There was this fat kid in my eight grade gym class and every time he would pull up with his arm he passed gas. The higher he went the louder it was. Poor guy passed away a few years ago but I still get a chuckle thinking about it.
Northwest Woodsman: Snow Hill High School circa 1950s, must have been at least thirty feet to the top of the rope. Because I weighed only 125 pounds they and had good upper body strength, I easily climbed and touched the ceiling. Don’t recall any safety concerns back then and no one was ever injured.

Do they still do this? Or are they afraid the students who can’t do it will feel bad about themselves?
I climbed those ropes at James M Bennett many times. There were no excuses not to back then.
And the Crossfit folks think they discovered something!! Lol
Yup. I remember climbing the rope as a part of the President’s Physical Fitness Program.
Loved it. I climbed to the top and hung on the rafters.

Oh no, ropes hanging from the ceiling, I need 3 weeks off work. Oh the horror.
It's nice that he left you with a happy memory.
2:26 its the crossfit folks that still climb the rope and flip the tires
You'd have to put their phone at the top to get any kid these days to exert or challenge themselves that way.
Yup, I climbed all the way to the top and got a sliver in my finger that turned in to a major infection that needed surgery.
Dirty filthy rope!
Remember it well. Skinny kid who wasn't very strong - that's me. How ever our Gymnastics teacher couldn't do it either - she was to fat and t old😂😂
Maybe your kids. My daughters hands are registered weapons.

Your kids can still do this in any gymnastics class (without a safety harness either).
