Conservative Grover Norquist likened children growing up and learning the truth about Santa Claus to liberals following "the dangerous fiction" of the role of government and taxation, he tweeted Christmas morning.
The tweet referenced a quote attributed to Frédéric Bastiat, a French economist who is credited for developing the economic concept of opportunity cost.
"The state is that great fiction by which everyone tries to live at the expense of everyone else,” according to Bastiat.
Norquist is founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform, an organization that opposes tax increases to pay for government entitlement programs.
'Liberals' faith in government is as naive as a child's belief in Santa Claus,' Norquist tweeted three hours earlier Christmas morning.
