Reilly proposes weakening Eastern Shore veto over new Chesapeake Bay bridge

It was state Sen. Ed Reilly versus various Eastern Shore governments Wednesday as he defended legislation to weaken those governments’ veto power over a potential new bridge across the Chesapeake Bay.

Reilly argued in a committee hearing that the Eastern Shore counties shouldn’t have the authority to stop a new Chesapeake Bay Bridge just because they don’t like the location of it.

State law requires a state body to get consent from a majority of affected Eastern Shore counties when building a toll bridge or highway. This affects nine counties: Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester counties.

Senate Bill 34, sponsored only by Reilly, tweaks the state law to not allow the shore counties to overrule a bridge that spans the Chesapeake Bay.

I guess that Stuff Shirt ED Reilly is from a county on the Western Shore where people think they should be able to dictate to us EasternShore Hicks!

Such arrogance of authority and flagrant denial of taxpayers' wishes is another example of why this society has little if any confidence in politicians as this!

We are tax payers and should be able to veto this type of construction since it has a high impact on our environment on the Eastern Shore. This Western Shore nut case needs to understand the negative impact on the Eastern Shore. He appears to be just another incompetent / inconsiderate Democrat. What does the Eastern Shore Delegation say about this disaster that would take place. More exhaust fumes. Destruction of marsh that helps the drainage and filtering of water into the Chesapeake that this nut case and Democrats that want more tax dollars for Chesapeake cleanup. More extreme traffic congestion during the summer. Make the ones not a year round resident, 365 days a year, commute or have bus service that could bring 30 - 40 at a time. This would eliminate a lot of concerns about traffic etc. The Western Shore could care less about inconvenience they impose on others. They are selfish morons.
This is just a start.

Reilly’s job is to look out for his bosses (financiers) wishes to make money with the construction and operation of the proposed bridge.

I sure hope my tractors with equipment attached doesn't slow traffic down on my way from Vienna to Salisbury on
Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

They (WESTERN SHORE--West of the Bay Bridge) have always thought we only exist for their vacationing pleasure. They are the true meaning of MORONS. Hope you are offended if you read this.

5:51 Cause enough of a problem and they will prohibit farm equipment on State Highways during peak traffic hours.

Not to worry I have farm trucks that are really slow!

How is another bridge a bad idea? This could attract more business to the shore where there is nothing but gripes about no jobs. What are some of the concerns everyone has?

Just make Eastern shore residents exempt from all bridge fees for life.

Just building a bridge is the first step. There will have to be new or expanded highways to deal with the increased traffic.
The Eastern Shore is a cash cow for the state.

Bring back passenger trains.

You think because you pay taxes that you're entitled to a "veto"? Lol You better get a more concrete argument than that. Embarrassing comment. You pull that kind of talk in Annapolis, you will lose their entire attention with anything you say that follows that.

I think a major highway should be constructed through his front yard, without him being able to choose.

Where did they go? We always hear of them derailing and killing people.

The shore is struggling now to handle all the everyday traffic, much less increased tourist traffic. They can't even build and maintain a bypass of smallsbury without causing a wreck each week. Why do we have to accept a bridges' location shoved down our throat with little recourse? This land of pleasant living hasn't been for quite some time and is only getting worse each year.

Sucking every dime that they can from this area and bringing with it the "values" of western Md. Crime. Drugs. Undesirables.

We are often ridiculed for being backward hillbillies and they are enlightening us and showing us the big beautiful world outside of the shore. I think everyone was happier and safer being backward hillbillies than being educated on such sophistication from our wonderful neighbors from the west.
