More than 8,000 Flint residents at risk of losing homes to city over unpaid water bills

If thousands of residents of Flint, Mich., don’t pay their bills for water that still remains undrinkable without the use of a filter, they could be out on the streets.

More than 8,000 people received notices from the city informing them that they owe money if they wish to avoid having a lien placed on their homes, NBC 25 reports.

If they don’t fork up by May 19, their homes could get foreclosed on.

If a vendor sells a defective or dangerous product, the onus is on the vendor, not the unwitting consumer. It goes without saying that the consumers would not knowingly choose that defective or dangerous product.
Filters were/are provided to these consumers. Until the point that the vendor (local government) provided filtration systems to consumers and those filters were properly set up under government (vendor) supervision, the product was unusable and dangerous, and government should not expect to be reimbursed for the product. This particular government denied piping contaminated water to its users over the course of years, all the time knowing that it was doing so.

Everyone else who has a brain, has been saying you can lose your house over unpaid water bills, here is proof in other states it does happen, and what makes it worse here, is the govt allowed the water to be polluted or did it themselves, and since they are not piping it to residence and since residence don't want to drink contaminated water, they cans till be tossed out like a bag of trash for not paying a service they don't use or receive...

But everyone in SBY says you won't lose your home to sewer or water bills being unpaid, and that we need more people on public sewer and water systems to not pollute the bay and that you are a stain on the system for needing help as taxes and fees always continue to rise but never go down... They say you could never need help and any help you need makes you a loser and that you suck off the teet of the system, all the while they say it while they can afford it for the moment... But as usual, when they can't, and there will be a time they can't afford it, their homes too will be taken, and I hope if it does, they have 100% paid off their home mortgage and own the house outright and clear, then you will hear them bitching and complaining about how unfair it all is, but will forget all of the bad mouth crap they spew on this blog for the moment they can still afford their bills...

I wonder how many of those homeowners didn't actually use the water, but are being billed by the city for the "minimal use" fee, which is levied on everyone to whom the water is piped, whether or not there's use of it.
Salisbury does this. You'll get charged a minimum amount (around $40) per month for water and twice that for sewer, whether you take any water or not.
