Seaford Woman Arrested for Passing Bad Checks

Seaford, DE – Financial Crimes Detectives have arrested a Seaford woman after a series of checks she wrote came back with insufficient funds.

The incidents occurred over a seven month period of time starting in March of 2015 when Michele L. Somers, 34 of Seaford, began writing checks to various businesses in the Seaford and Laurel areas. When the checks were deposited, the businesses were informed of the insufficient funds in Somers’ account and provided her with a 10 day period to pay the balance of the funds which she failed to do. The balance of these payments totaled more than $3,800.00. In one incident in October 2015, Somers removed four checks from a family member, signed them, and attempted to make payments for rent, electric bills, and other items which totaled more than $3,200.00.

Michele Somers was arrested on November 13, 2015 and charged with nine counts of Issuing a Bad Check, four counts of Forgery 2nd, Attempted Theft over $1,500.00, and two counts of Theft under $1,500.00. She was arraigned at JP2 and committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $3,400.00 secured bond.
