New Emergency Regulations for Hooks, Bait, Striped Bass — May 16 through Oct. 12

The Administrative, Executive and Legislative Review Committee has approved emergency regulations pertaining to hooks, bait and striped bass. The committee has approved these regulations on a temporary basis through Oct. 12, 2018.

Effective May 16, in the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries:
  1. Anglers must use circle hooks when live-lining or chumming;
  2. Anglers must use circle hooks or "J" hooks when using fish, crabs or worms as bait, or when using processed baits; and
  3. The minimum size for striped bass is 19 inches.
Additionally, the department is moving forward with the normal regulation process, which would keep these temporary regulations effective through the 2018 and 2019 fishing seasons.

The department is accepting public comment on these regulatory changes through May 29, 2018, and has also scheduled a hearing, which will be held at 6 p.m. May 17, 2018, at the Annapolis Friends Meeting House located at 351 Dubois Road, Annapolis, Maryland 21401. Appropriate accommodations will be provided upon request.

Please visit our Changes to Fishing Regulations page and click on HOOKS, BAIT, STRIPED BASS for detailed information about the hearing and to submit comments.

Just another reason for them to "inspect" your boat, cooler, vehicle and line in the water. So glad I own waterfront property and don't need a license to fish from my own property.

This is why we elected Trump. Its getting close to the end when the state can tell you what type hook you have to use! One day we will all break free of the nanny state tyranny

Last night I was checking the nets and found some seriously big holes.Striped Bass are the only fish capable of busting through nets like that.According to my measurements 2 of the culprits weighed over 80 lbs.I never understood why they stop biting a hook when they get huge like that.For eating purposes I prefer Striped Bass that weigh 20 lbs or less,but some people eat the bigger ones.

Trump has nothing to do with MD fishing regulations. You can't even get a carry permit. Here is an idea, call the president, send him a DM on IG and email him about what hooks you can use. He'll get right on it. LMAO
