Yes I remember. After 11 rates went down even more. We had what we called a "Bonnie Call." When our relatives left to go home which was a few hours away to know they arrived home safely they would call collect to us. The operation would say collect call from Bonnie will you accept. We didn't accept because it was just a way to let us know they arrived home.

I do.I also remember when special interests did not apply to the release of information following a traffic accident.Just leaving it at "under investigation"until everyone forgets about it is not appropriate.

Absolutely and on Sunday nights!

Ma Bell ran such a scam!!! She funneled all of use like cattle to slaughter - until she was finally busted up for much needed competition!

Some could argue that the breakup began the craziness that is cell phone usage!

Do miss the rotaries!

And I remember when Intrastate long distance phone calls were way more expensive per minute that interstate calls. I could call by brother in Hawaii and speak for an hour, for less than talking to another relative in Western MD for 10 minutes. THAT was regulation for ya. Snow Hill was long distance from Crisfield, but Salisbury was a local call. When I would come in from boating on the bay after dark, I would call a relative in Salisbury, and ask them to call my mother in Snow Hill to let her know I was in safely off the water. And all I needed was a quarter for the pay phone.

Actually made a long distance call from Iowa to Oregon on my grandmother's crank phone when I was a kid. That was somethin' else, turning the crank to ring an operator. Thing didn't even have a dial.
