OCEAN CITY — It will cost more to park at the Inlet lot and along most streets and municipal lots in the downtown area this summer after the Mayor and Council on Friday agreed to across-the-board hikes to offset the increased costs of maintaining the facilities.
During a final budget wrap session last Friday, Public Works Director Hal Adkins presented a variety of issues related to the Inlet lot and on-street and municipal parking lots metered with the familiar CALE machines. In terms of the Inlet lot, Adkins said the parking lot booths are subject to flooding during storm events and water and salt have taken their toll on the electric conduits and equipment. Adkins said he is fairly confident his department can get through this summer with the compromised equipment but not so confident in future summers. As a result, the Inlet lot parking booths and configuration will have to go through another major restoration sometime in the near future.

What a rip off....lived on the shore for nearly 20yrs.....left for florida....I get my beach pass for free...park anywere I want..2$ for everyone else....oc ripoff.....
They have to pay for the "White Elephant" Fine Arts Center some how!
how about a parking garage
How can OC not make enough on taxing virtually everything else without making it less friendly to people who want to park and pay for stuff?
I would fire the engineer that engineered the toll booths.
He didn't know that were going to be acceptable to weather?
And all the money that has already been collected, where did it go?
Well this article just made my decision for me. No Ocean City from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. Those parking fees are outrageous!! It is bad enough that everything to enjoy there cost so much already and then put this on top of it.
Actually naples fl has 2 garages...both free
How about lowering a line item on the budget?
Isn't it possible that the city is spending too much money?
By the time the city realizes it "over charged for parking" it will be too late. The customers will be gone, rarely to return.
I always hear from friends that it is much cheaper to vacation in Myrtle Beach.
Hope it back fires on them. Beaches are nicer down south. Free to park in most areas of NC, SC, GA, and Fl. You can keep your taxes and fees!
On my next vacation, I will take my money south! Bad enough I have to pay, Registration on three cars and a motorcycle, and a trailer, landfill fee, property taxes, piggy back taxes, flush tax/fee, franchise fee for cable I don't use, Gas tax, and state mandated insurance for my home, and vehicles.
Not to mention high sales taxes, and even higher taxes on alcohol and hotels!
Glad I can at least go to Delaware for some relief!
I guess the next thing will be a tax on the water that I draw from my well!!!!!
They can have OC anyway. Not family friendly. Panhandlers, prostitutes, drug dealers, and gangs! And they want you to pay more for this? No thanks! It's better in the south or up north around the Finger Lakes area. Better scenery and friendlier people!
The state doesn't mandate insurance on your home? If you have a mortgage company they do...if your home is paid for insurance is your choice! Auto is different.
OC will wake up and find the Golden Goose has laid its last egg. Our group has moved an event that draws quiet participants from several states from OC to West OC because of the fees OC now wants to charge.
And I've heard a lot from people who would bring their cars, trailers and dollars, leaving only the dollars behind. They are unhappy!
Econ 101, people.
Well OC, you have now painted yourself into a corner. Your taxes and fees coupled with the economic disaster that we really haven't recovered from yet has you in quite a pickle. People are staying away in droves bye bye tax money. Maybe if you hose the idiots still dumb enough to believe it's a family resort you can pull out of this? Have fun trying. Heck, Hooters couldn't even make it in your town haha.
Your payroll is atrocious, maybe you could look into that?
