Salisbury Manufacturer Plans Expansion, 50 New Jobs

Company Anticipates More Than Tripling Workforce by 2019, Hiring Former Labinal Power Systems Employees

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
RDI Wire & Cable Solutions, Inc., a veteran-owned manufacturing company that provides products for the military, aerospace, automotive, and engineering industries, is expanding its presence in Wicomico County. With a current staff of 20 employees, the company plans to hire 50 new employees over the next three years, including workers who were displaced when the Labinal Power Systems’ plant in Salisbury closed last year. RDI anticipates investing a minimum of $375,000 on upgrades in its facility, including new machines, computers, and furniture to accommodate the increase in workers.

“Our goal is to expand manufacturing operations in Salisbury by attracting new customers and providing additional employment opportunities for workers in the wire and cable industry,” said David Bernstein, president of RDI Wire & Cable Solutions. “We’ve achieved our AS9100C and veteran-owned business certifications, which, when coupled with our skilled associates, will allow us to competitively compete in our market. We appreciate Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development, the City of Salisbury, Wicomico County, and the state of Maryland for assisting us with all aspects of our operation.”

RDI is a wire harness manufacturer that specializes in the military and aerospace industries. After transitioning from commercial wire and cable products in 2010, the company redirected its focus to high-end products for the military drone market. Today, the company’s wire products and cable assemblies are used in military aircraft and vehicles. RDI’s management team has more than 100 years of combined experience in wire harness and cable manufacturing.

“The expansion of RDI Wire & Cable Solutions on the Eastern Shore is an outstanding example of the progress and economic growth happening all over our state,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “We are particularly proud of Maryland’s highly-skilled workforce, and I commend RDI for their plans to triple their personnel in the coming years.”

“We are pleased to support RDI Wire & Cable Solutions, which is positioned for growth because of its highly-experienced management team and strategic focus on the rapidly growing military drone market,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “RDI Wire & Cable Solutions is among a number of manufacturers, including several on the Eastern Shore, which are continuing to grow and add jobs in Maryland.”

To support the expansion, the Maryland Department of Commerce has approved a $100,000 conditional loan through the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority and Fund (MEDAAF). Additionally, the Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development Corporation will provide a $10,000 conditional loan. The company is also eligible for a number of state and local tax credits.

“Wicomico County is pleased to assist RDI Wire and Cable Solutions in their expansion,” said Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver. “We anticipate strong growth and stand ready to support their growth well into the future.”

“RDI is showing confidence in the greatest workforce on the planet and in the fast-growing City of Salisbury. We thank them for their business and for providing jobs for our citizens,” said Salisbury Mayor Jacob Day.

Great start but Hogan needs to get to work eliminating the excessive taxes and environmental regulations hampering growth here. Also may have to deal with RAAD(retirees against any growth)if more people come here.
