic and a human carcinogen. CR further explained that there is "mounting scientific evidence suggesting that chronic exposure to arsenic and lead even at levels below federal standards for water can result in serious health problems, especially for those who are exposed in the womb or during early childhood. FDA data and other research reveal that arsenic has been detected at disturbing levels in other foods as well."

The Chinese have called it their “Underground Great Wall” — a vast network of tunnels designed to hide their country’s increasingly sophisticated missile and nuclear arsenal.
For the past three years, a small band of obsessively dedicated students at Georgetown University has called it something else: homework.
Led by their hard-charging professor, a former top Pentagon official, they have translated hundreds of documents, combed through satellite imagery, obtained restricted Chinese military documents and waded through hundreds of gigabytes of online data.
The result of their effort? The largest body of public knowledge about thousands of miles of tunnels dug by the Second Artillery Corps, a secretive branch of the Chinese military in charge of protecting and deploying its ballistic missiles and nuclear warheads.
The study is yet to be released, but already it has sparked a congressional hearing and been circulated among top officials in the Pentagon, including the Air Force vice chief of staff.
Most of the attention has focused on the 363-page study’s provocative conclusion — that China’s nuclear arsenal could be many times larger than the well-established estimates of arms-control experts.
In December 2009, just as the students began making progress, the Chinese military admitted for the first time that the Second Artillery had indeed been building a network of tunnels. According to a report by state-run CCTV, China had more than 3,000 miles of tunnels — roughly the distance between Boston and San Francisco — including deep underground bases that could withstand multiple nuclear attacks.
“One thing his report accomplishes, I think, is it highlights the uncertainty about what China has,” said Mark Stokes, executive director of the Project 2049 Institute, a think tank. “There’s no question China’s been investing in tunnels, and to look at those efforts and pose this question is worthwhile.”
This year, the Defense Department’s annual report on China’s military highlighted for the first time the Second Artillery’s work on new tunnels, partly a result of Karber’s report, according to some Pentagon officials. And in the spring, shortly before a visit to China, some in the office of then-Defense Secretary Robert Gates were briefed on the study.

Supreme Court Rules Obama Ineligible!
According to the United States Supreme Court, Obama is ineligible to be the President. That’s right, you read that correctly. The United States Supreme Court has ruled that Obama is ineligible to serve as President.
It’s not that you haven’t been paying attention lately and yes, you can be excused for missing the ruling as it came down, not in the last few days but back in 1875.
This is the argument currently being made by the Liberty Legal Foundation.
The Liberty Legal Foundation has filed not 1 but 2 lawsuits, one in Arizona and the other in Tennessee neither of which have one single thing to do with Obama’s birth certificate OR challenging whether or not Obama was born in the United States.
There is no need for either in regard to these lawsuits.
At the core of this action is a simple request that Federal courts uphold the Supreme Court ruling. Both lawsuits, and the Liberty Legal Foundation promises there will be more, would render it impossible for the Democratic National Committee to place Obama’s name on the 2012 ballot.
Here’s the crux of it.

“Natural Born Citizen” was defined as children born of two U.S. citizens – regardless of the location of the birth. It found: “The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also.”

China Hits Back At US - China tells U.S. that it should "objectively analyse why some of its solar panel firms lack competitiveness."
A decision rendered Friday by the US Trade Commission has sparked heated response from Chinese officials about America's solar industry - and other US Industries in general.
The U.S. trade commission voted 6-0 that there was a reasonable indication that SolarWorld Industries America and other U.S. producers had been harmed by the imports or could have been.
However, China claims that; "China is deeply concerned with the decision, which does not tally with facts and highlights the United States' strong tendency for trade protectionism."
(Authors note) - Maybe the time has finally come to examine why all of the exodus of US businesses from our Country. Locally - our area has lost almost 100 mainstream businesses as a result of over-regulation, or as what most people would describe as a 'hostile' US business enviroment. From the EPA, to OSHA, MOSHA, etc. - our new found 'Keynesian economy' now resembles the former soviet block republic.

Berstler is slated to take over January 2, 2012.
Berstler, who attended Lancaster Bible College for her undergraduate degree and received her Master of Library Science (MLS), Summa Cum Laude, at Kutztown University, previously served as Director of the Village Library of Morgantown, PA. She also holds certifications as both a teacher and professional librarian with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
"Ms. Berstler is a proven community leader, with over 16 years experience in the library and education profession," said Board of Trustees president Valerie Murphy. "Her specific areas of expertise include library marketing, outreach initiatives and services, and cultivating community partners beneficial to the library's mission."
Since 2008, Andrea has been a member of the board for the Association for Rural & Small Libraries, an American Libraries Association affiliate organization. Having served as Secretary, Treasurer and Chair of the Conference Committee twice, she is the current Vice-President/President Elect. She also represents the ARSL as a member of the ALA Roundtable for Rural, Native and Tribal Libraries of All Kinds. Watch the Skies: Strange Object Crashes Through Mass. Roof
A mysterious object fell from the sky yesterday, crashing through the roof of Michael’s Wholesale Furniture Distributors in Plymouth, Mass., leaving a small hole in the roof and scattering debris throughout a closet, but otherwise leaving workers unharmed.
The cylindrical hunk of metal was about six inches long and weighed roughly five pounds. It crashed through the roof, either Wednesday or Thursday according to local authorities.
